ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate the application of narrative education in undergraduate nursing teaching, to understand the current application status of narrative education, and to provide a theoretical basis for the subsequent establishment of a sound narrative education system. MethodsA systematic search was conducted for studies published in Chinese and English databases on applying narrative education to undergraduate nursing teaching, with the search period ranging from database inception to February 23, 2025. Literature was screened, and relevant information was extracted. A rigorous quality evaluation was conducted on the included studies, and a descriptive analysis was performed on their content. ResultsA total of 20 papers were included, involving 3,180 research subjects, all of whom were undergraduate nursing students. The results of descriptive analysis showed that the teaching model of narrative education primarily encompassed reading narrative works, watching films and videos, performing narrative scenarios, and writing reflective journals. The course setting and content covered pre-teaching preparation and in-teaching implementation. The evaluation of teaching effectiveness included the evaluation of teachers’ teaching methods (student evaluation/self-evaluation) and the evaluation of students’ learning effectiveness (course grade evaluation/humanistic care scale/empathy scale assessment, and others). ConclusionNarrative education combines abstract concepts with concrete clinical situations, which not only enriches students’ learning experiences but also enhances their humanistic literacy. Meanwhile, it provides teachers with opportunities to develop their narrative teaching skills, which requires them to possess profound professional knowledge and employ narrative techniques to guide students in reflection and critical thinking, thereby improving teaching quality and learning outcomes. Future efforts should consistently deepen the connotation research of narrative education and build a systematic nursing education system.

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui 2025;60(1):73-78
Objective :
To investigate the effects of resveratrol(Res) on fibroblast-like synoviocytes(FLS) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA), and to explore the possible mechanism of Res inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors from FLS.
Methods :
FLS from RA patients were culturedin vitroand treated with different concentrations of Res(0, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320 μmol/L). The viability of FLS cells was detected by CCK-8 assay after 12 and 24 h. The contents of inflammatory factor interleukin-6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in cell supernatant were detected by ELISA. The expression levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase(cGAS) and stimulator of interferon gene(STING) were measured by Western blot; After lentivirus infection with FLS caused the cells to overexpress cGAS, the cells were divided into Control group(blank control), cGAS group(cGAS overexpression), Res+cGAS group(Res 160 μmol/L+cGAS overexpression) and Res group(Res 160 μmol/L). The expression level of STING protein in cells of each group was determined by Western blot, the viability of FLS cells in each group was detected by CCK-8, and the contents of inflammatory factor IL-6 and TNF-α in the supernatant of cells of each group were detected by ELISA method.
Results :
The results of CCK-8 experiment showed that under 40, 80, 160 μmol/L Res treatment, FLS viability decreased significantly after 24 h compared with blank control group(P<0.01). ELISA results showed that the contents of IL-6 and TNF-α in cell supernatant were also significantly decreased after treatment with Res of 40, 80 and 160 μmol/L(P<0.01). Meanwhile, Western blot results showed that Res could significantly decrease the protein expression levels of STING and cGAS in FLS cells after treatment of 40, 80 and 160 μmol/L(P<0.05,P<0.01). Compared with the Control group, the expression level of STING protein in FLS increased after overexpression of cGAS(P<0.05); compared with the Res group, the content of inflammatory factors in the supernatant of FLS and the expression level of STING protein in FLS significantly increased after overexpression of cGAS(P<0.01,P<0.05).
