Background:
Basketball involves repeated high-intensity, explosive movements that depend largely on anaerobic energy systems. Accordingly, anaerobic capacity and body-composition parameters such as skeletal muscle mass and fat distribution are key determinants of performance. However, data-driven studies integrating conditioning training, anaerobic performance, and body composition in Mongolian professional players are limited, and the application of machine-learning approaches in this context remains underexplored.
Aim:
To examine the relationships between conditioning training, anaerobic capacity, and body composition in professional basketball players and to develop a machine-learning model for injury-risk prediction.
Materials and Methods:
Eleven healthy professional male basketball players (21–28 years) from the Omni Erdenet Miners were evaluated. Body composition was measured using the InBody 970, and anaerobic performance was assessed by a 30-s Wingate test on a Monark 894E ergometer. Measurements were obtained at three time points. Changes were analyzed using Friedman and Wilcoxon tests, while associations were examined by Pearson correlation and multivariate regression. Injury-risk models were developed using Random Forest and regression-based machine-learning methods. Research Ethics Committee, approval number 24-25/04-01
Result:
Phase angle increased from 6.8±0.5 to 7.3±0.6° (p =0.021), and body-fat percentage decreased from 20.5±3.2% to 16.2±2.0% (p =0.015), with no change in skeletal muscle mass. Visceral fat decreased and anaerobic peak and mean power improved (p <0.05). Fat percentage was negatively correlated with anaerobic performance. Heart-rate recovery improved, indicating enhanced exercise tolerance. Random Forest identified phase angle, visceral fat, fat percentage, and fatigue index as the strongest predictors of injury risk.
Conclusion
1. The body composition of professional basketball players was closely associated with anaerobic performance and recovery indices, with higher body fat percentage and central adiposity tending to be linked to reduced anaerobic capacity.
2. Reducing fat mass while preserving muscle mass did not adversely affect anaerobic performance and demonstrated potential improvements in performance efficiency, load tolerance, and recovery regulation.
3. A Random Forest Regression model based on body composition and anaerobic capacity indicators demonstrated a high level of accuracy in predicting performance decline and injury risk.

Mongolian Journal of Health Sciences 2026;93(3):85-90
Background:
Growing bacterial resistance remains a critical global health threat, underscoring the need for precision antibiotic delivery. Our research addresses this by developing CFT@MNZ-HDTMA for ceftriaxone (CFT) antibiotic. By utilizing a natural zeolite framework, this system optimizes the delivery and release kinetics of CFT, aiming to maximize clinical outcomes while minimizing adverse effects.
Aim:
The primary aim is to characterize the physicochemical properties of the CFT@MNZ-HDTMA system and elucidate its CFT release mechanisms through kinetic analysis. The study utilizes XRD and FTIR spectroscopy to determine the composite’s structural and chemical integrity. Furthermore, it evaluates the rate and consistency of drug release to establish a predictable kinetic model and explain the interaction between the antibiotic and the modified zeolite matrix.
Materials and Methods:
CFT delivery system was developed through the systematic modification of MNZ, with its structural and chemical properties characterized using XRD and FT-IR spectroscopy. The in vitro release kinetics of CFT from the carrier matrix were evaluated at 37°C over a 24-hour period, with drug concentrations quantified via UV-Vis spectrophotometry.
Result:
CFT was successfully adsorbed onto the surface of the MNZ-HDTMA. The subsequent release profiles demonstrated that CFT discharge remained constant over time and exhibited concentration-independent behavior, characteristic of zero-order kinetics. This mechanism ensured a controlled and sustained release of the therapeutic agent, facilitating a prolonged delivery window suitable for enhancing clinical efficacy.
Conclusion
Natural zeolite from the Tushleg deposit was processed through systematic modification to develop the CFT@MNZ-HDTMA drug delivery system. XRD and FT-IR analyses confirmed that the zeolite’s crystalline structure remained stable, while successfully demonstrating that the CFT was adsorbed onto the surface of the adsorbent through ionic interactions. Kinetic studies revealed that CFT is released from the system following a zero-order model (R2=0.9804), indicating a constant release rate. This proves the system’s practical significance in sustaining therapeutic effects and minimizing potential side effects.

