BACKGROUND
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming various fields, including healthcare. In occupational therapy (OT), Generative AI (GenAI) holds promise for enhancing clinical practice and patient outcomes. However, its successful integration depends not only on technological advancements but also on the perceptions, acceptance, and experiences of clinicians. Despite global interest, limited research exists on the perspectives of OT practitioners in the Philippines.

The study is expected to provide insights into the familiarity, experiences, attitudes, and intentions of OT clinicians in Metro Manila regarding AI use in clinical practice. Findings may identify perceived benefits, concerns, ethical and practical considerations, and factors influencing the adoption of AI, highlighting opportunities and barriers for its responsible integration into OT practice.

The prevalence of heart failure (HF) is increasing in many regions of the world, particularly within the context of aging populations in many countries. The Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) sought to explore areas of global HF innovation with the goal of exchanging ideas and best practices internationally. The HFSA Annual Scientific Meeting included roundtable discussions focused on the challenges faced by each of the participating regions and sharing innovative solutions. Themes identified include the lack of high-quality region-specific HF registry data that is required to accurately define patient needs and to facilitate outcome metrics; the tension between providing care that is accessible to the patient vs. concentrating highly-specialized care within tertiary centers; the need to accredit and coordinate HF care across a spectrum of healthcare delivery centers within regions; opportunities to improve the prevention and timely diagnosis of HF to enhance population outcomes, especially in communities facing healthcare disparities; and the evolution of multidisciplinary team-based care, particularly in optimizing access to guideline-directed medical therapies. This article summarizes the major themes that emerged during the roundtable sessions.
3.Predictors of 30-day unplanned hospital readmissions among maintenance dialysis patients

Background and Objectives:
Patients on dialysis are twice as likely to have early readmissions. This study aimed to identify risk factors for 30-day unplanned readmission among patients on maintenance dialysis in a tertiary hospital.
Methods:
We conducted a retrospective, unmatched, case-control study. Data were taken from patients on
maintenance hemodialysis admitted in the University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH)
between January 2018 and December 2020. Patients with 30-day readmission were included as cases and patients with >30-day readmissions were taken as controls. Multivariable regression with 30-day readmission as the outcome was used to identify significant predictors of early readmission.
Results:
The prevalence of 30-day unplanned readmission among patients on dialysis is 36.96%, 95%CI [31.67,
42.48]. In total, 119 cases and 203 controls were analyzed. Two factors were significantly associated with early
readmission: the presence of chronic glomerulonephritis [OR 2.35, 95% CI 1.36 to 4.07, p-value=0.002] and number of comorbidities [OR 1.34, 95% CI 1.12 to 1.61, p-value=0.002]. The most common reasons for early readmission are infection, anemia, and uremia/underdialysis.
Conclusion
Patients with chronic glomerulonephritis and multiple comorbidities have significantly increased odds of early readmission. Careful discharge planning and close follow up of these patients may reduce early readmissions.

4.Evaluation of urine L-FABP Point of care kit in the Philippines as predictive marker of clinical severity of COVID-19 (EPOCH COVID study)

Background:
The search for simple clinical and laboratory markers to help predict the clinical severity of patients presenting with COVID-19 has prompted this study to look at the predictive value of urine L-FABP (Liver Type-Fatty Acid Binding Protein) point-of-care test kit at the initial presentation of COVID-19 patients to the hospital.
Methods:
The validation study prospectively included 109 consecutive patients with mild to moderate COVID-19, mean
age of 52.2 years (range 19-84) presenting at the Emergency Rooms of 4 participating Metro-Manila hospitals from February to April 2021, with available data for analysis for 103 patients. Urine L-FABP POC (Point-of-Care) test and other clinical parameters and the level of severity of COVID-19 were determined at Day 0, Day 4 and Day 7. Computations for Sensitivity, Specificity, Positive and Negative Predictive values and Likelihood ratios were performed.
Results:
Twenty-three patients tested positive for urine L-FABP, out of the 103 patients analyzed, while 80 tested negative. Of the 23 patients who tested positive for urine L-FABP, 6 has progressed in severity, while 17 did not progressed. Of the 80 patients who tested negative for urine L-FABP, 13 progressed, while 67 did not progressed in severity. Giving a Sensitivity of 31.58%, Specificity of 79.76%, Positive predictive value of 26.09%, Negative predictive value of 83.75%. Combining urine L-FABP and initial clinical parameters like SIRS (Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) criteria to predict progression of severity yielded a higher Specificity of 91.67 % and Negative Predictive value of 84.62%.
Conclusions
The study shows the utility of initial urine L-FABP POC test as a negative screening test in triaging adult
patients presenting to the ER with mild to moderate COVID-19. Patients at the ER with a negative urine L-FABP test, will most likely not progressed to severe COVID-19. Combining clinical parameters like SIRS Criteria with the urine L-FABP result can increase the negative predictive value.
