BACKGROUND:U937 cells can be used as a cell model for studying the biological characteristics,signaling pathways,and therapeutic targets of acute myeloid leukemia.Although it has been reported that long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 is highly expressed in acute myeloid leukemia,its biological function in U937 cells remains unclear,and its mechanism of action in the occurrence and development of acute myeloid leukemia needs to be further clarified. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the expression level of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 in peripheral blood of patients with acute myeloid leukemia and its effect on the proliferation and apoptosis of U937 cells. METHODS:RNA-sequencing was used to analyze the bone marrow monocyte samples from acute myeloid leukemia patients,and the differentially expressed gene long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 was screened.The expression of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 in peripheral blood of patients with acute myeloid leukemia was detected by qRT-PCR.The relationship between long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 mRNA expression and prognosis in bone marrow cells of 173 acute myeloid leukemia patients and 70 healthy people was statistically analyzed by GEPIA database.Subsequently,recombinant lentivirus technology and CRISPR/Cas9-SAM technology were used to construct U937 cell lines with knockdown/overexpression of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125.qRT-PCR was used to detect the knockdown/overexpression efficiency of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125.Next,CCK-8 assay,flow cytometry,and western blot assay were used to detect the effects of knockdown/overexpression of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 on the proliferation and apoptosis of U937 cells.Finally,western blot assay was used to detect the effect of knockdown/overexpressed long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 on Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway-related proteins. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The results of qRT-PCR showed that long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 was highly expressed in peripheral blood of acute myeloid leukemia patients.The results of GEPIA database showed that long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 was highly expressed in bone marrow cells of acute myeloid leukemia patients,and the high expression group had worse overall survival.(2)The knockdown efficiency of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 in knockdown group was 70%,and the U937 cells that stably down-regulated long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 expression were successfully constructed.The expression of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 in overexpression group was four times that of vector group,and stable U937 cells were successfully constructed.(3)Knockdown of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 inhibited the proliferation of U937 cells and promoted their apoptosis.Overexpression of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 promoted the proliferation of U937 cells but had no significant effect on the apoptosis of U937 cells.(4)Knockdown of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 inhibited the activity of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway,while overexpression of long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.These results confirm that long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 is highly expressed in acute myeloid leukemia peripheral blood.Long non-coding RNA KIAA0125 may affect the proliferation and apoptosis of U937 cells by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway,and may be a potential prognostic marker for acute myeloid leukemia.

Objective:To investigate the impact of short-term exposure to atmospheric pollutants on the number of acute stroke daily admissions in Taiyuan, China.Methods:The case data of patients with stroke from three large hospitals in different regions of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019 were collected. The daily average concentrations of atmospheric pollutants and meteorological data in Taiyuan during the same period were collected. Spearman rank correlation was used to analyze the correlation between meteorological factors and atmospheric pollutants, and a generalized additive model (GAM) based on time series research and analysis was used to investigate the impact and lag effect of air pollutants on the number of stroke daily admissions. Stratified analysis was performed based on different genders and ages (≤64 years, 65-74 years, and ≥75 years).Results:Between 2018 and 2019, a total of 4 921 patients with acute stroke were collected from three large hospitals, with a daily average of 6.74 stroke admissions. Among them, 4 310 patients (87.6%) had ischemic stroke, 521 (10.6%) had cerebral hemorrhage, and 90 (1.8%) had subarachnoid hemorrhage. GAM analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between short-term exposure to PM 2.5, PM 10, and SO 2 and the number of stroke daily admissions. All three had a significant impact on the number of stroke daily admissions on the day of onset and 3 days later. The maximum effect value was reached on the day of onset, and when the average concentrations of PM 2.5, PM 10, and SO 2 increase by 10 μg/m 3, the number of stroke daily admissions increased by 1.48% (95% confidence interval [ CI] 0.46%-2.53%), 0.80% (95% CI 0.25%-1.36%), and 2.80% (95% CI 0.76%-4.88%), respectively. Stratified analysis showed that exposure to PM 2.5, PM 10, SO 2, and CO had a more significant impact on the number of stroke daily admissions in male patients, while only PM 10 showed positive results in females. Age stratified analysis showed that PM 2.5 significantly increased the number of stroke daily admissions in individuals aged ≥75 years. Conclusion:Short-term exposure to atmospheric pollutants (PM 2.5, PM 10, SO 2, and CO) will to some extent increase the number of stroke daily admissions among residents of Taiyuan, especially among males and those aged ≥75 years.

