The growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has coincided with more timely manuscript submissions and improved efficiency in scientific writing. While AI tools help authors produce clear and well-structured work, excessive or undisclosed reliance raises concerns about originality, authenticity, and the integrity of scholarly publications. Editors increasingly recognize AI-assisted writing and face the challenge of preserving rigorous standards. Emerging guidelines emphasize transparency in AI use, alongside the need to retain individual voice and diversity in scientific expression. This editorial highlights the balance between leveraging AI’s benefits and safeguarding ethical publication practices, while acknowledging contributors to the current issue.

BACKGROUND

Internationalization in medical education aims to align programs with global standards, foster intercultural competence, and expand academic collaboration. In private medical schools in Northern Luzon, clarifying how internationalization is conceptualized and enacted can enhance the medical curriculum.

To explore how private medical schools in Northern Luzon conceptualize and implement internationalization, identify associated challenges, and propose curriculum inputs to enhance delivery of the medical curriculum.

The qualitative study utilized a multiple case study design. The study was approved by the Saint Louis University Research Ethics Committee. Using purposive sampling, 45 participants from private institutions in Northern Luzon Philippines consented to engage in focus group discussions and in-depth interviews from February to April 2025. Data were analyzed through inductive content and thematic techniques.

Participants conceptualized internationalization as (1) alignment with international quality and practice standards; (2) global engagement and exchange encompassing knowledge, skills, culture, institutional networking, and collaboration; (3) inclusivity and multicultural responsiveness; and (4) pursuit of global recognition and accreditation. Implementation occurred via “internationalization at home” (embedding global perspectives in local learning environments), “internationalization abroad” (student/faculty mobility and external exposure), and alignment of philosophical and curricular frameworks. Reported challenges included institutional and curricular constraints, language and cultural barriers, sociocultural and financial limitations, and external/contextual pressures.

Addressing the identified barriers and scaling the documented practices can enhance the delivery of the medical curriculum. The study offers actionable curricular revisions that private institutions may adopt to strengthen internationalization in medical education.

To enhance medication safety and rational use, a multidisciplinary expert panel from the Yangtze River Delta region-comprising specialists in pharmacy, clinical medicine, healthcare administration, and evidence-based medicine-was convened to develop this consensus through multiple rounds of Delphi consultation. A management system for the off-label use of novel antineoplastic agents was established, incorporating a tiered management process and a regional information sharing platform. Standardized procedures were implemented to regulate the applications, review, documentation, and dynamic adjustment of off-label use. The regional platform centralizes the collection and evaluation of evidence for off-label usage, facilitating consistent and homogeneous manage-ment across healthcare institutions. The tiered management process and information sharing platform established herein are intended to serve as a practical reference for standardizing the management of off-label use of novel antineoplastic agents in medical institutions.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have recently been shown to affect human health at low levels in the blood, according to epidemiological evidence. Consequently, human exposure to these chemicals should be strictly controlled to prevent health risks. This review reports on the potential sources of PFAS using Japan as an example. Tap water has attracted attention as a source of exposure to PFAS. PFAS have also been detected in the air, in household dust, and in consumer products. Furthermore, in the general population, diet is the most common source of exposure, and there is particular concern about human exposure to PFAS accumulated in seafood. Continuous monitoring is important for appropriate management of exposure for both humans and the environment.