Mongolian Journal of Health Sciences 2026;94(4):141-143
Background:
Neurosyphilis is a severe manifestation of Treponema pallidum infection that may occur at any stage, particularly in cases of inadequate treatment or follow-up.
Case Presentation:
We report a case of a 55-year-old male with a prior history of treated syphilis who presented with progressive neuropsychiatric symptoms, including memory impairment, disorganized speech, and behavioral changes. Serial serological testing revealed a rising rapid plasma reagin (RPR) titer from 1:2 to 1:32 over time. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis demonstrated elevated protein levels and a positive Treponema pallidum hemagglutination assay (TPHA 1:80), confirming the diagnosis of neurosyphilis despite a negative VDRL test in CSF. The patient was initially treated with ceftriaxone, followed by definitive therapy with intravenous benzylpenicillin for 14 days. Subsequent follow-up showed a gradual decline in RPR titers (1:32 to 1:1) along with clinical improvement.
Conclusion
This case underscores the importance of adequate post-treatment surveillance and highlights the need to consider neurosyphilis in patients presenting with neuropsychiatric symptoms and rising serological titers, even in the absence of positive CSF VDRL findings.

Mongolian Journal of Health Sciences 2025;87(3):35-39
Backround
Peutz–Jeghers (PJ) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder
characterized by a mucocutaneous pigmentationon on oral mucosa and
multiple hamartomatous polyps located in the digestive tract except esophagus.
PJ syndrome can be diagnosed in early childhood by a characteristic pigmentation
and family history of polyposis. However, it is often diagnosed first
as a polyp in the small intestine that causes obstruction and intussusception
and is often treated with a bowel resection. If diagnosed in young childhood,
an effective non-invasive method is to resect the polyps by tying off the blood
supply to the polyps, that is the method named ischemic polypectomy, before
they grow to the point of obstruction using a endoscopy. PJ syndrome is rare
in Mongolia, but in severe cases, small intestine polyps are treated only surgically.
Double-balloon-endoscopy (DBE) has been performed at the Mongolian-
Japanese Hospital since 2023, making it possible to diagnose and treat
the syndrome endoscopically. Our patient, a 15-year-old boy, had a mucocutaneous
pigmentation that had been previously undiagnosed and was first diagnosed
with intussusception at the age of 13. He had undergone 4 endoscopic
procedures for upper and lower gastrointestinal polyps at the National Center
for Maternal and Child Health successfully. In our hospital, we found endoscopically
multiple hamartomatous polyps of various sizes between 1-3 cm,
and a 3 mm diameter tumor that filled 3/4 of the intestinal lumen was treated
by ischemic polypectomy.
After the procedure, there were no early or late complications related to
the procedure. The child's condition improved, the main complaints subsided,
and he continues his daily life normally. However, follow-up DBE is required.

Mongolian Journal of Health Sciences 2025;86(2):46-50
Background:
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is characterized by symptoms such as malabsorption, nutrient
deficiencies, bloating, and abdominal pain. It can occur independently or in association with other gastrointestinal
disorders. This study aims to determine the prevalence of SIBO in patients with digestive complaints, evaluate diagnostic
outcomes, and analyze the composition and types of pathogenic bacteria present in the small intestine.
Materials and Methods:
A single-center, cross-sectional study was conducted at the Mongolian-Japanese Hospital, enrolling
a total of 46 participants. SIBO was diagnosed using the hydrogen breath test (H₂BT) with lactulose/glucose as
substrates. Among the 27 diagnosed cases, 5 patients were randomly selected for microbiological analysis of small intestinal
contents.
Results:
SIBO was detected in 58.7% of the study participants. Among the 5 patients who underwent microbiological
analysis, 80% (4/5) tested positive for pathogenic bacteria. The identified pathogens included: Gram-positive bacteria:
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus); Gram-negative bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae); Antibiotic-resistant
bacteria: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA); Fungi: Candida albicans (C. albicans). The remaining
20% (1/5) had a baseline H₂BT value exceeding twice the standard threshold despite no detected pathogens.
Conclusion
SIBO is highly prevalent among patients with digestive complaints and may be associated not only with
bacterial infections but also fungal overgrowth. Therefore, a multidisciplinary treatment approach, including antibiotics,
dietary modifications, probiotics, and antifungal therapy, is necessary. While the hydrogen breath test is an effective diagnostic
tool for SIBO, standardization of diagnostic protocols is required for improved accuracy.