Objective:To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic factors of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) with initial surgical resection.Methods:The retro-spective cohort study was conducted. The clinicopathological data of 847 GIST patients who under-went initial surgical resection in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020 were collected. There were 405 males and 442 females, aged (60±10)years. Measurement data with normal distribution were represented as Mean± SD, and comparison between groups was conducted using the t test. Measurement data with skewed distribution were represented as M(range). Count data were described as absolute numbers or percentages, and comparison between groups was conducted using the chi-square test. Comparison of ordinal data was conducted using the nonparameter rank sum test. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate survival rates. Univariate analysis was conducted using the Log-rank test. Multivariate analysis was conducted using the COX regression model. Results:(1) Clinicopatholo-gical characteristics. Of 847 patients, the tumor primary location was stomach in 585 cases, jejunum and ileum in 142 cases, duodenum in 76 cases, colorectum in 10 cases, esophagus in 3 cases, and extra-gastrointestinal in 31 cases. There were 13 cases with liver metastasis and 22 cases with abdominal metastasis. The tumor maximum diameter was (7±5)cm, and the number of nuclear divisions was 4(range, 0-60) cells/50 high-power field or 5 mm 2. According to risk classification of National Institutes of Health (NIH), 31 cases were of extremely low risk, 238 cases were of low risk, 213 cases were of moderate risk, 365 cases were of high risk. There were 839 of 847 patients positive for CD117, 788 cases positive for Dog-1, 710 cases positive for CD34, respectively. There were 272 cases with Ki-67 <5%, 214 cases with Ki-67 of 5%- 9%, 198 cases with Ki-67 ≥10%, 163 cases with missing data. R 0 resection was in 814 cases and non-R 0 resection was in 33 cases. (2) Gene testing and postoperative adjuvant therapy of GIST patients. ① Gene testing. Of 847 patients, 424 underwent genetic testing. The proportion of genetic testing was 1.89%(1/53) in 2011, 9.76%(8/82) in 2012, 8.45%(6/71) in 2013, 15.66%(13/83) in 2014, 50.00%(40/80) in 2015, 55.26%(42/76) in 2016, 73.86%(65/88) in 2017, 68.27%(71/104) in 2018, 80.65%(75/93) in 2019, 88.03%(103/117) in 2020, respectively. Of 424 with genetic testing, 338 cases had KIT mutation, 31 cases had PDGFRA mutation, 55 cases were wild type. ② Adjuvant therapy. Of 847 patients, 253 patients underwent postoperative adjuvant therapy. The proportions of postoperative adjuvant therapy were 8.82%(21/238), 41.78%(89/213), 39.18%(143/365) in patients of low risk, moderate risk, high risk. Of 578 patients with moderate to high risk, the proportion of postoperative adjuvant therapy was 15.15%(5/33) in 2011, 14.71%(10/68)in 2012, 22.45%(11/49) in 2013, 29.09%(16/55) in 2014, 41.38%(24/58) in 2015, 46.15%(24/52) in 2016, 32.81%(21/64)in 2017, 60.00%(45/75) in 2018, 60.42%(29/48) in 2019, 61.84%(47/76) in 2020, respectively. Of 253 patients underwent postoperative adjuvant therapy, 247 cases received imatinib had 6 cases received sunitinib. (3) Comparison of clinicopathological characteristics of GIST with non-gastric origin and gastric origin. Of 847 patients, 262 cases had non-gastric origin and 585 cases had gastric origin. There were significant differences in gender, the number of tumor, tumor maximum diameter, Ki-67 index, risk classification of NIH, and R 0 resection between the two groups ( χ2=8.62, 8.40, 12.97, 6.57, Z=-6.15, χ2=17.19, P<0.05). (4) Analysis of influencing factors for recurrence-free survival rate in GIST patients. Results of multivariate analysis showed that the year of initial diagnosis, primary site, tumor maximum diameter, mitotic image, risk classification of NIH, R 0 resection, genetic testing and postoperative adjuvant therapy were independent factors influencing recurrence-free survival rate in GIST patients with initial surgical resection ( hazard ratio=0.58, 0.61, 2.00, 1.71, 5.81, 2.56, 0.65, 0.38, 95% confidence interval as 0.39-0.85, 0.45-0.83, 1.46-2.74, 1.24-2.35, 3.16-10.69, 1.63-4.02, 0.46-0.94, 0.25-0.56, P<0.05). Conclusions:GIST with initial surgical resection is common located in stomach, with high positive rate in CD117 and Dog-1. The number of people undergoing genetic testing and targeted therapy for GIST is increasing year by year. There are significant differ-ences in clinicopathological characteristics between GIST with non-gastric origin and gastric origin. The year of initial diagnosis, primary site, tumor maximum diameter, mitotic image, risk classifica-tion of NIH, R 0 resection, genetic testing and postoperative adjuvant therapy are independent factors influencing recurrence-free survival rate in GIST patients with initial surgical resection.