Conclusion
The appropriate concentration of Res can inhibit the release of inflammatory cytokines in FLS cells, which may be related to the blocking of cGAS-STING signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND:Preliminary clinical observations found that Jiawei Chunze Decoction is an effective formula for clinical treatment of urinary retention after spinal cord injury.Animal experiments have found that the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K/Akt)signaling pathway is closely related to the degree of bladder dysfunction. OBJECTIVE:To further investigate the effects of Jiawei Chunze Decoction on bladder function and PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in rats with urinary retention. METHODS:Sixty female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham operation group, model group,Jiawei Chunze Decoction low-dose group,Jiawei Chunze Decoction high-dose group and agonist group. In the sham operation group, the spinal cord was exposed but not transected. In the other groups, the modified Hassan Shaker spinal cord transection method was used to prepare the model of sacral medullary injury. At 24 hours after modeling, the sham operation group and model group were intragastrically given equal volume of normal saline,Jiawei Chunze Decoction low-dose and high-dose groups were given Jiawei Chunze Decoction granules containing 14.4 and 28.8 g/kg,respectively,via intragastric administration for 4 weeks, and the agonist group was treated with an intraperitoneal injection of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway agonist 740Y-P at a dose of 0.02 mg/kg.After 4 weeks of treatment, the maximum bladder capacity, leakage point pressure and bladder compliance of rats in each group were detected by urine flow dynamics. The minimum bladder contraction tension and frequency of rats in each group were detected by detrusor pull test. The pathological changes of the rat bladder in each group were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. The concentrations of GRP78,CHOP and Caspase-12 in serum were detected by ELISA,and the mRNA and protein expressions of PI3K,Akt,GRP78,CHOP and Caspase-12 in bladder tissues were detected by RT-PCR and western blot, respectively. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the sham operation group, the maximum bladder volume, bladder compliance and minimum systolic tension of rats in the model group were increased(P<0.05),and the leakage point pressure and bladder contraction frequency were decreased(P<0.05);serum GRP78,CHOP,and Caspase-12 levels were also increased(P<0.05).The arrangement of bladder epithelial cells in the model group was disordered, and there was monocyte infiltration between cells, tissue edema, and detrusor tract atrophy. The mRNA and protein expressions of PI3K and Akt in bladder tissues were significantly decreased in the model group compared with the sham operation group, while those of GRP78,CHOP and Caspase-12 were increased(P<0.05).Compared with the model group, the maximum bladder volume, bladder compliance and minimum systolic tension of rats were decreased in the Jiawei Chunze Decoction low-dose,high-dose and agonist groups after 4 weeks of intervention(P<0.05),while the leakage point pressure and bladder contraction frequency were increased(P<0.05);serum GRP78,CHOP,Caspase-12 levels were decreased(P<0.05).The bladder epithelial cells in the three intervention groups were distributed evenly, arranged neatly, with less inflammatory cell infiltration and fuller detrusor muscle bundle.Compared with the model group, the mRNA and protein expressions of PI3K and Akt were increased in the three intervention groups, while those of GRP78,CHOP and Caspase-12 were decreased(P<0.05).The Jiawei Chunze Decoction high-dose group was better than the Jiawei Chunze Decoction low-dose group and shared the similar results with the agonist group. To conclude,Jiawei Chunze Decoction can improve the bladder function of rats with urinary retention after spinal cord injury, and the mechanism may be related to reducing the occurrence of endoplasmic reticulum stress in bladder tissue through the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, and then alleviating apoptosis.

