BackgroundPatients with depressive episode and schizophrenia have a high risk of suicide. The sleep electroencephalogram power spectral density characteristics of patients with depressive episode accompanied by suicidal behavior and those with schizophrenia may be different， but there is currently a lack of direct comparative studies on these two groups of patients. ObjectiveTo compare the sleep electroencephalogram power spectral density between depressive episode and schizophrenic patients with suicidal behavior， in order to provide references for exploring predictive indicators of suicidal behavior. MethodsFrom June 2018 to December 2020， 20 patients with depressive episode and 20 patients with schizophrenia who had committed suicide within the past month and were treated at the outpatient department of Shenzhen Kangning Hospital were selected. All of them met the diagnostic criteria for depressive episode or schizophrenia as defined in the International Classification of Diseases， tenth edition （ICD-10）. Using a random sampling method， 20 volunteers with matching gender and age to the patient groups were selected from the Cuiping community in Shenzhen as the control group. The subjective sleep of the patients was evaluated using the Insomnia Severity Index （ISI）， the Dysfunctional Belief and Attitude about Sleep （DBAS）， the Disturbing Dreams and Nightmare Severity Index （DDNSI）， and the Epworth Somnolence Scale （ESS）. The objective sleep of the patients was assessed using polysomnography. The sleep electroencephalogram was filtered and the power spectral density of the brain wave was analyzed and processed for all the subjects. The subjective and objective sleep conditions of the two patient groups were compared， and the sleep electroencephalogram power spectral density of the patient groups and the control group were also compared. ResultsA comparison of subjective and objective sleep conditions between patients with depressive episode accompanied by suicidal behavior and patients with schizophrenia accompanied by suicidal behavior showed no statistically significant differences （P>0.05）. Comparisons of sleep electroencephalogram power spectral density in the W stage （average power of α wave， total power of δ wave， average power of δ wave， average power of θ wave）， N1 stage （average power of β wave， total power of α wave， total power of δ wave）， N2 stage （total power of α wave， average power of α wave， total power of δ wave， average power of δ wave）， N3 stage （average power of α wave， average power of δ wave）， and R stage （total power of α wave， average power of α wave， total power of δ wave， average power of δ wave） between patients with depressive episode accompanied by suicidal behavior， patients with schizophrenia accompanied by suicidal behavior， and the control group showed statistically significant differences （P<0.05 or 0.01）. The total power of δ wave in the W stage and the average power of β wave and δ wave in the N1 stage were higher in two patient groups were higher than those of the control group. The total power of α wave and the average power of α wave in the N2 stage were lower than those of the control group， while the average power of δ wave was higher than that of the control group. The average power of α wave in the N3 stage of both patient groups were lower than that of the control group， while the average power of δ wave was higher than that of the control group. The total power and average power of α wave in the R stage were lower than those of the control group， while the total power and average power of δ wave were higher than those of the control group. All the differences were statistically significant. Patients with depressive episode accompanied by suicidal behavior had higher average powers of α wave， δ wave， and θ wave in the W stage compared with the control group， while the total power of α wave in the N1 stage was lower in the former group. All these differences were statistically significant （P<0.05）. ConclusionThe depressive episode patients accompanied by suicidal behavior have highly overlapping sleep electroencephalogram abnormal patterns with those of schizophrenia patients， mainly manifested as a general decrease in α wave power （N2， N3， R stage） and a general increase in δ wave power （W， N1， N2， N3， R stage） as well as β wave power in N1 stage. ObjectiveTo observe