1.Association between sunshine duration and hospitalization risk for mental and behavioral disorders in Zigong City, Sichuan Province

Background Sunshine duration is closely associated with population mental health and emotional states, although its relationship with mental and behavioral disorders (MBD) remains insufficiently studied. Objective To analyze the effect of sunshine duration on hospital admissions for MBD in Zigong City, Sichuan Province. Methods Hospital admission records for MBD from 10 medical institutions, meteorological data, and ambient air pollutant concentrations were collected in Zigong City from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2024. A distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) was employed to calculate single-day and cumulative lag effects of different sunshine duration exposures—0 h (P0, P5, P25), 6 h (P75), and 10.4 h (P95)—on hospitalization risks for MBD, stratified by diagnostic category, sex, and age groups. Cancer remains a leading cause of global mortality, necessitating the development of advanced therapeutic strategies with enhanced efficacy and reduced systemic toxicity. Among promising bioactive agents, lactoferrin (LF)—a multifunctional iron-binding glycoprotein abundantly found in mammalian milk and exocrine secretions—has garnered significant interest for its potent and multifaceted anti-cancer properties. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the current understanding of LF’s role in oncology, encompassing its structural biology, diverse mechanisms of action, and groundbreaking advancements in its application through nano-engineering. LF exerts anti-tumor effects through multiple pathways, including extracellular action, intracellular action, and immune regulation. It demonstrates a remarkable affinity for cancer cell membranes, binding to overexpressed anionic components such as glycosaminoglycans and sialic acids, as well as to specific receptors including the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-1 (LRP-1). This selective binding facilitates targeted uptake. Upon internalization, LF orchestrates a direct assault by inducing cell-cycle arrest in phases such as G0/G1 or S phase through the modulation of key regulators including cyclins, CDKs, and p53. Furthermore, it promotes programmed cell death via apoptotic pathways, involving caspase activation and downregulation of anti-apoptotic proteins such as survivin. A more recently elucidated mechanism is the induction of ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of cell death characterized by overwhelming lipid peroxidation. Beyond direct cytotoxicity, LF acts as a potent immunomodulator. It enhances natural killer (NK) cell activity, modulates T-lymphocyte populations, and crucially reprograms tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) from a pro-tumor M2 state to an anti-tumor M1 state, thereby reversing the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). The translation of LF’s potential has been significantly accelerated by nanotechnology. The inherent biocompatibility and natural tumor-targeting capabilities of LF make it an ideal platform for sophisticated drug-delivery systems. This review details various fabrication strategies for LF-based nanoparticles (NPs), including self-assembly, sol-in-oil emulsion, and electrostatic nanocomplexes, among others. Research demonstrates that nano-formulations not only protect LF from degradation but also enhance its bioactivity and anti-cancer potency. More importantly, LF NPs serve as versatile carriers for a wide array of therapeutic agents, including conventional chemotherapeutics, natural compounds, and imaging agents. These engineered systems enable synergistic therapy and facilitate site-specific delivery. Notably, the ability of LF to bind to receptors on the blood-brain barrier (BBB) has been leveraged to develop nano-systems for glioblastoma treatment. Other innovative designs utilize LF to modulate the TME—for instance, by alleviating tumor hypoxia to sensitize cells to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Despite compelling pre-clinical evidence, the clinical translation of LF and its nano-formulations remains nascent. While early-phase trials have established a favorable safety profile for recombinant human LF, larger Phase III studies have yielded mixed results, underscoring the complexity of its action in humans. Key challenges include enhancing drug targeting, optimizing loading efficiency, ensuring batch-to-batch reproducibility, and achieving deep tumor penetration. Future research must focus on the rational design of next-generation LF-NPs. This entails developing standardized manufacturing protocols, engineering “smart” stimuli-responsive systems for targeted drug release in the TME, and constructing multi-targeting platforms. A concerted interdisciplinary effort is paramount to bridge the gap between bench and bedside. In conclusion, LF, particularly in its nano-engineered forms, represents a highly promising and versatile agent in the oncological arsenal, holding immense potential for precise and effective cancer therapy.

