Purpose To investigate the conventional ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound features of epiploic appendagitis (EA). Materials and Methods A retrospective study was performed on 23 patients who were diagnosed with EA in the 907th Hospital of Chinese People's Liberation Army Joint Logistic Support Force from May 2016 to May 2023. The conventional and contrast-enhanced ultrasound findings were analyzed, and the subsequent evolution of ultrasound findings were followed up. Results All 23 patients presented with a solitary mass adjacent to the colon or cecum, with eleven masses being oval, eight being elliptical and four irregular in shape. The margin of the mass was clear in 15 cases, with 12 cases showing a linear hypoechoic rim around the mass. All 23 masses appeared as solid hyperechoic lesions, with two cases showing internal inhomogeneous echoes and linear hypoechoic areas, three cases showing mild thickening of the adjacent intestinal wall and 19 cases showing adhesion to the anterior abdominal wall and fixed in position. No obvious blood flow signals were detected inside the masses in all 23 cases, while only five cases showing slight blood flow signals around the mass periphery. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound demonstrated that the central part of the mass did not enhance, while the edge of the mass showed a ring-shaped hyperenhancement with a thickness of approximately 0.20-1.50 cm in ten patients. Follow-up ultrasound examinations were performed in 12 patients, and the results showed that seven patients had complete disappearance of the initial mass, with one patient found to have a loose body in the rectouterine pouch, and the volume of the mass in the remaining five patients showed varying degrees of reduction during the follow-up period. Conclusion The characteristics of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in EA include a central necrotic area without enhancement, showing a ring-shaped enhancement at the edge. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound is a highly effective imaging modality that can provide strong evidence for the clinical diagnosis of EA by visualizing the size and extent of the infarcted epiploic appendage.

OBJECTIVE:To study the protective effects of Li medicine Chushi qufeng decoction on arthritis model rats. METH-ODS:60 rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, positive group and Chushi qufeng decoction high-dose,me-dium-dose and low-dose groups [45.9,22.95,11.48 g(crude drug)/kg]. Except for normal group, those groups were given chicken type Ⅱ collagen to induce arthritis model. After modeling, normal group and model group were given normal saline intragastrical-ly,once a day,for consecutive 12 d;Chushi qufeng decoction groups were given relevant medicine intragastrically;positive group was given leflunomide 4.5 mg/kg on 1st-3rd day and 1.8 mg/kg on 4th-12th day. The degree of joint lesion in rats were scored. The degree of joint swelling was determined as well as the serum levels of TNF-α,IL-1β and type Ⅱ collagen antibody. RESULTS:Compared with normal group, arthritis index, degree of joint swelling, the serum levels of TNF-α,IL-1βand typeⅡcollagen anti-body increased significantly in model group (P<0.01). Compared with model group, pathological score of positive group and Chushi qufeng decoction high-dose group decreased significantly, and serum levels of TNF-α,IL-1β and type Ⅱ collagen antibody decreased significantly in treatment groups(P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS:Li medicine Chushi qufeng decoction has cer-tain protective effect on arthritis model rats induced by chicken typeⅡcollagen.

OBJECTIVETo examine the influence of China's economic reforms on population health and regional mortality rates.
METHODSLongitudinal study measuring the mortality trends and their regional variations. Using data from the three most recent national censuses, we used the model life table to adjust the mortality levels within the population for each census, and to calculate life expectancy. We then examined the variation in patterns of mortality and population health by economic status, region and gender from 1980-2000.
RESULTSLife expectancy varied with economic status, province, and gender. Results showed that, although life expectancy in China had increased overall since the early 1980s, regional differences became more pronounced. Life expectancy for populations who live in the eastern coastal provinces are greater than those in the western regions.
CONCLUSIONDifferences in life expectancy are primarily related to differences in regional economic development, which in turn exacerbate regional health inequalities. Therefore, it is necessary to improve economic development in less developed regions and to improve health policies and the public health system that address the needs of everyone.