ObjectiveTo investigate the incidence rate of sarcopenia in patients with Wilson’s disease (WD)-related liver cirrhosis, as well as the risk factors for sarcopenia and their impact on clinical outcomes. MethodsA total of 140 patients with WD-related liver cirrhosis who were treated in The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine from January 2019 to June 2020, and according to the third lumbar skeletal muscle mass index (L3 SMI), the patients were divided into sarcopenia group and non-sarcopenia group. Nutritional risk screening, anthropometric measurements, and blood biochemical tests were performed for the patients to identify the influencing factors for sarcopenia. The patients were followed up for 36 — 48 months, and survival status and complications were compared between the two groups. The independent-samples t test was used for comparison of normally distributed continuous data between two groups, and the chi-square test and the Mann-Whitney U rank sum test were used for comparison of categorical data between two groups. A binary Logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the influencing factors for sarcopenia, and univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to investigate the risk factors for the prognosis of patients with WD-related liver cirrhosis. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve was plotted, and the Log-rank test was used for comparison between groups. ResultsAmong the 140 patients with WD-related liver cirrhosis, 53 (37.9%) developed sarcopenia, with significantly lower body mass index (BMI) and L3 SMI than the patients without sarcopenia (t=10.550 and 3.982, both P<0.001). The multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that age (odds ratio [OR]=2.243, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.196 — 4.208, P=0.012), sex (OR=0.450, 95%CI: 0.232 — 0.872, P=0.018), BMI (OR=0.126, 95%CI: 0.089 — 0.294, P<0.001), and hepatic encephalopathy (OR=8.367, 95%CI: 2.423 — 28.897, P<0.001) were the main influencing factors for sarcopenia in patients with WD-related liver cirrhosis. Compared with the non-sarcopenia group, the sarcopenia group had significantly higher mortality rate (χ2=6.158, P=0.019) and significantly higher incidence rates of infection (χ2=8.008, P=0.040), recurrent abdominal/pleural efflux (χ2=17.742, P<0.001), and hepatic encephalopathy (χ2=4.338, P=0.039). The multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that sarcopenia (hazard ratio [HR]=4.685, P=0.002) and hepatic encephalopathy (HR=19.156, P<0.001) were independent risk factors for death in patients with WD-related liver cirrhosis. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis showed a significant reduction in survival rate in the patients with sarcopenia (P=0.003). ConclusionSarcopenia is one of the manifestations of malnutrition in patients with WD-related liver cirrhosis, which increases the risk of mortality and other complications and has an adverse effect on prognosis. There is an increased risk of sarcopenia in male patients or patients with hepatic encephalopathy, a lower level of BMI or an older age.

Chinese Journal of Urology 2025;46(4):295-296
We present a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) in a patient who developed fever and generalized pain one week prior to admission. Initial laboratory tests at a local hospital revealed leukocytosis (WBC 17.23×10 9/L), thrombocytopenia (PLT 97×10 9/L), elevated serum creatinine (502 μmol/L), and severe hyperglycemia (31.11 mmol/L). The patient was transferred to our institution following 1 day of symptomatic treatment due to newly developed hallucinations and convulsions. One day after admission, the patient presented with impaired consciousness, cutaneous ecchymosis, and gross hematuria. CT showed extensive gas accumulation within and around the left kidney, with minimal gas noted along the medial diaphragmatic crus. Laboratory findings showed progressive leukocytosis (WBC 22.93×10 9/L), critical thrombocytopenia (PLT 11×10 9/L), and markedly elevated C-reactive protein (309.06 mg/L). After being transferred to the ICU for treatment, the vital signs were stable but the patient remained somnolent. A surgical exploration by the urology department revealed severe infection and necrosis of the left kidney, and a left nephrectomy was performed. Postoperative renal function monitoring showed persistent elevation of serum creatinine (>400 μmol/L), which gradually improved to 200.6 μmol/L following targeted therapy, along with normalized WBC (5.42×10 9/L) and platelet counts (363×10 9/L). The patient achieved full recovery with normal follow-up CT and renal function tests. This case emphasizes the severity of emphysematous pyelonephritis and underscores the multidisciplinary collaboration. Early diagnosis, timely surgical intervention, and critical care support are key to improving prognosis.