4.Mechanism of Electroacupuncture Alleviating Inflammatory Pain in Rats by Regulating ErbB Subtypes in the Spinal Dorsal Horn

ObjectiveTo observe the changes in the levels of different subtypes of epidermal growth factor receptor (ErbB), namely ErbB1, ErbB2, ErbB3, and ErbB4, in the spinal dorsal horn of inflammatory pain model rats, and to explore their mechanism of mediating hyperalgesia as well as the intervention mechanism of electroacupuncture at "Zusanli (ST 36)" and "Kunlun (BL 60)". MethodsThe study was divided into five parts. In experiment 1, 14 Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into control and inflammatory pain group (7 rats each group) to observe the pain behavior and the protein expression of different ErbB receptor subtypes in the spinal dorsal horn. In experiment 2, 30 rats were randomly divided into control group 1, inflammatory pain group 1, and low-, medium-, and high-concentration TX1-85-1 groups, with 6 rats in each group, to observe the effect of inhibiting spinal ErbB3 on inflammatory pain. In experiment 3, 12 rats were randomly divided into control virus group and ErbB3 knockdown virus group, with 6 rats in each group, to observe the effect of knocking down ErbB3 in the spinal dorsal horn on inflammatory pain. In experiment 4, 44 rats were randomly divided into control group 2, inflammatory pain group 2, electroacupuncture group, and sham electroacupuncture group, with 11 rats in each group, to observe the effect of electroacupuncture. In experiment 5, 40 rats were randomly divided into control group 3, inflammatory pain group 3, electroacupuncture group 1, and electroacupuncture + NRG1 group, with 10 rats in each group, to observe the effect of activating ErbB3 on electroacupuncture. A rat model of inflammatory pain was established by subcutaneous injection of 100 μl of complete Freund's adjuvant into the sole of the unilateral hind foot of SD rats. Rats in the low-, medium-, and high-concentration TX1-85-1 groups were intrathecally injected with ErbB3 inhibitor TX1-85-1 on day 5 to day 7 after modeling. Rats in the ErbB3 knockdown virus group were injected with ErbB3 knockdown virus packaged with adenovirus vector-based short hairpin RNA (shRNA) into the spinal dorsal horn in situ 3 weeks before modeling. Rats in each electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture at bilateral "Zusanli (ST 36)" and "Kunlun (BL 60)" from day 1 to day 7 after modeling, with dense-sparse waves at a frequency of 2 Hz/100 Hz and a current of 0.5-1.5 mA for 30 minutes once a day. Rats in the electroacupuncture + NRG1 group were intrathecally injected with ErbB3 ligand recombinant human neuregulin-1 (NRG1) after electroacupuncture intervention from day 5 to day 7 after modeling. The mechanical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency of rats were measured on day 1, 3, 5, and 7 after modeling to evaluate behavior, and Western Blot was used to detect the protein and phosphorylation levels of each ErbB subtype in the spinal dorsal horn. ResultsCompared with the control group, rats in the inflammatory pain group showed decreased mechanical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency of rats, and increased expression of phosphorylated ErbB3 (p-ErbB3) protein in the spinal dorsal horn on days 1, 3, 5, and 7 after modeling (P<0.01). On day 5 and day 7 after modeling, compared with the inflammatory pain group 1, the mecha-nical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency of rats in the medium- and high-concentration TX1-85-1 groups increased, and the expression of p-ErbB3 protein decreased (P<0.05). On day 1, 3, 5, and 7 after modeling, compared with the control virus group, the mechanical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency of rats in the ErbB3 knockdown virus group increased (P<0.05). On day 5 and day 7 after modeling, compared with the inflammatory pain group 2 and the sham electroacupuncture group, the mechanical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency of rats in the electroacupuncture group increased, and the expression of p-ErbB3 protein decreased (P<0.05). On day 5 and day 7 after modeling, compared with the electroacupuncture + NRG1 group, the mechanical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency of rats in the electroacupuncture group 1 increased (P<0.05). ConclusionThe p-ErbB3 in the spinal dorsal horn involved in hyperalgesia in rats with inflammatory pain, and electroacupuncture at "Zusanli (ST 36)" and "Kunlun (BL 60)" can alleviate inflammatory pain by inhibiting the expression of p-ErbB3 protein in the spinal dorsal horn of rats.