BACKGROUND: The protective effectiveness of an N95 respirator depends on the filtration efficiency of the material from which the N95 respirator is made of, as well as the wearers' facial fit. The facial fit of an N95 respirator mainly depends on the degree of matching between the wearers' facial dimension characteristics and the N95 respirator. Quantitative fit testing objectively evaluates the fit of N95 respirators; however, it is not easy to promote because of the limitations of testing conditions. The aim of this study is to establish a fit prediction model of N95 respirator based on facial images. METHODS: Facial images and fit factor (FF) value of 5 N95 respirators were gathered from 299 medical staffs in 10 hospitals in Beijing. Face geometry measurement was based on 3D face modelling, and the American TSI-8038 Porta Count Pro+ was used to conduct quantitative fit test. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to identify facial dimensional features that significantly influenced the fit of N95 respirators. Through matching training of facial image and FF values, a fit prediction model has been established, enabling rapid recommendation of N95 respirators meeting the fit standard via facial image recognition. RESULTS: A fit prediction model for N95 respirators based on facial images has been developed, which enables the rapid recommendation of N95 respirators with acceptable FF value for healthcare personnel. The model demonstrated an accuracy of 55.93%, a precision of 98.43%, a recall of 51.65%, and an F1 score of 0.68. CONCLUSIONS It is feasible to utilize computer-based facial recognition technology to rapidly recommend N95 respirators for medical personnel. Given the high level of accuracy achieved, the model demonstrates significant potential for practical application.

OBJECTIVE: To lay a foundation for formulating clinical evaluation and regulatory policies regarding radiotherapy equipment in China. METHODS: Comprehensive retrieval and comparison of the regulatory requirements for radiotherapy equipment from regulatory agencies in the United States, the European Union, and China are conducted, and their similarities and differences are analyzed. RESULTS: For mature radiotherapy systems in the European and American regions, the comparison of performance parameters serves as an important basis for determining whether a product can be marketed. Both the European Union and China regard the clinical evaluation report as a crucial part of the medical device review and submission process. CONCLUSION Identifying clear state of the art standards, performance parameters, and clinical indicator parameters, and establishing relevant technical guidelines are important directions for promoting the standardized development of radiotherapy equipment supervision.

The objective of inspection, testing and supervision of medical devices is to ensure the effectiveness and safety of medical devices in use. Leachables are substances that are leached from medical devices or materials during their clinical use. Leachables are important factors for the safety risks of medical devices. The analysis, detection, and safety evaluation of leachables are important parts of the safety evaluation of medical devices. The allowable limits for leachable substances which are established on the toxicological research provide a scientific basis for the judgment of qualitative and quantitative analysis results. Obtaining more detailed, rigorous and sufficient toxicological research data is of great significance to set highly enforceable product technical indicators. For the establishment of allowable limits for leachable substances, its role in the safety evaluation of medical devices is summarized, and the relevant standards and their implementation status in the testing of medical devices are introduced.

On March 19, 2021, the National Medical Products Administration(NMPA) issued the Regulations on the Supervision and Administration of Medical Devices (Order No. 739 of the State Council of the People's Republic of China), which clearly stipulated in Article 53 the basic definition and scope of use of in vitro diagnostic reagents developed by medical institutions. It also pointed out that the relevant administrative measures shall be formulated by the Drug Regulatory Department of the State Council in conjunction with the Health Department of the State Council. This initiative marks the re-incorporation of in vitro diagnostic reagents developed by medical institutions into China's regulatory system. This study reviewed the development of regulatory policies for self-developed in vitro diagnostic reagents at home and abroad, combined with the Key Points of On-site Verification of Self-developed In Vitro Diagnostic Reagents in Shanghai Medical Institutions issued by the Shanghai Municipal Drug Administration, in conjunction with the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, and the specific verification work of pre-record evaluation, and sorted out the general requirements for the quality management system of self-developed in vitro diagnostic reagents. The purpose is to provide some references for the further development of this pilot work and its nationwide promotion.

In this study, the pre-market regulatory requirements for typical Class Ⅱ wound dressings, as well as the status of testing and post-market adverse events monitoring, were reviewed from the perspective of the whole lifecycle of medical devices. Additionally, the regulatory requirements for wound dressings in China, the United States, and the European Union were compared. Supplementary research was also conducted on Class Ⅰ and Ⅱ liquid and paste dressing products. Furthermore, this study analyzed the issues in the registration and application of typical Class Ⅱ wound dressings and provided regulatory recommendations, aiming to offer technical references for the review and approval, inspection and testing, and post-market supervision of wound dressing products.