Objective To investigate the expression of serum CC chemokine ligand 2(CCL2),CX3C chemokine ligand 1(CX3CL1)and CXC chemokine ligand 10(CXCL10)in postmenopausal osteoporosis(PMOP)patients and the value of combination with fracture risk assessment tool(FRAX)in predicting fracture occurrence.Methods A total of 120 patients with PMOP admitted to Hainan West Central Hospital from January 2022 to June 2023 were selected,and they were divided into fracture group(n=52)and non-fracture group(n=68).According to the FRAX score examination,they were divided into a high-risk fracture group(n=73)and a low-risk fracture group(n=47).The levels of serum CCL2,CX3CL1 and CXCL10 in each group were compared.Multivariate Logistic regression was used to analyze the fracture risk factors in PMOP patients.ROC curve was drawn to analyze the value of CCL2,CX3CL1 and CXCL10 combined with FRAX score in predicting fracture of PMOP.Results The levels of serum CCL2(134.98±32.24 pg/ml),CX3CL1(186.25±41.60 pg/ml)and CXCL10(223.47±56.43 pg/ml)in the fracture group were higher than those in the non-fracture group(82.26±17.30 pg/ml,105.23±23.78 pg/ml,151.47±43.14 pg/ml),and the differences were statistically significant(t=11.503,13.452,7.923,all P＜0.001).The levels of serum CCL2(119.70±37.56 pg/ml),CX3CL1(161.43±53.79 pg/ml)and CXCL10(204.06±61.41pg/ml)in the high-risk group for fractures were higher than those in the low-risk group(82.43±17.23 pg/ml,107.55±24.75 pg/ml,149.45±42.50pg/ml),and the differences were statistically significant(t=6.377,6.436,5.327,all P＜0.001).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that elevated levels of serum CCL2,CX3CL1 and CXCL10 were risk factors for fractures in PMOP patients.The ROC curve showed that the combination of CCL2,CX3CL1 and CXCL10 combined with FRAX scores predicted the highest AUC(95％CI)for PMOP fractures[0.951(0.892～0.993)],with sensitivity and specificity of 98.2％and 85.6％,respectively.Conclusion The increased levels of serum CCL2,CX3CL1 and CXCL10 are risk factors for fracture in PMOP patients,and the combination with FRAX score has a good predictive value for fracture.

Objective To explore the causal relationship between social stress and tinnitus onset using a two-sample Mendelian randomization approach. Methods Genetic data pertaining to social stress and tinnitus were extracted from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) databases. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) that were independent and strongly correlated with social stress were selected as instrumental variables, with tinnitus serving as the outcome variable. Mendelian randomization analyses were performed using inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, weighted median method, and Mendelian randomization-Egger regression. The intercept term from Mendelian randomization-Egger regression was utilized to assess horizontal pleiotropy, Cochran's Q statistic was employed to evaluate heterogeneity, and leave-one-out analysis was conducted for sensitivity assessment. Results The social stress dataset encompassed 459, 742 samples, while the tinnitus dataset comprised 117, 882 samples. A total of 10 SNPs tightly associated with social stress were identified as instrumental variables. The analysis results of random-effects inverse variance weighting (IVW), weighted median method, and Mendelian randomization-Egger regression were similar (OR=1.251, 1.274, 1.438), indicating that social stress was a risk factor for tinnitus, and there was a positive causal effect between them, with no heterogeneity or pleiotropy in the results. Conclusion There is a causal relationship between social stress and tinnitus onset, which may offer novel perspectives for the clinical prevention and treatment of tinnitus in the future.

