Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics and survival outcomes of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) complicated by multiple primary malignancies (MPCs) in a real-world setting. Methods:A retrospective study was performed on 238 NPC patients with MPCs who received radical radiotherapy at Fujian Cancer Hospital between January 1st, 2004 and December 31st, 2023. The primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and cumulative survival rate. Survival analysis was conducted using the Kaplan-Meier method with log-rank / Breslow tests, and univariate analysis of prognostic factors was performed using the Cox proportional hazards model. Results:A total of 246 primary malignant tumors were identified in 238 patients, involving 12 organ systems and 39 tumor types. The most common coexisting malignancies occurred in the respiratory and intrathoracic organs [25.2% (62/246)], followed by digestive organ malignancies [22.8% (56/246)], malignancies of the lip, oral cavity, and pharynx [22.8% (56/246)], and thyroid and other endocrine gland malignancies [15.4% (38/246)]. The median OS was 186 months, and the 3-, 5-, and 10-year cumulative survival rates were 90.84%, 85.25%, and 69.45%, respectively. Poorer survival was associated with male sex, age>48 years at onset, locally advanced disease (stage IVA), synchronous MPCs and/or digestive system malignancies, fewer total cycles of chemotherapy, and lack of concurrent or adjuvant chemotherapy. Conclusions:In patients with NPC, MPCs most frequently involve the respiratory system, digestive system, and head and neck organs (including the thyroid). Male sex, older age, locally advanced primary NPC, synchronous and/or digestive system MPCs, fewer chemotherapy cycles, and lach of concurrent or adjuvant chemotherapy were significantly associated with poorer prognosis.

Objective To explore the effect of phloretin on the proliferation, apoptosis, and tumorigenicity of ovarian cancer cells by regu-lating the Rac1/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway. Methods The ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3 and the human normal ovarian epithelial cell line IOSE-80 were divided into the following groups:control,low-dose phloretin,medium-dose phloretin,high-dose phloretin,PM A,and high-dose phloretin+PMA.Morphological changes were observed under a microscope.Cell viability and apoptosis were assessed using the CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, and flow cytometry.Western blotting was performed to detect the expression of proteins related to the Rac1/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway.Tumor-bearing nude mice were established, tumor weights were measured, and the expres-sion levels of Rae1 and Akt in tumor tissues were analyzed. Results Compared with the control group,SKOV3 cells treated with low-,medium-,and high-dose phloretin showed reduced survival rate, colony formation, and expression of p-NF-κB p65/NF-κB p65,p-Akt/Akt,and Rac 1 in a dose-dependent manner. However,PM A reversed the inhibitory effects of high-dose phloretin on the malignant progression of ovarian cancer. In vivo experiments demonstrated that phloretin significantly inhibited tumor growth and reduced Akt and Rae1 expres-sion in tumor tissues(P<0.05).Conclusion Phloretin suppresses the malignant progression of ovarian cancer by inhibiting the Rae1/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway.

L 5S 1 degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis group had larger FIR [42.53(37.94, 46.81) and 40.79(30.84, 43.53)] and rFD (1.12±0.79 and 0.94±0.79) on the affected side in L 5S 1 segment. L 4, 5 isthmic spondylolisthesis group had smaller rFCSA [0.24(0.20, 0.30) and 0.29(0.23, 0.34)]and larger FIR [34.19 31.30, 42.39) and 29.43(28.82, 36.89)] and rFD (0.39±0.15 and 0.29±0.15) on the affected side in L 4, 5 segment, and had larger FIR (43.18±12.71 and 34.12±11.63) on the affected side in L 5S 1 segment. L 5S 1 isthmic spondylolisthesis group had larger FIR (40.24±9.34 and 36.37±10.70) on the affected side in L 5S 1 segment. No significant difference was found of the multifidus muscle between the affected and unaffected sides in the proximal adjacent segment of the responsible segment in lumbar disc herniation or lumbar spondylolisthesis group patients. L 4, 5 isthmic spondylolisthesis group had larger D-FIR (6.75±8.46 and 1.78±5.77) in L 4, 5 segment, and had larger D-FIR (9.06±11.59 and 1.54±7.08) in L 5S 1 segment compared to L 4, 5 degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis group. Grade Ⅱ L 4, 5 lumbar spondylolisthesis group had larger D-FIR (10.73±13.61 and 1.92±7.43) in L 5S 1 segment compared to grade Ⅰ L 4, 5 lumbar spondylolisthesis group. Conclusion:L 4, 5 or L 5S 1 lumbar disc herniation and lumbar spondylolisthesis patients with unilateral lumbosacral radiculopathy had asymmetric atrophy and fat infiltration of multifidus muscle. The atrophy and fat infiltration on the affected side showed greater. The asymmetry appeared in the responsible segment and its distal adjacent lumbar segment. Lumbar spondylolisthesis patients with a lager degree of slip or with isthmic type could be accompanied by more severe asymmetry of multifidus muscle.