Introduction:
Factors such as social and economic conditions, technological development, modern urbanization, lifestyle, physical activity, nutrition, and air pollution affect physical growth and development. Aim: To study the physical development of Mongolian children.
Objectives:
1. To measure the physical indices (weight, height) of children aged 6-17 years old with some influencing factors.
Material and method:
Using a random sampling method, children's body height and weight were examined at a particular point in time using widely accepted methods. Statistical analysis was performed using the "SPSS ver.25" program.
Result:
The growth of children's height and weight is progressing according to general patterns of age and gender. Girls grow rapidly between the ages of 10-13 and stabilize after wards, while boys a sharp growth spurt between the ages of 13-17, with the average height of 17-year-old boys being 171.44 cm and 160.25 cm for girls, which is slightly higher than previous studies (Otgon G, 2006, Munkhzaya M, 2020). The trend of weight growth is more prominent in boys. However, compared to international standards (Russia, WHO, CDC), our children's height and weight are lower. The statistics show that parental education, income, exercise, and living environment positively influence growth and development, whereas excessive television watching and air pollution negatively affect it (p< 0.05).
Conclusion
1. Children's growth is normal, but observed increase of the body weight of boys. Having healthy and well educated parents, as well as engaging in physical activity positively influences children's height. A lack of physical activity negatively affects height and increases weight. Mongolian children are shorter and lighter compared to foreign children (from Russia and America - CDC).

Diagnosis 2024;110(3):57-61
Background:
E-cigarettes were created in China in 2003 and smoke is produced by the transfer of liquids contained within e-cigarettes into proteins. The WHO has warned of the health effects of e-cigarettes and recommended limiting sales. Mongolia imported a total of 2047 e-cigarettes from 2019-2020 and 2.6 million e-cigarettes by 2021. That's because in the school environment, retail outlets are trading in e-cigarettes.
Objective:
Study of pupil and student knowledge of e-cigarette use and its effects among pupils.
Research Methods:
In our study, we found 421 students representing 1304 high school students at 6 high schools in Esenbulag, Altai Province, with 12 years of training, The study was conducted by a closed questionnard of 38 students representing 161 students from MSUT, 151 students representing 962 students from 1st to 6th grade, and a total of 670 youth and students. The results of the study were developed with 24 SPSS applications.
Results of the study:
71.8% of participants in the study are high school students in general education, 5.7% are MSUT students and 22.5% are MNUMS students. It found that 12.5% of students surveyed and 11.7% of teens said they smoked e-cigarettes, compared with 11% of teens and students who occasionally smoked e-cigarettes. 47-73% of teens and students who smoke began smoking starting in the 10th to 11th grade, with 21.3-45.5% of the factors affecting e-cigarette use attracting friends, 9.5-13.4% responded that they were household smokers, 6.2-18.1% said they were interested in making others look attractive, while 42.5-62.4% said they knew about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes and 46-51.7% were trying to stop e-cigarettes. A study of the source of information on the effects of e-cigarettes found that 40.8-47.9% of people get it from social networks and 14.1-20.4% from TV shows.
Conclusions
While the vast majority of students and students know about the effects of e-cigarettes, 56.6% of the participants in the overall study smoke e-cigarettes. Information about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes is being taken from social networks by the vast majority of teenagers and young people on campus. Friends have the highest percentage of exposure to e-cigarettes because of the many factors affecting e-cigarettes.