In recent years, the incidence of myopia in adolescents has been increasing year by year, and how to effectively control the development of myopia has become a research hotspot in the field of public health.The orthokeratology lens has been widely used in myopia control because of its great safety, reliability, and little impact on daily life.The cornea after overnight orthokeratology lens wear can be divided into a relatively flat central treatment zone and a steep peripheral defocus zone.Decentration of the treatment zone is common in clinical practice and is mainly located in the inferior temporal quadrant.Studies have shown that the greater the asymmetry of the anterior corneal surface, the greater the degree of myopia at baseline, and the smaller the diameter of the lens, the greater the deviation of the treatment zone.In addition, decentration of the treatment zone is also related to the gravity of the lens, Bell phenomenon, eyelid, and so on.Large decentration of the treatment zone results in decreased visual quality, including clinical symptoms such as ghosting vision and glare, which may be caused by the increase in comatic aberration.Decentration of the treatment zone may have better myopia control, due to the increase of defocus in the pupil area.Obvious decentration of the treatment zone can be solved by increasing the sagittal height, adjusting the alignment curve, increasing the lens diameter and switching to toric lenses, etc.This article reviewed the factors that affect the decentration of the treatment zone after overnight orthokeratology wear, the influence of decentration on visual quality and myopia control, and the methods to help solve the problems caused by the decentration of the treatment zone, which can guide fitting and replacement of orthokeratology lenses.

Objective:To investigate the diagnostic value of serum CircRNA_0048211 expression level in postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) and its correlation with bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP), osteopontin (OPN), procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide (PINP) and β-crosslaps (β-CTX). Methods:Data of postmenopausal women who underwent physical examination in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2021 were collected. All subjects were measured bone mineral density (BMD) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and divided into PMOP group, decreased bone mass group and normal bone mass group according to BMD level. The serum CircRNA_0048211, BALP, OPN, PINP and β-CTX levels were compared in each group. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of PMOP, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was drawn to analyze the diagnostic value of CircRNA_0048211, BALP, OPN, PINP and β-CTX on PMOP. The correlation between CircRNA_0048211 expression level and BALP, OPN, PINP and β-CTX was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis. Results:A total of 218 patients were included in this study. Age is 60.52±6.83 years (range, 47-76 years), body mass index is 24.27±2.28 kg/m 2 (range, 22.18-25.73 kg/m 2) and menopausal time is 10.16±4.25 years (range, 2.30-21.80 years). There were 40 cases in PMOP group, 97 cases in osteopenia group and 81 cases in normal bone mass group. The serum CircRNA_ 0048211, BALP, OPN, PINP and β-CTX was significantly different between PMOP group, osteopenia group and normal group ( F=21.15, P<0.001; F=12.52, P<0.001; F=17.86, P<0.001; F=14.32, P<0.001; F=15.52, P<0.001). The serum CircRNA_0048211 level in PMOP group (0.37±0.08) were significantly lower than that of osteopenia group (1.05±0.46) and normal bone mass group (1.73±0.81), the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). The levels of BALP (28.42±7.35 μg/L), OPN (17.28±7.30 ng/ml), PINP (58.40±14.37 ng/ml) and β-CTX (1.52±0.28 μg/L) in PMOP group were significantly higher than those in osteopenia group (22.61±5.93 μg/L, 11.95±5.64 ng/ml, 49.16±11.24 ng/ml, 0.81±0.17 μg/L) and normal bone mass group (16.30±4.18 μg/L, 7.62±3.25 ng/ml, 35.48±7.12 ng/ml, 0.37±0.10 μg/L), the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that decreased CircRNA_0048211 expression level [ OR=3.53, 95% CI (2.73, 10.32)] was a risk factor for the occurrence of PMOP ( P<0.001). ROC curve showed that CircRNA_0048211≤0.76 has a diagnostic significance on PMOP, and its combination of BALP, OPN, PINP and β-CTX has the highest AUC [0.95, 95% CI (0.89, 1.00)] in diagnosing PMOP. Correlation analysis showed that CircRNA_0048211 expression level were negatively correlated with BALP, OPN, PINP and β-CTX ( r=-0.46, P<0.001; r=-0.80, P<0.001; r=-0.81, P<0.001; r=-0.69, P<0.001). Conclusion:The CircRNA_0048211 showed low expression in PMOP, which was negatively correlated with BALP, OPN, PINP and β-CTX. The combination of these five factors has certain clinical value in the diagnosis of PMOP.