5.Analyses of T lymphocyte subset levels and viral loads in human immunodeficiency virus antibody-confirmed positive cases in Suzhou from 2021 to 2024

ObjectiveTo investigate the T lymphocyte subset levels and viral loads in newly human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibody-confirmed positive cases in Suzhou (2021‒2024), and to analyze potential influencing factors by integrating their demographic characteristics, immune status, and viral replication patterns, thereby providing evidence for HIV/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) prevention and control. MethodsPeripheral whole blood samples were collected from newly confirmed HIV-positive cases in Suzhou from 2021 to 2024. T lymphocyte subset analysis and viral load testing were performed, and influencing factors were identified in combination with demographic characteristics. Logistic regression models were employed to identify factors associated with CD4+T lymphocyte counts ≤350 cells·μL-1, and Spearman’s rank correlation test was used to analyze the correlation between logarithmic value of viral load and CD4+/CD8+ ratio. ResultsAmong the 3 022 confirmed HIV-positive samples, the median CD4+T lymphocyte count was 298.00 cells·μL-1, with 882 cases (29.19%) showing CD4+ T lymphocyte counts <200 cells·μL-1. The median CD8+T lymphocyte count was 1 011.00 cells·μL-1. The median CD4+/CD8+ ratio was 0.28, with 32.46% of cases exhibiting CD4+/CD8+ ratios <0.20, and there were statistically significant differences in CD4+/CD8+ ratio among different genders, age groups, marital status, and sample sources (all P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analyses indicated that individuals aged ≥20 years, those who were divorced or widowed, and cases identified through medical institutions had a significantly higher proportion of CD4+T lymphocyte counts ≤350 cells·µL⁻¹ compared to those aged <20 years, unmarried individuals, and cases sourced from voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) clinics, respectively. The mean logarithmic value of viral load was (4.29±1.15) copies·mL-1. The logarithmic value of viral load demonstrated a significantly negative correlation with both CD4+/CD8+ ratio (r=-0.43, P<0.001) and CD4+T lymphocyte count (r=-0.37, P<0.001). ConclusionA substantial proportion of newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS cases in Suzhou are late presenters with high viral load levels. Targeted interventions should prioritize high-risk populations through enhanced active surveillance and the implementation of combined T lymphocyte subsets analysis and viral load testing, which can enable earlier case-finding and timely antiretroviral therapy initiation.
6.Analyses of the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 21 confirmed monkeypox cases in a district of Chengdu City

ObjectiveTo analyze the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of the 21 confirmed monkeypox cases in a district of Chengdu City, and to provide scientific guidance for the prevention and control of subsequent monkeypox epidemics. MethodsData of confirmed monkeypox cases residing in this district were collected from the Disease Control and Prevention Information System of China. A retrospective descriptive epidemiological analysis was used to analyze the demographic, distributional and behavioral characteristics of the cases. ResultsThe first confirmed case of monkeypox was reported on July 5, 2023. Up to April 30, 2025, a total of 21 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported. All cases were male, with a mean age of (30.9±6.2) years. The highest proportion of cases(47.62%) was in the 30‒40 years age group. The majority were men who have sex with men (MSM) population (90.48%, 19/21). The results showed that 19.05% of cases were co-infected with HIV, and 19.05% had a history of syphilis infection. Within 21 days prior to symptom onset, 19 cases (90.48%) self-reported engaging in male-to-male sexual contact, among whom 10 cases (52.63%) reported having taken protective measures, while 9 cases (47.37%) did not take safety precautions. Thirteen cases (61.90%) had no travel history to areas with reported monkeypox cases during the 21 days before symptom onset. The predominant manifestation was exanthem (100%, 21/21), followed by fever (57.14%, 12/21) and lymphadenectasis (47.62%, 10/21). Among febrile cases, 50.00% (6/12) had low-grade fever (37.3‒38.0 ℃). All cases were identified through active medical consultation. The median interval from symptom onset to the first medical visit was 3 (2, 6) days, with a maximum interval of 14 days. The median interval from symptom onset to laboratory confirmation was 7 (5, 9) days. Six cases (28.57%) had two or more visits to the hospital, with bacterial infection being the primary initial diagnosis. ConclusionMonkeypox prevention and control efforts in a district of Chengdu City should prioritize MSM population and young and middle-aged adults aged 30 to <40 years. It is recommended to establish an integrated monkeypox epidemic prevention and control network by leveraging existing HIV/AIDS prevention and control network. Concurrently, accelerating the deployment of the national intelligent infectious disease monitoring and early warning front-end software will strengthen early detection capabilities and be beneficial for the overall effectiveness of epidemic prevention and control efforts.