Mongolian Medical Sciences 2024;210(4):9-17
Background:
Serum natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is a critical biomarker for diagnosing left ventricular
dysfunction. Heart failure is the leading cause of mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD),
emphasizing the need for its early detection and prognosis.
Objective:
This study aimed to determine the serum NT-proBNP levels in participants with CKD and
establish a cut-off value for predicting heart failure.
Methods:
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from April 1 to July 1,2024. This study
received approval from the Ethics Committee of the Institute of Medical Sciences (Approval
No.24/01). A total of 117 CKD patients hospitalized in the Nephrology and Endocrinology
Department of the third state hospital were enrolled based on predefined inclusion and
exclusion criteria. Data were collected using questionnaires, laboratory and heart ultrasound
test results. Serum NT-proBNP levels were measured using a rapid immunofluorescence
quantitative analyzer. Data were analyzed with SPSS 26.0.
Results:
The mean age of the 117 participants was 57.9 ± 14.7 years, with 51.3% being male. The
mean serum NT-proBNP level was 7686 ± 12149 pg/mL. Statistically significant differences
were observed in serum creatinine, sodium, calcium, CKD stage, and arterial hypertension
between genders (p<0.05). NT-proBNP levels in hemodialysis patients differed significantly
between heart failure and non-heart failure groups (p<0.05). Significant differences were
also found in hemoglobin, serum albumin, NT-proBNP levels, and CKD stages (p<0.05).
NT-proBNP correlated significantly with risk factors such as hemodialysis, diabetes, and decreased systolic blood pressure (p<0.0001). A weak inverse relationship was noted
between systolic blood pressure and NT-proBNP (R² = 0.16). The NT-proBNP cut-off value
for predicting heart failure was 3027 pg/mL, with an AUC of 61.7% (sensitivity: 74.5%,
specificity: 55%).
Conclusion
Serum NT-proBNP levels are elevated in CKD patients regardless of heart
failure. The established cut-off value for NT-proBNP in CKD patients to detect heart failure
was 3027 pg/mL, with moderate diagnostic utility (AUC = 61.7%).

Innovation 2020;14(1):28-31
Background:
The ichthyosis is a hereditary skin disease and inherited by autosomal dominant,
autosomal recessive and X recessive trait separately. The X-linked ichthyosis (XLI) is the most
frequent cutaneous disease and general incidence accounts for one in 2000-5000 male births.
Molecular pathogenesis of XLI is due to mutations, which are large deletion, missense, frame shift
and nonsense in STS gene. The vast majority of mutation frequency is a large deletion, which are
found in 85-90% of patients with XLI. An exon deletion of the STS can be detected by Polymerase
chain reaction with exon specific primers. An identification of STS gene mutation has various
importance such as 1) detection of mutation type; 2) for genetic counselling, 3) disease severity,
4) carrier detection.
Methods:
In the present study, pedigree analysis was used for type of inheritance, and Polymerase
chain reaction was used to detect a deletion in STS gene and normal control used. A deletion was
identified in case PCR bands were not visualized in agarose gels.
Results:
We included one patient, who had typical symptoms of XLI including dark, adherent
scales on skin. Mutation analysis of the STS gene showed that the patient had whole gene deletion
(del: Exon 1-10), which was demonstrated by the repeated amplification failure of exons. We used
a sample of healthy man as a wild type control, which showed normal amplification of STS gene’s
exons. Further, the current study will be focused on the screening of heterozygote large deletion
of Del: Exon1-10 of STS gene among patient’s female relatives.
Conclusion
An ichthyosis case enrolled in this study was inherited by X-recessive and we
identified whole exon deletion of STS gene in this patient.

Mongolian Medical Sciences 2011;158(4):18-21
Introduction: According to World Health Organization, air pollution is a major environmental risk to health and is estimated to cause approximately 1.6 million premature deaths worldwide per year. The air pollution of Ulaanbaatar city is rising year after year.Goal: The aim of this study was to define the lung function of adults in Ulaanbaatar.Materials and Methods: 1196 adults were randomly chosen aged over 20 years of Ulaanbaatar city. Of them 238 subjects were excluded because they had at least one of the following: a history of lung diseases including asthma, COPD, pulmonary tuberculosis, lung fibrosis; symptoms of chronic cough, wheeze, or dyspnea; history of thoracic surgery; history of major acute illness in the past 3 months; or a history of respiratory tract infection in the past 4 weeks. Besides demographic data, information on smoking habits was collected. The lung ventilation function of subjects was checked using a spirometry EasyOne, calculating the indexes Forced expiratory volume 1sec (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1/FVC ratio. Lung function measurements followed a standardized protocol and fulfilled the ATS criteria. Results: Of the respondents, 486 were males (50.7%) and 472 were females (49.3%). There was a negative correlation between each lung function and age (p<0.05). The lung function was significantly lower in female than in male, for FEV1, FVC (male - FEV1 3.66±0.659 L, FVC 4.467±0.716 L, female-FEV1 2.663+0.559 L, FVC 3.237+0.586 L). In overall, FVC, FEV1 was decreased by 34.5, 37.2 percent, respectively compared with European LLN value. Conclusion: The mean value for FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC ratio was 3.17±0.78 L, 3.86+0.89 L and 82.02±6.75 % in overall, respectively.