{L-End}Objective To estimate the number of workers with occupational noise-induced hearing loss (ONHL) in the manufacturing industry of China in 2020. {L-End}Methods Multiple data sources were integrated to collect information on workers in the manufacturing industry from the Occupational Diseases and Hazards Monitoring Information System under China Disease Prevention and Control Information System. The total number of workers was split based on age from the 2018 Fourth National Economic Census and the 2020 National Survey of Occupational Disease Hazards. Additionally, data on the prevalence of hearing loss in the general population was adjusted based on the age composition of Jilin Province, and noise prevalence was standardized based on the age composition of the employed population in the Seventh National Population Censu. Attribution fractions (AF) was estimated. The prevalence ratio (PR) was calculated by the prevalence of hearing loss in the occupational noise-exposed workers and general population. The proportion and attributable cases (AC) of ONHL cases in all hearing loss cases were estimated for occupational noise-exposed workers. The number of ONHL was estimated based on AF and the total number of workers with hearing loss. {L-End}Results In 2020, a total of 30 059 525 workers were exposed to occupational noise in the manufacturing industry in China, with noise-exposed prevalence and standardized noise-exposed prevalence of 28.94% and 28.52%, respectively. The prevalence of hearing loss among occupational noise-exposed workers increased with age, and a total of 8 054 789 workers suffered from hearing loss. Most of the cases were at the age between 45-<55 years old. The total PR and 95% uncertainty interval (UI) was 2.83 (2.58-3.06) and the total AF and 95%UI was 64.63% (61.22%-67.30%), and both peaks were in the age of 30-<45 years. The AC and 95%UI was 5 205 980 (4 930 620-5 420 345) persons, and most of the cases were at the age between 40-<55 years. {L-End}Conclusion Occupational noise poses a serious threat to the hearing health of workers in the manufacturing industry of China, especially among middle-aged and young adults.

ObjectiveTo investigate the protective effect of modified Huangqi Guizhi Wuwutang （MHGW） on endoplasmic reticulum stress in the sciatic nerve of diabetes rats based on the pathways of inositol-requiring enzyme 1α （IRE1α） and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein homologous protein （CHOP）. MethodSixty rats were fed on a high-sugar and high-fat diet for six weeks， followed by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at a dose of 35 mg·kg^-1. Random blood glucose levels were measured three days later and rats with a sustained blood glucose level ≥ 16.7 mmol·L^-1 were included in study （n=48）. The rats were randomly divided into a model group， an α-lipoic acid group （0.026 8 g·kg^-1·d^-1）， a high-dose MHGW group （2.5 g·kg^-1·d^-1）， and a low-dose MHGW group （1.25 g·kg^-1·d^-1）. Another 10 rats were assigned to the normal group. The intervention lasted for 16 weeks. After 16 weeks， the sciatic nerve structure of the rats in each group was observed under light microscopy using Luxol fast blue （LFB） staining. Transmission electron microscopy was used to observe the ultrastructure of the sciatic nerve. Chemiluminescence method was employed to measure the serum reactive oxygen species （ROS） levels. Western blot and real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction （Real-time PCR） were used to evaluate the expression of p-IRE1α protein， IRE1α mRNA， CHOP protein， and CHOP mRNA in the sciatic nerve of the rats. ResultCompared with the normal group， the model group showed elevated serum ROS levels （P<0.01）. In contrast， the serum ROS levels were significantly reduced in the treatment groups compared with those in the model group （P<0.01）. The sciatic nerve of the model group showed pathological changes compared with that in the normal group， while the treatment groups exhibited improvement in sciatic nerve pathology compared with the model group. The protein expression of p-IRE1α and CHOP in the sciatic nerve significantly increased in the model group as compared with that in