7.Analysis of monitoring results of iodine nutrition levels in different populations in Daxing District, Beijing from 2020 to 2023

Objective:To investigate the iodine nutrition level of different populations in Daxing District of Beijing, and to provide a basis for implementation of "tailored measures, classified guidance, and scientific iodine supplementation" for prevention and control of iodine deficiency disorders.Methods:From 2020 to 2023, Daxing District of Beijing was divided into 5 districts from April to September each year based on east, west, south, north, and center. One township (street) was selected from each district, and 20 pregnant women, 40 women of childbearing age, 40 adult males, and 40 non boarding children aged 8 to 10 from one primary school were selected from each township (street). At the same time, 100 pregnant women with current addresses in Daxing District, Beijing were selected from one obstetrics hospital in Daxing District every year. Once random urine sample was collected from all survey subjects, and the household edible salt samples were collected from children and 400 pregnant women for determination of urinary iodine and salt iodine levels.Results:From 2020 to 2023, a total of 3 022 urine samples were collected, including 920, 700, 702, and 700 samples from children aged 8 - 10, pregnant women, women of childbearing age, and adult males, respectively. The median urinary iodine levels were 181.1, 135.0, 144.0, and 140.0 μg/L, respectively. There were statistically significant differences in urinary iodine levels among children aged 8 - 10, pregnant women, and women of childbearing age in different years ( H = 77.88, 9.40, 22.11, P < 0.05). A total of 1 320 household edible salt samples were collected from children aged 8 - 10 and pregnant women. Among them, 920 salt samples were collected from children, the median salt iodine was 21.3 mg/kg, the iodized salt coverage rate was 88.48% (814/920), and the qualified iodized salt consumption rate was 80.76% (743/920). Four hundred salt samples were collected from pregnant women, the median salt iodine was 21.8 mg/kg, the coverage rate of iodized salt was 90.25% (361/400), and the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 77.50% (310/400). The results of correlation analysis showed there was no correlation between urinary iodine level of children aged 8 to 10 and pregnant women with their salt iodine level ( r = 0.06, 0.07, P = 0.055, 0.142). Conclusions:Pregnant women in Daxing District, Beijing are at a deficiency level in iodine nutrition, with children aged 8 - 10, women of childbearing age, and adult males all at an appropriate level of iodine nutrition. We should strengthen health education for pregnant women and ensure that they receive sufficient iodine nutrition. At the same time, relevant departments should increase the supervision and management of iodized salt.