the pharmacodynamic efficacy of phlorizin in improving hepatic glycolipid metabolism disorders in type 2 diabetic mellitus （T2DM） rats and to explore its mechanism of action based on the insulin receptor substrate-1 （IRS-1）/phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase （PI3K）/protein kinase B （Akt） signaling pathway. MethodsA high-fat diet and streptozotocin （STZ） were used to establish T2DM rat models. The rats were randomly assigned into six groups： the blank control group， model group， metformin group （300 mg·kg^-1）， and phlorizin high-dose （100 mg·kg^-1） and low-dose groups （25 mg·kg^-1）. The rats were given intragastric administration for 6 weeks. The changes in body weight and fasting blood glucose （FBG） were observed， and the oral glucose tolerance test （OGTT） was carried out. The levels of total cholesterol （TC）， triglyceride （TG）， low-density lipoprotein cholesterol （LDL-C）， high-density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDL-C）， glycated serum protein （GSP）， aspartate aminotransferase （AST）， and alanine aminotransferase （ALT） in serum were detected by an automatic biochemical analyzer. The levels of fasting insulin （FINS）， interleukin （IL）-1β， IL-6， and tumour necrosis factor （TNF）-α were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）. The levels of superoxide dismutase （SOD） and malondialdehyde （MDA） were detected by the biochemical assays. The pancreas index， liver index， and insulin resistance index were calculated. Hematoxylin-eosin （HE） staining was used to evaluate the pathological changes in liver and pancreatic tissues. The immunofluorescence method was used to detect the changes in insulin and glucagon in pancreatic tissue. Western blot was used to detect the expression of related proteins in the IRS-1/PI3K/Akt pathway of liver tissue and its downstream glycogen synthase kinase-3β （GSK-3β） and forkhead box transcription factor O1 （FoxO1） proteins. ResultsCompared with the blank control group， the body weight of rats in the model group continued to decrease， while the FBG level increased significantly. The area under the OGTT blood glucose curve （AUC）， GSP， TC， TG， LDL-C， IL-1β， IL-6， TNF-α， MDA， pancreatic index and liver index increased significantly， while the levels of HDL-C， SOD， and FINS decreased significantly （P0.05， P0.01）. Histological results showed that the pancreatic islets of rats in the model group exhibited atrophy and severe structural abnormalities. The insulin-positive β-cells decreased significantly （P0.01）， while the glucagon-positive α-cells increased significantly （P0.01）. Inflammatory cell infiltration and partial necrosis were observed in the liver tissues of the model group rats. The expressions of p-IRS-1/IRS-1， p-GSK-3β/GSK-3β， and p-FoxO1/FoxO1 proteins in the liver of the model group increased significantly （P0.01）， while the expressions of p-PI3K/PI3K and p-Akt/Akt proteins decreased significantly （P0.01）. Compared with the model group， the diabetic symptoms of rats in all administration groups were improved. The changes in body weight and FBG were close to those of the blank control group. The levels of OGTT-AUC， GSP， TC， TG， LDL-C， MDA， IL-1β， IL-6， TNF-α and the pancreatic index， liver index were obviously reduced （P0.05， P0.01）， while the levels of HDL-C， SOD， and FINS obviously increased （P0.05， P0.01）. The pathological changes of the pancreas and liver in rats in all treatment groups were effectively improved. The insulin-positive β-cells in the pancreas increased significantly （P0.01）， while the glucagon-positive α-cells decreased significantly （P0.01）. The protein expressions of p-IRS-1/IRS-1， p-GSK-3β/GSK-3β， and p-FoxO1/FoxO1 in the liver were significantly reduced （P0.01）， while the protein expressions of p-PI3K/PI3K and p-Akt/Akt significantly increased （P0.01）. ConclusionPhlorizin reversed the weight loss and abnormal increase of FBG in T2DM rats， improved blood lipid profiles， oxidative stress， and inflammatory levels， alleviated insulin resistance， and had certain protective effects on the liver and pancreas. The hypoglycemic mechanism may involve regulating the IRS-1/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway to inhibit the activities of GSK-3β and FoxO1， thereby promoting liver glycogen synthesis and suppressing hepatic gluconeogenesis， ultimately improving glycolipid metabolism disorders.