the normal group （P<0.01）. However， the treatment groups showed a significant decrease in the protein expression of p-IRE1α and CHOP in the sciatic nerve compared with the model group （P<0.05， P<0.01）. Furthermore， compared with the normal group， the model group showed upregulated mRNA expression of IRE1α and CHOP in the sciatic nerve （P<0.01）， while the treatment groups exhibited a significant decrease in the mRNA expression of IRE1α and CHOP compared with the model group （P<0.01）. ConclusionMHGW can alleviate endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced cell apoptosis and improve the structure and function of the sciatic nerve in diabetes rats by inhibiting the expression of IRE1α/CHOP pathway-related proteins and mRNA， thereby preventing and treating peripheral neuropathy in diabetes.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of modified Huangqi Guizhi Wuwutang （MHGW） on the protein and mRNA expression of B-cell lymphoma-2-associated X protein （Bax） and cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase-12 （Caspase-12） related to the apoptosis of sciatic nerve cells in diabetes rats to explore the mechanism of MHGW in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy in diabetes. MethodAnimal experiments were conducted. A diabetes model was induced in sixty male sprague-dawley （SD） rats by feeding on a high-sugar and high-fat diet combined with streptozotocin （STZ） intraperitoneal injection. Rats with random blood glucose levels ≥ 16.7 mmol·L^-1 for three consecutive days were considered to have successfully developed diabetes. Forty-eight rats that successfully developed diabetes were randomly divided into a model group， an α-lipoic acid group （0.026 8 g·kg^-1·d^-1）， a high-dose MHGW group （2.5 g·kg^-1·d^-1）， and a low-dose MHGW group （1.25 g·kg^-1·d^-1）， with 12 rats in each group. Another 10 rats were assigned to the normal group. Body weight and random blood glucose levels of the rats were monitored. At the end of a 16-week intervention period， the sciatic nerve conduction velocity of the rats was measured using the Key point electromyography collection system. The protein and mRNA expression of Bax and Caspase-12 in the sciatic nerve cells was detected by Western blot analysis and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction （Real-time PCR）， respectively. ResultCompared with the normal group， the model group showed a significant decrease in body weight （P<0.01） and a significant increase in random blood glucose levels （P<0.01）. After a 16-week intervention， compared with the model group， the high-dose MHGW group exhibited a significant increase in body weight （P<0.05）， while there were no statistically significant differences in body weight changes among the other treatment groups. Random blood glucose levels significantly decreased in all treatment groups （P<0.01）. After 16 weeks of intervention， compared with the normal group， the model group had significantly reduced motor and sensory nerve conduction velocities （P<0.01）. Compared with the model group， all treatment groups showed significant increases in motor and sensory nerve conduction velocities （P<0.05， P<0.01）. The expression of Bax and Caspase-12 proteins in the sciatic nerve cells was significantly elevated in the model group compared with that in the normal group （P<0.01）. In contrast， all treatment groups showed significant reductions in the expression of Bax and Caspase-12 proteins in the sciatic nerve cells as compared with that in the model group （P<0.01）. The expression of Bax and Caspase-12 mRNA in the sciatic nerve cells significantly increased in the model group compared with that in the normal group （P<0.01）. Compared with the model group， the α-lipoic acid group and the high-dose MHGW group showed significant reductions in the expression of Bax mRNA in the sciatic nerve cells （P<0.05， P<0.01）， while the low-dose MHGW group showed a decreasing trend in the expression of Bax mRNA. The expression of Caspase-12 mRNA in the sciatic nerve cells significantly decreased in all treatment groups （P<0.01）. ConclusionMHGW may improve and repair sciatic nerve damage in diabetes rats by inhibiting sciatic nerve cell apoptosis.
