Childhood simple obesity has become a significant public health issue in China. Modern medicine primarily relies on lifestyle interventions and often suffers from poor long-term compliance, while pharmacological options are limited and associated with potential adverse effects. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history in the prevention and management of this condition, demonstrating eight distinct advantages, including systematic theoretical foundation, diversified therapeutic approaches, definite therapeutic efficacy, high safety profile, good patient compliance, comprehensive intervention strategies, emphasis on prevention, and stepwise treatment protocols. Additionally, TCM is characterized by six distinctive features: the use of natural medicinal substances, non-invasive external therapies, integration of medicinal dietetics, simple exercise regimens, precise syndrome differentiation, and diverse dosage forms. By combining internal and external treatments, TCM facilitates individualized regimen adjustment and holistic regulation, demonstrating remarkable effects in improving obesity-related metabolic indicators, regulating constitutional imbalance, and promoting healthy behaviors. However, challenges remain, such as inconsistent operational standards, insufficient high-quality clinical evidence, and a gap between basic research and clinical application. Future efforts should focus on accelerating the standardization of TCM diagnosis and treatment, conducting multicenter randomized controlled trials, and fostering interdisciplinary integration, so as to enhance the scientific validity and international recognition of TCM in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2025;45(3):514-521
OBJECTIVES:
To explore the risk factors for malnutrition in patients with ulcerative colitis complicated with pyoderma gangrenosum and establish a nutritional risk prediction model for these patients.
METHODS:
A total of 277 patients with ulcerative colitis complicated with pyoderma gangrenosum treated from 2019 to 2024 were divided into malnutrition group (n=185) and normal nutrition group (n=92) according to whether malnutrition occurred. The data of 25 potential related factors pertaining to general demography, living and eating habits, and disease-related data were compared between the two groups. Lasso regression was used to screen the risk factors, and a nomogram model was established based on the screened factors and its prediction performance was assessed.
RESULTS:
The patients in the malnutrition group and normal nutrition group showed significant differences in 21 factors including gender, age, education level, BMI, place of residence, course of disease, and SAS language score (P<0.05). Lasso regression analysis identified 6 factors associated with malnutrition in these patients, namely the duration of ulcerative colitis, activity of ulcerative colitis, duration of pyoderma gangrenosum, number of chronic diseases, SAS score, and sleep quality. The nomogram prediction model established based on these 6 factors had an AUC of 0.992 (95% CI: 0.984-1.000) for predicting malnutrition in these patients, and its application in 14 clinical cases achieved an accuracy rate of 100%.
CONCLUSIONS
The duration of ulcerative colitis, activity of colitis, duration of pyoderma gangrenosum, number of chronic diseases, anxiety, and sleep quality are closely related with malnutrition in patients with ulcerative colitis complicated by pyoderma gangrenosum, and the nomogram prediction model based on these factors can provide assistance for predicting malnutrition in these patients.

Objective:To investigate the subacute toxicity and target organs of triethylenediammonium perchlorate ammonium complex salt (DAP-4) .Methods:In August 2024, 40 SPF-grade SD rats were selected, with 10 rats in each group, half male and half female. There were 45, 140, and 420 mg/kg DAP-4 groups and a control group. Rats in each dose DAP-4 group were orally administered the corresponding amount of DAP-4 solution, while the control group was given the same dose of 1% sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. SD rats were given intragastric administration once a day for 28 consecutive days. The behaviors, histopathological changes, and blood physiological and biochemical indicators of rats were detected at the corresponding time points respectively. One-way analysis of variance was used for the comparison of quantitative data between groups. Results:Compared with the control group, the body weight, food intake and food utilization rate of female and male rats in the 420 mg/kg DAP-4 group were significantly decreased ( P<0.05), while no abnormalities were observed in the other dose groups. Compared with the control group, the white blood cell count of female rats in the 420 mg/kg DAP-4 group decreased, while the hemoglobin and hematocrit decreased and the total serum protein increased of male rats ( P<0.05). Compared with the control group, fibrinogen was increased in both female and male rats in the 420 mg/kg DAP-4 group, and the thrombin time of female rats was shortened ( P<0.05). In each dose group, the livers of female and male rats showed varying degrees of vacuolar degeneration, and the renal tubules of female rats were swollen. Conclusion:420 mg/kg DAP-4 can cause damage to the liver and kidney of rats, and the maximal no effect level of DAP-4 for rats is 140 mg/kg.

The expression levels of miR-1243 and lncRNA HULC in PTC tissues and adjacent normal tissues were detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The differences in the expression levels of miR-1243 and lncRNA HULC between PTC tissues and adjacent normal tissues, as well as among PTC tissues with different clinical features and different prognoses, were analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the value of miR-1243 in predicting postoperative recurrence of PTC patients. Results:The relative expression level of miR-1243 in PTC tissues was significantly lower than that in adjacent normal tissues ( P<0.05), while the relative expression level of lncRNA HULC was higher than that in adjacent normal tissues ( P<0.05). The relative expression level of lncRNA HULC in PTC tissues of patients with tumor diameter ≥2 cm, tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ, and lymph node metastasis was higher than that in patients with tumor diameter <2 cm, TNM stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ, and no lymph node metastasis (all P<0.05). The relative expression level of miR-1243 in PTC tissues of patients with TNM stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ and lymph node metastasis was lower than that in patients with TNM stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ and no lymph node metastasis (all P<0.05). There was no significant correlation between the expression of miR-1243 and lncRNA HULC in PTC tissues ( r=0.129, P=0.167). All patients were followed up for 12 months, and 20 patients had postoperative recurrence. The proportion of TNM stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ in recurrent patients was 70.00%(14/20), which was higher than that in non-recurrent patients [29.17%(28/96), P<0.05], and the relative expression level of miR-1243 was lower than that in non-recurrent patients ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the relative expression level of lncRNA HULC between recurrent and non-recurrent patients ( P>0.05). The area under the ROC curve of miR-1243 relative expression level in predicting postoperative recurrence of PTC patients was 0.809(95% CI: 0.711-0.907, P<0.05), with a cut-off value of 1.17, sensitivity of 65.00% and specificity of 87.50%. Conclusions:The expression of miR-1243 is down-regulated and lncRNA HULC is up-regulated in PTC tissues, and both are related to clinicopathological features such as lymph node metastasis and TNM stage. Among them, the expression of miR-1243 is related to postoperative recurrence.