BACKGROUND:Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is an important treatment for malignant hematological diseases,and delayed postoperative platelet implantation is a common complication that seriously affects the quality of patient survival;however,there are no standard protocols to improve platelet implantation rates and prevent platelet implantation delays. OBJECTIVE:To compare the safety and efficacy of oral Herombopag Olamine versus subcutaneous recombinant human thrombopoietin for promoting platelet implantation in patients with malignant hematological diseases undergoing haploid hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. METHODS:Clinical data of 163 patients with malignant hematological diseases who underwent haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from January 2016 to October 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.A total of 72 patients who started to subcutaneously inject recombinant human thrombopoietin at+2 days were categorized into the recombinant human thrombopoietin group;a total of 27 patients who started to orally take Herombopag Olamine at+2 days were categorized into the Herombopag Olamine group;and 64 patients who did not apply Herombopag Olamine or recombinant human thrombopoietin were categorized into the blank control group.The implantation status,incidence of acute graft-versus-host disease of degree II-IV within 100 days,1-year survival rate,1-year recurrence rate,and safety were analyzed in the three groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The average follow-up time was 52(12-87)months.The implantation time of neutrophils in the blank control group,recombinant human thrombopoietin group,and Herombopag Olamine group was(12.95±3.88)days,(14.04±3.71)days,and(13.89±2.74)days,respectively,with no statistically significant difference(P=0.352);the implantation time of platelets was(15.16±6.27)days,(17.67±6.52)days,and(17.00±4.75)days,with no statistically significant difference(P=0.287).(2)The complete platelet implantation rate on day 60 was 64.06%,90.28%,and 92.59%,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001).The subgroup analysis showed that the difference between the blank control group and the recombinant human thrombopoietin group was statistically significant(P<0.001),and the difference between the blank control group and the Herombopag Olamine group was statistically significant(P=0.004).The difference was not statistically significant between the recombinant human thrombopoietin group and Herombopag Olamine group(P=0.535).(3)100-day II-IV degree acute graft-versus-host disease incidence in the blank control group,recombinant human thrombopoietin group,and Herombopag Olamine group were 25.00%,30.56%,and 25.93%,respectively,and the difference was not statistically significant(P=0.752).(4)The incidence of cytomegalovirus anemia,cytomegalovirus pneumonia,and hepatic function injury had no statistical difference among the three groups(P>0.05).(5)During the follow-up period,there was no thrombotic event in any of the three groups of patients.(6)The results showed that recombinant human thrombopoietin and Herombopag Olamine could improve the platelet implantation rate of malignant hematological disease patients after haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,with comparable efficacy and good safety.

BACKGROUND:It has been found that mitochondrial function is abnormal in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome,and the administration of coenzymes can improve the symptoms.Warm acupuncture is one of the most important treatments for this disease,but its mechanism of action is unclear. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of warm acupuncture on the phosphatase and tensin inducible kinase 1(PINK1)/Parkin pathway in the skeletal muscle of rats with chronic fatigue syndrome. METHODS:After 3 days of adaptive feeding,32 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into normal control,model,warm acupuncture,and coenzyme Q groups with 8 rats in each group.The chronic fatigue syndrome model was established by multiple factors,including swimming exhaustion,chronic immobilization and fasting.After successful modeling,the normal group and the model group were treated with the same fixation and gavage procedures,and the warm acupuncture group was treated with acupuncture at Guanyuan,Zhongwan and Zusanli(bilateral)points,once a day.After the needling was inserted,the moxa pillar was put on the needle handle and ignited,three sessions once.The coenzyme Q group was given 1 mL/kg coenzyme by gavage,once a day for 14 days.The body mass,exhaustive swimming time and food utilization rate during the treatment were recorded.After the treatment,the bilateral gastrocnemius muscles of rats in each group were collected.The pathological morphology of the gastrocnemius muscle was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining,the mitochondrial morphology and autophagosome of the gastrocnemius muscle were observed by transmission electron microscope.The expression level of microtubule-associated protein light chain 3(LC3)Ⅱ protein in the skeletal muscle was detected by immunohistochemistry.Western blot was used to detect the expression of PINK1,Parkin,LC3 Ⅰ,and LC3 Ⅱ in the skeletal muscle. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the normal group,the gastrocnemius muscle nuclei of the model group were pyknotic,condensed,the number of cells was increased,the cells were arranged disorderly,and the fibers in the gastrocnemius muscle were tightly arranged in the model group.Compared with the model group,the intercellular space became smaller,the nuclei were reduced,and the cell arrangement was orderly in the warm acupuncture group and coenzyme Q group.Compared with the normal group,the skeletal muscle mitochondria in the model group were swollen,fused,and vacuolated seriously,the membrane was partially broken,the matrix was more dissolved,the cristae was broken and disappeared,and autophagy appeared.Compared with the model group,the number of mitochondria increased,the arrangement was relatively neat,mitochondrial vacuolization and rupture of cristae in the gastrocnemius muscle were improved,the membrane structure was relatively intact,and autophagy occurred.Compared with the normal group,the expression of PINK1 protein in the skeletal muscle of the model group was significantly increased(P<0.05),while the expression of Parkin,LC3 Ⅱ and LC3 Ⅱ/Ⅰ protein was slightly upregulated(P>0.05).Compared with the model group,the protein expressions of PINK1,Parkin,LC3 Ⅱ and LC3 Ⅱ/Ⅰ were significantly upregulated in the warm acupuncture and coenzyme Q groups(P<0.05),and the up-regulation was more significant in the warm acupuncture group.To conclude,warm acupuncture can play a role in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome by activating the PINK1/Parkin pathway,upregulating LC3 Ⅱ expression,forming mitochondrial autophagosomes,promoting the degradation of damaged mitochondria,and improving mitochondrial quality.

Objective:To explore the effectiveness, safety, and cost among urinary follicle-stimulating hormone (u-FSH), recombinant FSH (r-FSH)α, and r-FSHβ in the early follicular phase prolonged protocol for patients under 35 years old with normal ovarian function.Methods:It was a retrospective cohort study. Patients under 35 years old with normal ovarian function who underwent early follicular phase prolonged protocol for ovulation stimulation and using in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for fertilization in Reproductive Health Hospital of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2018 to December 2023 were recruited, including the fresh and frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles. Patients were divided into u-FSH group, r-FSHα group, and r-FSHβ group. A total of 1 048 ovarian stimulation cycles were included, with 150 cycles, 490 cycles and 408 cycles in the three groups respectively. A total of 710 FET cycles with fresh cycle cancellation were included, with 95 cycles, 320 cycles and 295 cycles in the three groups respectively. The baseline data, pregnancy outcomes, safety, and cost were compared among the three groups. The main observation indicators were cumulative pregnancy rate and cumulative live birth rate (CLBR). A binary logistic regression model was used to control confounding factors, and to analyze the relationship between three ovulation inducing medicine and CLBR. Results:The difference in the number of oocytes retrieved among the u-FSH group, r-FSHα group, and r-FSHβ group was statistically significant [13.0 (10.0, 16.0), 14.0 (11.0, 18.0), 15.0 (11.0, 19.0), respectively, P=0.012], and the difference in the number of 2PN embryos was statistically significant [9.0 (6.0, 12.0), 10.0 (7.0, 13.0), 10.0 (7.0, 13.0), respectively, P=0.046]. There were no statistically significant differences in the number of available embryos, available embryo rate, the number of high-quality embryos, high-quality embryo rate, available blastocyst formation rate, fresh cycle clinical pregnancy rate, live birth rate in fresh cycle, cumulative pregnancy rate of frozen embryos with fresh cycle cancellation, CLBR of frozen embryos with fresh cycle cancellation, cumulative clinical pregnancy rate, CLBR, moderate to severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome incidence, ectopic pregnancy rate, multiple pregnancy rate and neonatal malformation rate among the three groups (all P>0.05). In terms of economy, the u-FSH group had the lowest total gonadotropin cost for each patient, while the r-FSHα group had the highest. The differences among the three groups were statistically significant [u-FSH group 4 429.08 (3 198.78, 5 044.23) yuan, r-FSHα group 6 023.72 (5 433.75, 7 529.65) yuan, r-FSHβ group 5 480.00 (4 550.90, 6 437.86) yuan, P<0.001]. Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted, using u-FSH as a control. The CLBR of the r-FSHα group and r-FSHβ group showed no statistically significant difference compared with the u-FSH group (a OR=0.95, 95% CI: 0.57-1.58, P=0.838; a OR=0.89, 95% CI: 0.54-1.48, P=0.654). Conclusion:For patients under 35 years old with normal ovarian function undergoing long protocol ovarian stimulation, the effectiveness and safety of the three ovarian-stimulating medicine are similar, but u-FSH has economic advantages.