Objective:To investigate the clinical features and risk factors of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) caused by wasp sting. Methods:A retrospective cohort study was conducted to collect the general data of wasp sting patients who had a clear history of wasp sting disease and clinical manifestations from June 2016 to December 2020 and were first diagnosed as wasp sting in hospital. Patients with hematological diseases, malignant tumors, severe liver and kidney dysfunction, cardiac insufficiency, and patients who had received hormone therapy before admission were excluded. Patients who were unable to obtain effective laboratory results due to hemolysis or other reasons within 48 h of admission were also excluded. The white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophil count (NEU), lymphocyte count (LYM), hemoglobin count (HB), myoglobin (Mb/MYO), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), albumin (ALB), K, Na, and Cl of the blood samples collected within 48 h after admission were recorded. Patients were divided into the MODS group and non-MODS group according to whether MODS occurred during hospitalization. Uni- and multivariate analysis were used to analyze the factors affecting the occurrence of MODS in wasp sting patients during hospitalization, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to evaluate the predictive effect of myoglobin level on the occurrence of MODS in wasp sting patients during hospitalization. Results:Mb, WBC, NEU, APTT and serum potassium in the MODS group [3890.00 (1416.90-4057.00) ng/mL, (21.99 ± 8.18) × 10 9/L, (19.61 ± 7.33)× 10 9/L, (93.75 ± 45.77) s, and (4.99 ± 0.95) mmol/L] were significantly higher than those in the non-MODS group [73.50 (34.30-264.20) ng/mL, (13.40 ± 4.14)× 10 9/L, (11.18±4.73)× 10 9/L, (37.00 ± 17.16) s, and (4.05 ± 0.56) mmol/L] (all P < 0.05); blood chlorine and ALB [(101.50 (98.25-105.00) mmol/L and (35.36 ± 6.44) g/L)] were significantly lower than those in the non-MODS group [(105.00 (103.00-107.00) mmol/L and (40.71 ± 5.48) g/L)] (all P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that NEU ( OR = 0.729, 95% CI: 0.542~0.981), Mb ( OR = 0.999, 95% CI: 0.998~1.000), and APTT ( OR = 0.951, 95% CI: 0.921~0.982) were independent risk factors for MODS in wasp sting patients. ROC curve analysis showed that NEU, Mb and APTT could be used to evaluate the occurrence of MODS in wasp sting patients. Among them, Mb had the highest predictive value (AUC = 0.950, 95 % CI: 0.891~0.982). The optimal cutoff value of Mb for predicting the occurrence of MODS in wasp sting patients was 515.30 ng/mL, and the corresponding sensitivity and specificity were 90.62% and 87.23%, respectively. Conclusion:Mb is an independent risk factor for MODS in wasp sting patients, which can be used as a good predictor of MODS in wasp sting patients.

Journal of International Oncology 2020;47(5):304-307
Gastric cancer highly expressed transcript 1 (GHET1) is first found in gastric cancer and is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). GHET1 is located on chromosome 7q36.1, and is highly expressed in many tumors. High expression of GHET1 is closely related to poor prognosis. Studies have found that GHET1 is involved in regulating many physiological and pathological processes of the body through interaction with microRNAs (miRNAs) or proteins, especially in digestive system tumors, and is expected to become a valuable tumor marker and therapeutic target in the future.
