Objective This study applies Roy adaptation theory to deeply explore the experience of food avoid-ance behavior in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),offering insights for developing dietary management strategies. Methods A descriptive qualitative research method was employed.By purposive sampling,24 IBD pa-tients hospitalized in the gastroenterology department of a tertiary hospital in Nanjing from July 2022 to December 2024 were selected for semi-structured interviews.Data were analyzed using a directed content analysis approach. Results This study identified 4 main themes and 11 sub-themes,encompassing overattribution leading to inappro-priate avoidance(recurrent symptoms triggering overattribution, disease staging triggering inappropriate avoidance),negative self-perception leading management struggles(illness fear diminishing self-efficacy,disease trauma eroding self-identity,knowledge deficiency constraining self-determination),functional impairment intensifying role challenges(role internalization undermining social function, social roles relinquishing dietary management),and external con-straints amplifying practical difficulties(family and friend oversight heightening dietary stress, healthcare gaps foster-ing practical helplessness, traditional beliefs restricting dietary exploration, economic hardship limiting balanced nu-trition).Conclusion The interplay of overattribution, negative self-perception,functional impairment, and external constraints in IBD patients hinders their ability to adapt to disease fluctuations, ensnaring them in the adaptive predicament of food avoidance behavior.Healthcare professionals should comprehensively address these factors by fostering accurate perceptions, enhancing psychological support, guiding effective coping strategies, and optimizing ex-ternal resources, thereby improving patients' overall adaptive capacity and promoting their recovery.

Objective:To construct the rpoN gene knockout strain (Δ rpoN) and the complemented strain (CΔ rpoN) of Vibrio vulnificus ( V. vulnificus), and investigate the role of the rpoN gene in regulating bacterial motility and biofilm formation. Methods:The Δ rpoN strain of V. vulnificus was constructed using homologous recombination. Bacterial motility was assessed via swimming assays, and flagellar morphology was observed by transmission electron microscopy. Biofilm formation capacity was evaluated using crystal violet and Congo red staining assays, as well as colony morphology analysis. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to detect mRNA levels of target genes associated with flagellar synthesis and biofilm formation in Δ rpoN and the wild-type strains. Results:The V. vulnificus genome harbored a single rpoN gene, encoding a protein with high amino acid sequence similarity to RpoN homologs in other bacterial species. The Δ rpoN strain was successfully constructed. Compared with the wild-type strain, the Δ rpoN strain exhibited complete loss of motility on soft agar plates, absence of flagellar, and downregulated mRNA levels of flagellar synthesis-related genes. Conclusions:In V. vulnificus, RpoN regulates flagellar assembly by modulating the expression of flagellar synthesis genes, thereby controlling bacterial motility and biofilm formation.

Candida albicans is the most abundant fungal species in oral cavity. As a smart opportunistic pathogen, it increases the virulence by switching its forms from yeasts to hyphae and becomes the major pathogenic agent for oral candidiasis. However, the overuse of current clinical antifungals and lack of new types of drugs highlight the challenges in the antifungal treatments because of the drug resistance and side effects. Anti-virulence strategy is proved as a practical way to develop new types of anti-infective drugs. Here, seven artemisinins, including artemisinin, dihydroartemisinin, artemisinic acid, dihydroartemisinic acid, artesunate, artemether and arteether, were employed to target at the hyphal development, the most important virulence factor of C. albicans. Artemisinins failed to affect the growth, but significantly inhibited the hyphal development of C. albicans, including the clinical azole resistant isolates, and reduced their damage to oral epithelial cells, while arteether showed the strongest activities. The transcriptome suggested that arteether could affect the energy metabolism of C. albicans. Seven artemisinins were then proved to significantly inhibit the productions of ATP and cAMP, while reduced the hyphal inhibition on RAS1 overexpression strain indicating that artemisinins regulated the Ras1-cAMP-Efg1 pathway to inhibit the hyphal development. Importantly, arteether significantly inhibited the fungal burden and infections with no systemic toxicity in the murine oropharyngeal candidiasis models in vivo caused by both fluconazole sensitive and resistant strains. Our results for the first time indicated that artemisinins can be potential antifungal compounds against C. albicans infections by targeting at its hyphal development.

The construction of teaching faculty is not only a core element to carry out medical education in municipal general hospitals, but also a weak link. Constructing a performance evaluation system of teaching faculty has important significance in promoting teaching reform and innovation, and improving teachers' enthusiasm for teaching as well as their teaching quality in municipal general hospitals. Taking the Affiliated Dongguan People's Hospital of Southern Medical University as an example, this paper focused on the construction of teaching faculty and aimed to provide references for municipal general hospitals to build a performance evaluation system through the promotion of a series of measures such as teaching ability assessment, quantitative assessment of teaching work, teaching quality evaluation, and teaching contribution assessment.
