Digestive system tumors account for more than half of all malignant tumors in terms of incidence and mortality, and thus pose a serious threat to human health.Haptoglobin(Hp)is an acute-phase glycoprotein that is elevated in both plasma and tumor tissues in various clinical conditions, including different types of cancer, such as liver, gastric, colorectal, pancreatic, and gallbladder cancer.Numerous studies have indicated that Hp plays a significant role in the prognosis of cancer patients, highlighting its potential as a prognostic marker for gastrointestinal tumors, with important clinical applications.Despite its demonstrated crucial role in the development of various tumors, however, the specific mechanisms of Hp in gastrointestinal tumors remain controversial. This review considers the differential expression and clinical significance of Hp in the five major types of gastrointestinal tumors,to explore its role in different stages of cancer progression and prognosis. This review thus aims to provide reliable and accurate serum biomarkers for the screening, early diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis monitoring of gastrointestinal tumors, with important implications for predicting the survival and prognosis of cancer patients.

Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases 2024;41(3):270-275
Objective To explore the value of serum homocysteine(HCY) and cystatin C (Cys-C) levels for evaluating the presence and severity of cognitive impairment in elderly patients with both cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).Methods A retrospective study was performed on 150 elderly patients with both CSVD and OSAHS who were treated in our hospital from January to December 2020. The data about HCY and Cys-C levels were collected. According to the presence or absence of cognitive impairment, they were divided into observation group (with cognitive impairment, 41 cases) and control group (without cognitive impairment, 109 cases). The serum HCY and Cys-C levels of the two groups were compared. The correlations between serum HCY and Cys-C levels and cognitive impairment in patients with both CSVD and OSAHS were analyzed. A binary Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine independent factors affecting cognitive impairment to establish a predictive logistic regression model. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to examine the predictive value of HCY, Cys-C, and their combination for cognitive impairment in patients with both CSVD and OSAHS. According to the severity of cognitive impairment, the patients in the observation group were further divided into mild cognitive impairment group (32 cases) and severe cognitive impairment group (9 cases) to compare HCY and Cys-C levels and analyze the value of HCY, Cys-C, and their combination in evaluating the staging of cognitive impairment by using ROC curves. Results The levels of HCY and Cys-C in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (both P<0.05). The total score of Montreal Cognitive Assessment was negatively correlated with serum HCY and Cys-C level (r=-0.756, -0.713, both P<0.001). The logistic regression analysis showed that HCY and Cys-C levels were independent influencing factors for cognitive impairment (both P<0.05). The area under the curve (AUC) of HCY plus Cys-C for prediction was 0.843(0.747-0.934), which was higher than that of any single indicator (P < 0.05), with the sensitivity and specificity being 89.32% and 79.25%, respectively. The levels of HCY and Cys-C were significantly lower in the patients with mild cognitive impairment than in those with severe cognitive impairment (both P < 0.05). The AUC of HCY plus Cys-C in cognitive impairment staging was 0.925(0.849-0.976), which was higher than that of any single index (P < 0.05). The sensitivity and specificity were 95.67% and 89.67%, respectively. Conclusion Serum HCY and Cys-C levels are negatively correlated with the development and progression of cognitive impairment in elderly patients with both CSVD and OSAHS. The combined prediction with the two indicators can facilitate the evaluation of the risk and stage of cognitive impairment.

Objective:To report embryonic testicular regression syndrome(ETRS) caused by DHX37 heterozygous variant for the first time in China and summarize the clinical manifestations of ETRS as to improve the understanding of doctors for this disease. Methods:The clinical data and whole exome sequencing results of five cases of ETRS from Shenzhen Children′s Hospital were collected. The reported cases of DHX37 heterozygous variant were reviewed. Results:Five patients with ETRS visited the doctors at the age of 2 months to 5 years and 5 months. Three patients raised as males came to hospital due to virilition and 2 female patients visited a doctor due to clitoral hypertrophy. No uterus was detected by ultrasound in all patients. The gonadal pathologies from 4 cases displayed no testicular tissue or gonadal dysgenesis, complicated with gonadoblastoma in one case. The genetic testing revealed that the heterozygous variant(c.923G>A, p. R308Q) in DHX37 was found in 2 cases, without variant in other 3 cases. According to the review, ETRS and 46, XY gonadal dysgenesis due to DHX37 herozygous variant was firstly reported in 2019. A total of 40 cases, including 21 cases of ETRS, presented with the virilition or female phenotype, with the disappearance of testicular tissue as the main pathologies. There is no report in China. Conclusion:The article summarized the clinical manifestations and whole exome sequencing results of 5 patients with ETRS, among which two cases were caused by DHX37 variants and one was complicated with gonadoblastoma.

Chinese Journal of Experimental and Clinical Virology 2019;33(5):509-512
Objective:
To identify the etiology and source of infection in a diarrhea outbreak in Yunnan in May 2017 and to provide the evidence for formulating prevention and control measures.
Methods:
Epidemiological investigation was carried out on the epidemic situation of diarrhea in the village of Lvchun County in Yunnan Province, the field sampling, laboratory testing and data analysis were also performed.
Results:
Among the 44 patients, 11 of the 13 samples were positive for rotavirus nucleic acid in group A, and the positive rate was 84.62%. The survey showed that the water supply pipe was damaged and polluted by human and livestock manure and domestic sewage. The trend of the damaged water pipe was basically the same as the case distribution, and the rainfall was significantly related to the number of the disease.
Conclusions
This event was an outbreak of diarrhea caused by group A rotavirus. The direct pollution of drinking water caused by rainfall may be the risk factor of this outbreak. The health management of rural drinking water should be strengthened and the health knowledge and education of preventing intestinal infectious diseases should be promoted.

Objective To study the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of torsion of testes in newborn. Method Neonates who were diagnosed with neonatal testicular torsion and admitted to Shenzhen Children's Hospital from March 2008 to July 2018 were studied. The clinical data such as days in age, time of onset, clinical manifestations, time of ultrasound examination, characteristics of ultrasound examination, surgery time, surgical types, postoperative conditions, pathological findings, and follow-up results were retrospectively analyzed. Result A total of 12 infants with torsion of testes were enrolled. The average onset time was 2.9 d, ranged from 1~10 d. The time of onset was within 24 h after birth in six infants. The median duration from onset to seeing a doctor was 3.5 d, ranged from 2 h to 28 d. First manifestations being reported grammer were scrotal swelling or mass, including 7 cases on the left side and 5 cases on the right side. Among them, 9 cases were associated with redness or cyanosis of the scrotum. Ultrasound was characterized by the disappearance or significant reduction of testicular parenchymal blood flow signal, and the sensitivity of ultrasound was 100%. The average time from admission to operation was (2.1±1.1) h. All the 12 infants had orchiectomy, after necrosis of unilateral testicle was confirmed. Eight of them underwent contralateral test icular fixation. The average operation time was 46 min. There was no wound bleeding or infection postoperatively, and the average hospital stay was 6.4 d. The pathological features were blurred residual contour of the seminiferous tubule (9 cases) or the disappearance of the seminiferous tubule structure (3 cases). After 3 to 24 months of follow-up, no contralateral testicular torsion or atrophy was found. Conclusion The rate of testicular necrosis in children with torsion of testes is high. The newborn with scrotal swelling should be diagnosed promptly with color Doppler ultrasound. If necessary, surgical exploration should be performed in time.