8.Effects of different feeding patterns on growth performance,blood physiological and biochemical indices and intestinal flora of beef calves

The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of different feeding modes on growth performance,blood biochemical indexes and intestinal flora of lactating Holstein male calves.Twenty-four newborn Holstein male calves with body mass of(40.00±1.01)kg and similar day old were selected and randomly divided into four groups of six calves each.The subgroups were low-milk group(LM),high-milk group(HM),high-milk milk replacer feeding group(HMR),and low-milk switching to high-milk milk replacer feeding group(CMR).The results showed that:At 45 d,the body mass of calves in the HM group was significantly higher than that of calves in the other groups(P<0.05),and at 60 d,the body mass of calves in the HM group was significantly higher than that of calves in the LM &.CMR groups(P<0.05).At 90 d,the body mass of calves in the LM group was significantly higher than that of calves in the HM group.Throughout the ex-perimental period,the average daily weight gain and average pellet feed intake of calves in the LM group were significantly higher than that of calves in the HM group(P<0.05).The calf globulin level in the HMR group was significantly higher than that in the LM and HM groups(P<0.05);the plasma immunoglobulin A level of calves in the HM group was significantly lower than that of calves in the LM and HMR groups(P<0.05);and the plasma immunoglobulin M level of calves in the HM group was significantly higher than that of calves in the LM and CMR groups(P<0.05),and HMR group was also significantly higher than that of LM group(P<0.05);plasma glutathione peroxidase level of calves in HMR group was significantly higher than that of LM group(P<0.05);plasma malondialdehyde level of calves in LM group was significantly higher than that of calves in HMR and HM groups(P<0.05),and CMR group was also significantly higher than that of HM group(P<0.05).Relative abundance of Thermodesulfovibrio was higher in the HM group(P<0.05),relative abundance of Bacteroidetes in the LM group was significantly higher than that in the HMR and HM groups(P<0.05),relative abundance of Blautia in the HM group(P<0.05),and relative abundance of Corynebacterium in the CMR group was significantly higher than that in the LM and HM groups(P<0.05).In summary,calves in the LM group had better weaning weights and pellet feed intake;calves in the CMR group could compensate for growth by supplemental feeding of milk replacer to obtain more optimal weaning weights and pel-let feed intake;the HMR group proved that milk-free feeding could ensure stable growth of calves;and calves in the HM group had a better pre-lactation growth performance,lower levels of oxida-tive stress,and a healthier fecal flora.
9.Qualitative study on coping experience of abdominal distension in elderly patients with chronic heart failure and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective:To analyze the real experience of elderly patients with chronic heart failure and type 2 diabetes in dealing with abdominal distension, and to provide a basis for medical staff to formulate targeted intervention strategies.Methods:Using the purpose sampling method, semi-structured interview was conducted on elderly patients with chronic heart failure and type 2 diabetes who were admitted to Ruikang Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine from April 2024 to June 2024. Extract themes used Colaizzi 7-step analysis method.Results:There were 6 males and 8 femdes, aged 60-80 years old. A total of 4 themes and 10 sub-themes were extracted, namely somatic symptom distress (obvious related symptom clusters, aggravation of basic disease symptoms), emotional response differentiation (weakening of emotional control, positive psychological derivation), diversified coping strategies (negative coping included self-neglect and avoidance of medical treatment, positive coping included active medical treatment and self-adjustment), coping difficulties (lack of disease knowledge, contradiction of coping strategies, urgent need for optimization of TCM diagnosis and treatment, imperfect external support system).Conclusions:Medical staff should pay attention to the physical and mental feelings of elderly patients with chronic heart failure and type 2 diabetes in the process of abdominal distension coping, and provide targeted health guidance and comprehensive nursing, so as to reduce the physical symptoms of patients and promote their physical and mental health.

Elemene is widely recognized as an effective anti-cancer compound and is routinely administered in Chinese clinical settings for the management of several solid tumors,including non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).However,its detailed molecular mechanism has not been adequately demonstrated.In this research,it was demonstrated that elemene effectively curtailed NSCLC growth in the patient-derived xenograft(PDX)model.Mechanistically,employing high-throughput screening techniques and subsequent biochemical validations such as microscale thermophoresis(MST),microRNA-145-5p(miR-145-5p)was pinpointed as a critical target through which elemene exerts its anti-tumor effects.Inter-estingly,elemene serves as a binding stabilizer for miR-145-5p,demonstrating a strong binding affinity(dissociation constant(KD)=0.39±0.17 μg/mL)and preventing its degradation both in vitro and in vivo,while not interfering with the synthesis of the primary microRNA transcripts(pri-miRNAs)and precursor miRNAs(pre-miRNAs).The stabilization of miR-145-5p by elemene resulted in an increased level of this miRNA,subsequently suppressing NSCLC progression through the miR-145-5p/mitogen-activated pro-tein kinase kinase kinase 3(MAP3K3)/nuclear factor kappaB(NF-κB)pathway.Our findings provide a new perspective on revealing the interaction patterns between clinical anti-tumor drugs and miRNAs.
