Objective To investigate the microbial contamination and its influencing factors of indoor air in public places in Xi'an City, to assess the health risk of employees, and to provide a scientific basis for improving the indoor environment of public places. Methods Total bacterial count and total fungal count in indoor air were monitored in hotels/inns, shopping malls/supermarkets, gyms, and waiting rooms in Xi'an from 2023 to 2024. The health risk assessment of employees was evaluated according to the Chinese Population Exposure Parameters Manual (Adult Volume). Results Overall, the standard-exceeding rate of total bacterial count in Xi'an was 3.85%, and the median values of total bacterial count and total fungal count were 350 CFU/m3 and 300 CFU/m3, respectively. The results of the generalized linear model showed that high indoor temperature and PM10 levels were associated with increased indoor bacterial concentrations (β>0, P<0.05), while high daily passenger flow, and high indoor relative humidity and PM10 levels were associated with increased indoor fungal concentrations (β>0, P<0.05). The multivariate logistic regression showed that high levels of indoor bacterial and fungal concentrations were risk factors for respiratory discomfort among employees. The hazard quotient (HQ) values for all types of public places were less than 1, indicating that the health risk of microbial aerosol exposures for employees was relatively low. Conclusion The indoor microbial pollution in public places in Xi'an is relatively mild, but countermeasures still need to be taken to reduce indoor air microbial contamination.

Cancer Research on Prevention and Treatment 2026;53(2):89-95
Despite breakthroughs in immunotherapy for solid tumors, significant variations in treatment efficacy persist. Up to 80% of cancer patients suffer from malnutrition, which leads to: lymphoid atrophy and reduced T-cell reserves; deficiency of substrates required for T-cell activation and expansion; concurrent inflammation hindering T-cell infiltration into tumors; and cachexia accelerating PD-1 antibody clearance. Clinical studies confirm that severe malnutrition significantly impairs immune responses and increases the risk of treatment toxicity. Therefore, implementing standardized nutritional therapy is crucial for optimizing the reserve, activation, expansion, and infiltration capacity of immune cells, thereby providing a sound immune system foundation for immunotherapy. Immunonutrition therapy, by enhancing immunonutrients such as arginine, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, and nucleotides, reduces the secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators and promotes T-cell activation and proliferation. This enhances anti-tumor immune responses, prolongs survival, and advances cancer treatment towards multimodal combination and precision approaches.

In this paper, by referring to ancient and modern literature, the textual research of Inulae Flos has been conducted to clarify the name, origin, production area, quality evaluation, harvesting, processing and others, so as to provide reference and basis for the development and utilization of famous classical formulas containing this herb. After textual research, it could be verified that the medicinal use of Inulae Flos was first recorded in Shennong Bencaojing of the Han dynasty. In successive dynasties, Xuanfuhua has been taken as the official name, and it also has other alternative names such as Jinfeicao, Daogeng and Jinqianhua. The period before the Song and Yuan dynasties, the main origin of Inulae Flos was the Asteraceae plant Inula japonica, and from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present, I. japonica and I. britannica are the primary source. In addition to the dominant basal species, there are also regional species such as I. linariifolia, I. helianthus-aquatili, and I. hupehensis. The earliest recorded production areas in ancient times were Henan, Hubei and other places, and the literature records that it has been distributed throughout the country since modern times. The medicinal part is its flower, the harvesting and processing method recorded in the past dynasties is mainly harvested in the fifth and ninth lunar months, and dried in the sun, and the modern harvesting is mostly harvested in summer and autumn when the flowers bloom, in order to remove impurities, dry in the shade or dry in the sun. In addition, the roots, whole herbs and aerial parts are used as medicinal materials. In ancient times, there were no records about the quality of Inulae Flos, and in modern times, it is generally believed that the quality of complete flower structure, small receptacles, large blooms, yellow petals, long filaments, many fluffs, no fragments, and no branches is better. Ancient processing methods primarily involved cleaning, steaming, and sun-drying, supplemented by techniques such as boiling, roasting, burning, simmering, stir-frying, and honey-processing. Modern processing focuses mainly on cleaning the stems and leaves before use. Regarding the medicinal properties, ancient texts describe it as salty and sweet in taste, slightly warm in nature, and mildly toxic. Modern studies characterize it as bitter, pungent, and salty in taste, with a slightly warm nature. Its therapeutic effects remain consistent across eras, including descending Qi, resolving phlegm, promoting diuresis, and stopping vomiting. Based on the research results, it is recommended that when developing famous classical formulas containing Inulae Flos, either I. japonica or I. britannica should be used as the medicinal source. Processing methods should follow formula requirements, where no processing instructions are specified, the raw products may be used after cleaning.