Objective:To investigate the association between homocysteine (Hcy) and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), as well as its impact on clinical pregnancy outcomes in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection and embryo transfer (IVF/ICSI-ET). Methods:This retrospective cohort study collected clinical data from patients undergoing IVF/ICSI-ET at the Reproductive Health Hospital of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between December 2020 and March 2024. Patients were divided into no history of pregnancy loss group (named control group, n=1 027) and RPL group ( n=743) based on history of pregnancy loss. Peripheral blood Hcy levels were compared between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to adjust for confounding factors and determine whether Hcy is an independent risk factor for RPL. RPL patients were divided into four subgroups based on Hcy quartiles, named Q1 subgroup (Hcy<7.03 μmol/L), Q2 subgroup (7.03 μmol/L≤Hcy<8.63 μmol/L), Q3 subgroup (8.63 μmol/L≤Hcy<10.44 μmol/L), and Q4 subgroup (Hcy≥10.44 μmol/L), to further analyze the impact of Hcy level on pregnancy outcomes after IVF/ICSI-ET in these patients. Results:1) Baseline characteristics between control and RPL groups: statistically significant differences were observed in female age, male age, female body mass index (BMI), duration of infertility, cause of infertility, and peripheral blood Hcy levels (all P<0.05). 2) After adjusting for female age, male age, female BMI, duration of infertility, and cause of infertility via multivariate logistic regression, elevated Hcy levels was identified as an independent risk factor for RPL (a OR=1.366, 95% CI: 1.298-1.438, P<0.001). 3) Baseline characteristics of the four RPL subgroups: antral follicle count (AFC) differed significantly among Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 subgroups [17.00 (11.00, 24.00), 15.00 (10.00, 24.00), 14.00 (7.00, 22.25), 15.50 (8.00, 22.00), P=0.043]. No statistically significant differences were observed in other baseline characteristics (all P>0.05). 4) Pregnancy outcomes across the four RPL subgroups: miscarriage rates in the Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 subgroups were 18.18% (18/99), 30.61% (30/98), 33.70% (31/92), and 35.96% (32/89), respectively, live birth rates were 44.26% (81/183), 36.17% (68/188), 32.80% (61/186), and 30.65% (57/186), respectively. Intergroup differences in miscarriage rate and live birth rate were statistically significant ( P=0.033, P=0.036). Specifically, miscarriage rate in the Q3 and Q4 subgroups, and live birth rate in the Q4 subgroup were significantly higher than those in the Q1 subgroup (all q<0.05). However, no significant differences were observed in clinical pregnancy rate or early miscarriage rate among the four groups (all P>0.05). After adjusting for confounding factors using multivariate logistic regression, taking the Q1 subgroup as the control, there were no statistically significant differences in the clinical pregnancy rate between the remaining groups and the Q1 subgroup (all P>0.05). The early miscarriage rate in the Q3 subgroup (a OR=2.184, 95% CI: 1.077-4.426, P=0.030) and the early miscarriage rate in the Q4 subgroup (a OR=2.290, 95% CI: 1.116-4.697, P=0.024) were significantly higher than those in the Q1 subgroup; the miscarriage rate in the Q3 subgroup (a OR=2.207, 95% CI: 1.125-4.330, P=0.021) and the miscarriage rate in the Q4 subgroup (a OR=2.377, 95% CI: 1.209-4.674, P=0.012) were significantly higher than those in the Q1 subgroup; the live birth rate in the Q3 subgroup (a OR=0.615, 95% CI: 0.401-0.944, P=0.026) and the live birth rate in the Q4 subgroup (a OR=0.560, 95% CI: 0.364-0.863, P=0.009) were significantly lower than those in the Q1 subgroup. Conclusion:Elevated Hcy is a high-risk factor for RPL in IVF/ICSI-ET patients and may adversely affect pregnancy outcomes.