Chinese Journal of Infectious Diseases 2025;43(4):202-209
Objective:To study the risk factors for combined bacterial/fungal infections in patients with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) and to develop a novel and validated prediction model. Methods:The basic data and the results of the first laboratory examination after admission were retrospectively collected from patients diagnosed with SFTS who were hospitalized in the First Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University from January 2018 to December 2022. The patients were categorized into co-infected and non-co-infected groups according to whether they had co-infections with bacterial/fungal infections or not.Independent risk factors were screened by multivariate logistic regression analyses. A novel prediction model was constructed, and the predictive value of the model was assessed using receiver operating characteristic curve. Non-parametric tests and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. Results:A total of 294 patients were included, and 62 cases were in the combined infection group including 39 cases of simple respiratory tract infections, 11 cases of simple bloodstream infections, four cases of simple urinary tract infections, four cases of respiratory tract combined with bloodstream infection, and four cases of respiratory tract combined with urinary tract infection. Acinetobacter baumannii was mostly found in bacterial infections, with a total of 19 strains, followed by Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, both with seven strains. Aspergillus were mostly common in fungi, with a total of 16 strains which were all collected from patients with pulmonary infections. Compared with the non-co-infected group, patients in the co-infected group had longer hospital stays, with statistically significant differences ( Z=-6.18, P<0.001). The patients also had higher frequencies of bleeding symptoms, neurological symptoms, severe illness, and death, with statistically significant differences ( χ2=23.91, 16.37, 15.51 and 15.58, respectively, all P<0.001). The aspartate transaminase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) was also higher in patients with coinfection, with a statistically significant difference ( Z=-4.64, P<0.001). Multivariate binary logistic regression showed that severe illness (odds ratio ( OR)=2.567, 95% confidence interval ( CI) 1.344 to 4.904, P=0.004), blood glucose level higher than 7.782 mmol/L ( OR=4.766, 95% CI 2.493 to 9.109, P<0.001), procalcitonin level higher than 0.228 μg/L ( OR=2.487, 95% CI 1.289 to 4.799, P=0.007), and APRI value higher than 6.268 ( OR=3.032, 95% CI 1.404 to 6.548, P=0.005) were the independent risk factors for co-infections in SFTS patients. Disease severity, blood glucose, procalcitonin, and APRI were combined to construct a novel predictive model: Infect-risk score=-3.331+ 0.654×severity (severe=1, non-severe=0)+ 0.160×blood glucose+ 0.066×procalcitonin+ 0.013×APRI. The AUC for this score was 0.764 (95% CI 0.698 to 0.830, P<0.001), with Youden index of 0.416, sensitivity of 0.839, and specificity of 0.578. Conclusions:Severe illness, blood glucose levels higher than 7.782 mmol/L, procalcitonin levels above 0.228 μg/L, and APRI values above 6.268 are independent risk factors for bacterial/fungal coinfection in SFTS patients. The constructed Infect-risk score model has good predictive value for bacterial/fungal coinfection in SFTS patients.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2025;60(5):482-491
Objective:To study the effects of obesity on alveolar bone loss and gut microbiota in mice with periodontitis.Methods:Twenty-four seven-week-old female C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into four groups based on table of random numbers ( n=6 in each group): normal-fat diet group (NFD group), high-fat diet group (HFD group), normal-fat diet and periodontitis group (NFD_PD group) and high-fat diet and periodontitis group (HFD_PD group). NFD and HFD groups were fed with normal or high-fat diet for twelve weeks respectively; NFD_PD and HFD_PD groups were induced to periodontitis by ligating the bilateral maxillary second molars with 5-0 silk thread at the fourth week after feeding with normal or high-fat diet respectively. The body weight was measured weekly. The mice were euthanized for collecting the samples at the end of the 12th week. Liver, kidneys, perirenal and retroperitoneal fat were weighed. Serum was collected to detect the level of serum lipids and inflammatory factors. The right maxilla bones were scanned by micro-CT. HE staining was performed to observe the periodontal tissue. The cecum contents were collected for gut microbiota 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Spearman correlation analysis was performed to analyze the correlation between the abundance of gut microbiota and serum inflammatory level and CT value. Results:After 12 weeks of high-fat diet fed, the body weight of HFD group [(26.52±1.96) g] was significantly higher than that of NFD group [(20.95±0.63) g] ( t=6.63, P<0.001). The