Journal of International Oncology 2025;52(1):31-37
Objective:To construct a predictive model of ≥ grade 2 radiation esophagitis (RE) in patients with esophageal cancer during concurrent radiochemotherapy (CRT) based on machine learning (ML) algorithm. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 276 patients with esophageal cancer who had received CRT at Lu'an Hospital of Anhui Medical University from January 2018 to January 2023. The occurrence of RE was evaluated according to grading criteria of RE developed by American Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, with ≥ grade 2 RE as the outcome event. After screening variables through the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, the dataset was re-established. The dataset was then divided into training set ( n=193) and testing set ( n=83) in a 7∶3 ratio and included in four ML models: random forest (RF) , decision tree (DT) , extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) , and support vector machine (SVM) . In the models, data training and model optimization were conducted in the training set, and model performance was evaluated in the testing set using the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve. The area under the curve (AUC) , accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and F1 score were calculated to assess the model. SHAP analysis was used to explain the optimal model. Results:By the end of follow-up, 91 cases (32.97%) of esophageal cancer patients had experienced ≥ grade 2 RE during CRT. There were statistically significant differences in tumor lesion length ( Z=-5.53, P<0.001) , Karnofsky performance status (KPS) score ( χ2=5.92, P=0.015) , the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score ( χ2=4.01, P=0.045) , hypertension ( χ2=15.35, P<0.001) , diabetes ( χ2=13.06, P<0.001) , white blood cell count ( Z=-6.59, P<0.001) , neutrophil count ( Z=-6.72, P<0.001) , and radiotherapy dose ( χ2=9.81, P=0.002) between ≥ grade 2 RE occurrence group ( n=91) and no occurrence group ( n=185) . After LASSO regression screening, 7 characteristic variables were ultimately selected, which were tumor lesion length, ECOG score, KPS score, neutrophil count, hypertension, diabetes, and radiotherapy dose. ROC curve analysis showed that the XGBoost model had better predictive performance, with an AUC of 0.90, accuracy of 0.82, precision of 0.80, sensitivity of 0.73, and F1 score of 0.76. The AUC, accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and F1 score of RF model were 0.89, 0.78, 0.76, 0.48, and 0.59, respectively. The AUC, accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and F1 score of DT model were 0.72, 0.72, 0.44, 0.60, and 0.52, respectively. The AUC of SVM model was 0.74, with an accuracy of 0.82, precision of 0.52, sensitivity of 0.88, and F1 score of 0.65. The XGBoost model was explained using SHAP analysis, which indicated that the tumor lesion length, neutrophil count, hypertension, diabetes, and radiotherapy dose had a strong predictive ability for the occurrence of ≥ grade 2 RE during CRT in esophageal cancer patients. Conclusions:The model established based on the XGBoost method has good predictive performance for the occurrence of ≥ grade 2 RE in esophageal cancer patients during CRT. Meanwhile, combined with SHAP analysis, it can provide an intuitive understanding of the impact of important features in the model on the outcome.

Abstract
Esophageal cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system in China , with e-sophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) being the predominant pathological type. The exact etiology of ESCC remains incompletely understood. With advances in 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metagenomics , microbial dys- biosis has been suggested to play a significant role in the pathogenesis of ESCC. Currently , research on the rela- tionship between microorganisms and ESCC is still in its early stages. This review summarizes the association be- tween oral and esophageal microbiota and ESCC , factors influencing microbial composition , and microbial commu- nities linked to ESCC prognosis , which may contribute to early detection and optimized treatment strategies for ES- CC.

BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that patients with premature ovarian failure have changes in the structure of intestinal flora and that imbalance of intestinal microbiota may be one of the important mechanisms in the development of premature ovarian failure. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of Liuwei Dihuang Wan on oxidative stress and intestinal microbiota in premature ovarian failure mice induced by cyclophosphamide. METHODS:Forty-five female ICR mice were randomized into three groups:blank group(normal mice),model group(premature ovarian failure mice),and Liuwei Dihuang Wan group.A mouse model of premature ovarian failure was prepared by one-time intraperitoneal injection of cyclophosphamide(120 mg/kg)in the latter two groups. After successful modeling, the Liuwei Dihuang Wan group was intragastrically administered for 28 continuous days, and the other two groups were intragastrically administered with the same amount of normal saline for 28 days.Mouse body mass was recorded weekly and ovarian index was calculated. The development of mouse follicles was observed using hematoxylin-eosin staining.ELISA method was used to detect serum levels of anti-Mullerian hormone, estradiol, follicle stimulating hormone, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and malondialdehyde.Meanwhile, the gut microbiome of all mice was detected through 16S rDNA sequencing. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The mice in the model group had loose hair, decreased vigor and grip strength, almost no increase in body mass, and decreased ovarian index.Whereas, the mouse body mass and ovarian index were increased after treatment with Liuwei Dihuang Wan(P<0.05).The estrous cycle of mice in the model group was disorganized;Liuwei Dihuang Wan could restore the estrous cycle and reduce the number of atretic follicles in mice with premature ovarian failure. The serum levels of follicle stimulating hormone and malondialdehyde in the model group significantly increased(P<0.01),while the levels of estradiol,anti-Mullerian hormone, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase significantly decreased(P<0.01).Liuwei Dihuang Wan could significantly decrease the serum levels of follicle stimulating hormone and malondialdehyde(P<0.01),and increase the levels of estradiol,anti-Mullerian hormone, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase.According to the 16S rDNA sequencing results,Liuwei Dihuang Wan could regulate the abundance and diversity of intestinal microbiota, and increase the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria.KEGG pathway analysis showed that the intestinal microbiota and metabolic pathways, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, microbial metabolism in different environments, and biosynthesis of amino acids were regulated by Liuwei Dihuang Wan.To conclude, the changes in the structure of intestinal microbiome may be one of the potential mechanisms of Liuwei Dihuang Wan in treating premature ovarian failure.Liuwei Dihuang Wan can regulate the structure of intestinal microbiome, increase the number of beneficial bacteria, reduce the number of harmful bacteria, and thus improve the balance of intestinal microbiota. This regulatory effect helps to reduce oxidative stress levels and further inhibit ovarian oxidative stress in mice with premature ovarian failure.