Objective To investigate the safety parameters of the air-powered electrocautery hook and its advantages in laparoscopic surgery.Methods In pressure trauma experiments,21 healthy New Zealand White Rabbits were randomly divided into three groups.In each group,three sites(liver,intestine,and kidney)were selected from each rabbit,and the air-powered electrocautery hook was used under laparoscopy to apply pressure and time gradients in a cross-combination manner.The three groups of experimental rabbits were dissected at three time points:immediately after application,3 d post-application,and 7 d post-application.Pathological sections were prepared from the corresponding treated sites,and the extent of injury was assessed.In rabbit renal capsule removal experiment,another 20 healthy New Zealand White Rabbits were randomly divided into 2 groups.Renal capsule removal was performed by using an air-powered electrosurgical hook and a conventional electrosurgical hook,respectively,to compare the two groups in terms of surgical time,intraoperative bleeding volume,intraoperative complications,and the number of times of wiping speculum.Results In pressure trauma experiment,except for the intestinal tract at 3 seconds(P=0.060),the histopathological scores under 0.3 MPa pressure were significantly higher than those under 0.1 MPa(P<0.05)and 0.2 MPa(P<0.05)in all the tissues.In the tissue sampling groups at 3 d and 7 d post-surgery,no tissue damage was observed in any tissue at any time point under 0.1 MPa pressure.In rabbit renal capsule removal experiment,the aerodynamic electrocautery group had less intraoperative bleeding volume than the conventional electrocautery group[(2.9±0.5)ml vs.(3.4±0.5)ml,t=-2.280,P=0.035].There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of surgical time,intraoperative complication rates,and the number of times of wiping speculum(P>0.05).Conclusions The safe pressure range for using the air-powered electrosurgical hook on the surfaces of the kidney and intestinal tract is within 0.2 MPa.Within the safe pressure range,blowing on tissue for 6 seconds or less is relatively safe.Using the air-powered electrosurgical hook in surgeries requiring the separation of loose connective tissue can reduce intraoperative bleeding.

Objective:To analyze the correlation between bone metabolism marker β-CTX and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods:In this retrospective cohort study, a total of 279 postmenopausal women with T2DM who were admitted to the Endocrinology Department of Shanxi Bethune Hospital from February 2023 to February 2024 were included. Among them, 152 patients had MAFLD. The bone metabolism markers were measured in all the subjects. The logistic regression analysis was used to assess the correlation between β-CTX and the risk of MAFLD.Results:In postmenopausal T2DM women, serum β-CTX level in the MAFLD group [352.50 (248.60, 442.95)pg/ml ] was significantly lower than that in the non-MAFLD group [643.20 (446.10, 781.90) pg/ml]( Z=-10.896, P0.05). Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that reduced β-CTX( OR=0.986, 95% CI:0.981-0.991), BMI( OR=1.232, 95% CI: 1.046-1.451) and fasting insulin (FINS)( OR=1.155, 95% CI: 1.041-1.281) were independent risk factors for the risk of MAFLD in postmenopausal T2DM women (all P0.05), and β-CTX was negatively correlated with the occurrence of MAFLD ( β=-0.013, P0.001). Additionally, in postmenopausal T2DM women with MAFLD, serum β-CTX level was significantly negatively correlated with BMI ( r=-0.191) and TG ( r=-0.128) (both P0.05). Conclusions:The bone metabolism index β-CTX in postmenopausal women with T2DM is significantly negatively correlated with the risk of MAFLD.