body weight of HFD_PD group [(23.82±1.12) g] was significantly higher than that of NFD_PD group [(20.73±0.47) g] ( t=6.23, P=0.001). The serum levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein in HFD group and HFD_PD group were significantly higher than those in NFD group and NFD_PD group ( P<0.01). The distance from the cemento-enamel junction to the alveolar bone crest (CEJ-ABC) on the mesial site of maxillary second molar in HFD_PD group [(647.46±47.46) μm] was significantly higher than that in NFD_PD group [(440.48±68.08) μm] ( t=5.58, P<0.001). HE staining showed that the maxillary second molar attachment loss, collagen fiber destruction and inflammatory cell infiltration were more significant serious in HFD_PD group compared with NFD_PD group. The levels of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) of serum in HFD_PD group [(17.11±1.92), (31.61±3.20) and (204.42±35.96) ng/L, respectively] were significantly higher than those in NFD_PD group [(10.44±1.65), (19.96±2.09) and (147.36±10.76) ng/L, respectively] ( P<0.001, P<0.001, P=0.004). The 16S rRNA gene analysis revealed that the Bacteroides/Firmicutes ratio in HFD_PD group (4.00±3.30) was significantly higher than that in NFD_PD group (0.62±0.19) ( t=2.50, P=0.030). The abundance of Oscillospira in HFD_PD group [(12.25±0.05) %] was significantly higher than that in NFD_PD group [(2.80±0.01) %] ( t=4.64, P<0.001). The abundance of Parabacteroides in HFD_PD group [(0.25±0.27)% ] was significantly lower than that in NFD_PD group [(2.04±0.02)%] ( t=2.32, P=0.043). The β-diversity analysis of gut microbiota based on Bray-Curtis distance showed that samples of HFD_PD group and NFD_PD group were obviously grouped. Correlation analysis showed that the abundance of Oscillospira was positively correlated with IL-1β, IL-6, MCP-1 concentration and CEJ-ABC value in serum significantly ( r values were 0.80, 0.79, 0.80, 0.89, P<0.05). The abundance of Parabacteroides was negatively correlated with IL-1β, IL-6 concentration and CEJ-ABC value in serum significantly ( r values were -0.71, -0.71, -0.86, -0.95, P<0.05). Conclusions:Obesity promotes alveolar bone resorption in periodontitis mice and changes the gut microbiota. Oscillospira and Parabacteroides may play a key role.

Shanghai Journal of Preventive Medicine 2025;37(6):511-514
ObjectiveTo analyze the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of paragonimiasis cases in Sichuan Province, and to provide an evidence for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of paragonimiasis in medical institutions. MethodsData were collected from case reports submitted by cities (prefectures) from 2020 to 2023, including demographic information, epidemiological features, clinical symptoms, laboratory testing indicators, and awareness of paragonimiasis. Epidemiological descriptions and statistical analyses were performed on these variables. ResultsA total of 125 paragonimiasis cases were reported in Sichuan Province from 2020 to 2023, including 53 thoracic/pulmonary cases and 72 extrapulmonary cases. Geographically, cases were distributed in Dazhou City (63 cases, 50.40%), Yibin City (61 cases, 48.80%), and Deyang City(1 case, 0.80%). The male-to-female ratio was 1.66∶1, with 77.60% (97 cases) aged 0‒18 years. Students accounted for the majority of cases (67 cases, 53.60%). Among the patients, 67 cases (53.60%) had a history of consuming raw or undercooked crabs, and 94 cases (75.20%) reported drinking untreated water. The predominant symptoms included migratory subcutaneous nodules (26.40%), cough (24.80%), and abdominal pain/diarrhea (21.60%). Younger patients exhibited a higher proportion of migratory subcutaneous nodules, while older patients more frequently presented with cough and chest pain (χ2=4.060, P=0.044; χ2=9.235, P=0.002). Elevated eosinophil percentages and absolute counts were observed in 99.20% (124 cases) and 93.60% (117 cases) of patients, respectively. Peripheral white blood cell counts were higher in thoracic/pulmonary cases than that in extrapulmonary cases (Z=2.398, P=0.016), but no statistically significant differences were found in eosinophil absolute counts or percentages between the two types (Z=0.609, P=0.542; Z=0.732, P=0.464). In terms of treatment courses, 28 cases had 1 course, 31 cases had 2 courses, 43 cases had 3 courses, 11 cases had 4 courses, and 10 cases had 5 courses or more. Extrapulmonary cases required significantly longer treatment durations than thoracic/pulmonary cases (t=2.299, P=0.023). Only 12.80% (16 cases) of patients were aware of paragonimiasis. ConclusionParagonimiasis in Sichuan Province occurred sporadically, and the patients were mainly children and adolescents. The clinical manifestations of the patients lacked specificity, making it easy to lead to misdiagnosis. During the diagnosis, epidemiological history, migratory subcutaneous nodules and other main symptoms should be fully considered. An increase of the absolute count and proportion of eosinophils served as significant warning indicators for paragonimiasis infection.
