Objective To investigate the relationship between the body mass index (BMI)/body mass index improved (BMIIMPd) and the dose of the small intestine as well as the acute radiation colitis in the intensity-modulated radiation therapy after cervical cancer surgery. Methods Thirty-nine cervical cancer patients underwent postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy. All patients received Philips large bore CT scan for enhanced CT scan, target delineation and organ at risk. All patients were treated with a single arc 10 MV VMAT plan. The correlation between the radiation dose of the small intestine and the acute radiation enteritis and BMI/BMIIMPd was analyzed. Results The BMI was calculated as (22.23±2.80) kg/m2,BMIIMPd was (21.49±3.95) kg/m2,the small intestine volume VSI was (1 155.71 ± 419.33)cc3.The volume of the small intestine received more than 10 Gy (V10_SI) VMAT was (66.50± 27.01) %,and the equivalent uniform dose (EUD) and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) were (4 098.87± 184.93) cGy and (7.98±8.73)%.One way ANOVA demonstrated that under the VMAT technology, the BMIIMPd,V30,V40,EUD (or=50) and NTCP in the small intestine were the influencing factors of the occurrence of acute radiation enteritis. Conclusions If the improved BMIIMPd is utilized to distinguish the BMI,the high dose area of the small intestine will be larger and the incidence of acute radiation enteritis will be higher for patients with BMIIMPd between 10.1 and 16.9(normal and thin).Conventional BMI cannot be utilized as a basis for the prediction of the incidence of acute radiation enteritis in patients with cervical carcinoma.

PURPOSE: C-end rule (CendR) peptides are found to enhance the penetration of chemotherapeutic agents into tumor cells, while GX1 is a peptide that homes to gastric cancer (GC) vasculature. This study aimed to synthesize a novel peptide GX1-RPAKPAR (GXC) and to explore the effect of GXC on sensitizing GC cells to chemotherapeutic agents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Intracellular Adriamycin concentration analysis was applied to conform whether GXC peptide increases the penetration of chemotherapeutic agents into GC cells in vitro. The effect of GXC peptide on sensitizing GC cells to chemotherapeutics was validated by apoptosis assay and in vitro/vivo drug sensitivity assay. The specificity of GXC to GC tissue was validated by ex vivo fluorescence imaging. RESULTS: In vitro, administration of GXC significantly increased Adriamycin concentrations inside SGC-7901 cells, and enhanced the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents by decreasing the IC50 value. In vivo, FITC-GXC specifically accumulated in GC tissue. Moreover, systemic co-injection with GXC peptide and Adriamycin statistically improved the therapeutic efficacy in SGC-7901 xenograft models, surprisingly, without obviously increasing side effects. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that co-administration of the novel peptide GXC with chemotherapeutic agents may be a potential way to enhance the efficacy of anticancer drugs in GC treatment.

Objective: To establish the rational drug use standard for elderly hypertensive patients after comprehensive assessment, so as to provide evidence for rational drug use in clinics. Methods: Such standards as Beers, STOPP and START were summarized, key items were extracted, duplicate contents were deleted, and the initial standard was formed and used as the first round questionnaire. The Delphi method was used to conduct the second round expert consultation questionnaire, and the positive coefficients, authority and coordination degree of the experts were evaluated. Results: A total of 10 experts participated in the consultation, and the effective re-covery rate of the second round was 100% and the average authority coefficient was 0. 88. The coordination coefficient of the two rounds was 0. 57 and 0. 76, respectively. The standard of rational drug use for the elderly patients with hypertension after comprehensive as-sessment was finally completed. The standard contained 13 comprehensive assessment contents and 21 drug warning entries. Conclu-sion: After 2 rounds of expert consultation, the opinions tend to be uniform with high degree of coordination. The standard can provide reference for clinicians and clinical pharmacists to use drugs rationally. At the same time,it also provides ideas for the establishment of rational drug use standards for other diseases.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To explore the lung-protective effect of levosimendan (LS) during cardiopulmonary bypass in a canine model by determining the wet/dry weight (W/D) ratio of lung tissue, malonaldehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) concentrations, and performing a histological evaluation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-two canines were divided randomly into four groups and underwent a routine aortic cross-clamping cardiopulmonary bypass procedure for 1 h, followed by recovery for 2 h. Animals were handled as follows: group C (means control group), no special treatment after aortic cross clamping; group P (means pulmonary artery perfusion group), pulmonary artery perfusion with cold oxygenated blood after aortic cross clamping; group LSIV (means intravenous injection of LS group), intravenous injection of LS (65 µg/kg) before thoracotomy, and the rest of the procedure was identical to the control group; group LPS (means pulmonary perfusion with LS group), pulmonary perfusion with cold oxygenated blood combined with LS (65 µg/kg) after aortic cross clamping. Lung tissues were removed and subjected to evaluation of pathological alterations, W/D ratio and MDA and SOD concentrations. RESULTS: In group C, the W/D ratio and MDA concentration were higher, while the SOD concentrations were lower (p<0.05). Compared with groups P and LSIV, the MDA concentration was lower in group LPS, while that of SOD was higher (p<0.05); Light and electron microscopy indicated that LS intervention reduced impairment of lung tissues. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that LS plays an important role in protecting lung tissues.