Objective:To explore the impact of air pollution on hospital visits for mental and behavioral disorders among residents in an industrial area in Henan Province from 2016 to 2021.Methods:Daily outpatient visits data for mental and behavioral disorders were collected from Angang General Hospital in Angang Industrial Area at Anyang City between January 2016 and December 2021. And air pollutants and meteorological data during the same period were also collected. A generalized additive model was used for time-series analysis to examine the relationship between daily average concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO 2), sulfur dioxide (SO 2), fine particulate matter (PM 2.5), inhalable particulate matter (PM 10), carbon monoxide (CO), and ozone (O 3) with a lag of 0 to 7 days on the number of visits for mental and behavioral disorders among residents. The single-day lag effect (lag0-lag7 d) and cumulative lag effect (lag01-lag07 d) were analyzed. The smooth cubic spline function was used to fit the exposure-response relationship, and subgroup analysis was performed according to different genders, seasons and ages. Results:A total of 26 268 hospital visits for mental and behavioral disorders were collected from the industrial area between 2016 and 2021. The daily average concentrations of SO 2, NO 2, PM 2.5, PM 10, and CO were (27.50±27.33), (43.11±18.33), (73.87±60.30), (134.01±83.81) μg/m 3, and (1.72±1.03) mg/m 3, respectively. The daily maximum 8-hour average concentration of O 3 was (82.18±53.70) μg/m 3. After controlling for long-term trends, temperature, relative humidity, day of the week effects, and holiday effects, the generalized additive model analysis showed that NO 2 had a statistically significant impact on the hospital visits for mental and behavioral disorders at lag0 d, lag2 d and lag01-lag05 d and CO had a statistically significant impact at lag0-lag3 d and lag01-lag06 d (all P<0.05). NO 2 at lag02-lag04 d and CO at lag0-lag2 d and lag01-lag04 d had statistically significant effects on the visits for neurasthenia (both P<0.05). The impacts of NO 2 at lag03-lag04 d, PM 2.5 at lag3 d and lag03-lag04 d, PM 10 at lag3 d and lag03 d, and CO at lag3 d and lag01-lag05 d on visits for generalized anxiety disorder were also statistically significant (all P<0.05). After false discovery rate (FDR) correction, it was shown that for every 10 μg/m 3 increase in NO 2 and every 0.1 mg/m 3 increase in CO, the percentage increase in visits for mental and behavioral disorders and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were 3.38% (0.95%-5.87%) and 0.78% (0.38%-1.17%), respectively. For every 0.1 mg/m 3 increase in CO, the visits for neurasthenia increased by 0.78% (0.27%-1.29%). For every 10 μg/m 3 increase in PM 2.5 and every 0.1 mg/m 3 increase in CO, the visits for generalized anxiety disorder increased by 1.07% (0.46%-1.68%) and 1.17% (0.37%-1.97%), respectively (adjusted P<0.05). There was a linear exposure-response relationship between NO 2 and CO and the hospital visits for mental and behavioral disorders, CO and the hospital visits for neurasthenia, and CO and PM 2.5 and the hospital visits for generalized anxiety disorder ( P<0.05 for the overall association test and P>0.05 for the non-linearity test). Stratified analysis showed that air pollutants had an impact on male patients with neurasthenia, female patients with generalized anxiety disorder, individuals aged <45 years with mental and behavioral disorders, and individuals aged ≥65 years with generalized anxiety disorder. The impact of air pollutants was greater during the cold season or winter. Conclusion:Exposure to air pollution can increase hospital visits for mental and behavioral disorders among residents in industrial areas, with a higher risk among those aged<45 years old and during the cold season.
