1.Comparative analysis of the characteristics of imported malaria cases in Nanning City in 2024 and the same period of the previous year

Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of malaria and provide a basis for developing improved prevention and control measures. Methods Data were obtained from the Chinese Disease Prevention and Control Information System. Malaria surveillance data for Nanning City from January 1,2023, to December 31,2024, were exported from the Infectious Disease Reporting Information Management Subsystem. The characteristics of the two groups of malaria cases were compared. Results A total of 103 imported malaria cases were reported in Nanning City in 2024, representing a 38.32% decrease compared with the same period of the previous year. No statistically significant difference were observed between cases reported in 2023 and 2024 in terms of average age, gender ratio, proportion of parasite species, and monthly reporting distribution;however, statistically significant differences were found in the proportion of reporting areas and current residence areas(χ2= 13.572 and 10.355, respectively; P = 0.001 and 0.035, respectively). The proportion of cases reported in Shanglin County and the proportion of cases residing in Shanglin County were both lower than those during the same period of the previous year. Conclusions The high aggregation of imported malaria cases in Nanning City has decreased. Medical institutions in areas other than Shanglin County should strengthen their vigilance against malaria.
2.Effects of short-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase on hypertensive vascular remodeling

AIM:To investigate the changes of short-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase(SCAD)in hypertensive vascular remodeling and to explore the relationship between SCAD and vascular remodeling in hypertension.METHODS:The spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHR;24 weeks old)and Wistar rats(24 weeks old)were used as experimental con-trol groups.The SHR and Wistar rats of 16 weeks old were trained by swimming as experimental groups.The systolic pres-sure was measured periodically.The thickness of vascular wall and the diameter of the vascular lumen were measured.The contents of ROS and ATP,the enzyme activity of SCAD, and the expression of SCAD at mRNA and protein levels in the aorta were determined.The free fatty acid in the serum and aorta was also measured.RESULTS:Compared with Wistar group,the diameter of vascular lumen decreased in SHR group.The thickness of vascular wall,the ratio of vascular wall and the diameter of vascular lumen,and the blood pressure in SHR group were increased significantly(P<0.05).Com-pared with SHR group,the diameter of vascular lumen increased in SHR +swim group.The thickness of vascular wall,the ratio of vascular wall and the diameter of vascular lumen,and the blood pressure in SHR +swim group were decreased sig-nificantly.Compared with control group, the expression of SCAD at mRNA and protein levels, the enzyme activity of SCAD,and the content of ATP were decreased in SHR group.However,the free fatty acid in the serum and aorta,and the content of ROS in the aorta were increased in SHR group.The expression of SCAD at mRNA and protein levels,the en-zyme activity of SCAD,the content of ATP were increased in Wistar +swim group and SHR +swim group.However, the free fatty acid in serum and aorta,and the content of ROS in the aorta were decreased in Wistar +swim group and SHR+swim group.CONCLUSION: Decrease in SCAD expression may be associated with hypertensive vascular remodeling. Swimming training can reverse hypertensive vascular remodeling by increasing the expression of SCAD in the aorta.
3.X-chromosome inactivation patterns of different tumor nodules in multiple leiomyomas of uterus.

OBJECTIVETo describe the relationship among different tumor nodules in multiple leiomyomas of uterus.
METHODSGenomic DNA was extracted from fresh tissue samples, digested through incubation with methylation-sensitive Hha I or Hpa II, and amplified via PCR for androgen receptor (AR) and phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK) genes. The length polymorphism on AR gene was demonstrated by denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and silver staining, the PGK gene products were treated with Bst XI and resolved on agarose gels.
RESULTS112 cases of leiomyomas and one case of leiomyosarcoma were examined, 89% showing the length polymorphism for AR gene and 30% carrying the polymorphic Bst XI site at PGK locus. Loss of X-chromosome inactivation mosaicism was observed in all the 321 tumor nodules examined from 77 cases, reflecting their clonal cellular composition. The relationship between different nodules was evaluated by their X-chromosome inactivation patterns in the 295 tumor nodules taken from 57 multiple leiomyomas. Similar inactivated alleles were found in all nodules in 30, in most nodules in 7 cases, similar to a multi-nodular leiomyosarcoma, while 20 cases showed near-random distribution of the inactivated alleles in different nodules, indicating their multicentric origins. No relevance was found between this difference and any histopathological parameters including number of mitotic figures and occurrence of bizarre nuclei and degeneration. In addition, an identical mutation and loss of heterozygosity were found at the AR locus in two apparently discrete tumor nodules in one case, providing further evidence for the unicellular origin of these lesions.
CONCLUSIONSThe multi-nodular leiomyomas may be classified into multicentric, unicentric types, as well as a mixed type. It remains to be clarified whether different nodules in the unicentric cases originate from a parent tumor by migration or by spreading.
