2.Musculoskeletal discomfort during COVID-19 pandemic lockdown among the faculty members in selected schools in Mega Manila and Metro Cebu: A cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND
The COVID-19 pandemic brought insurmountable changes, leading to work demands and resource limitations that placed additional physical and occupational stress.
OBJECTIVESThis study aimed to determine the change in the occurrence and intensity of musculoskeletal discomfort among selected university faculty members. It also determined the association of sociodemographic and anthropometric factors, workplace conditions, and involvement in physical activity with musculoskeletal pain.
METHODSThis is an analytical cross-sectional study conducted from June 2022 to May 2023 that surveyed university faculty members from Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. Outcome measures include sociodemographic data, anthropometric measures of weight, height, body mass index, workplace conditions, exercise participation, and musculoskeletal discomfort using the Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire.
RESULTSData from 120 participants, mostly female, with an average BMI of 27.78 ± 12.09 kg/m2 and 11.82 ± 10.39 years of teaching experience revealed increased computer usage and reduced teaching hours during the Pandemic lockdown. There was also prevalent musculoskeletal discomfort (MSD), particularly in the neck, shoulder, and upper back. Factors associated with increased MSD were female gender, longer computer use, and pre pandemic MSD history.
CONCLUSIONThis study underscores the significance of addressing ergonomic factors and work conditions to mitigate MSD risks among educators during challenging situations.

BACKGROUND
Heart rate variability (HRV) is a common tool for assessing autonomic nervous system activity and monitoring training load in athletes. However, limited research has explored how HRV responds to different forms of resistance training, particularly in high-intensity intermittent sports like basketball and football.
OBJECTIVEThis study aims to compare the acute HRV responses between neuromuscular and metabolic training in collegiate athletes involved in high-intensity intermittent sports.
STUDY DESIGNA comparative cross-sectional study with a quasi-experimental crossover design will be employed.
METHODSCollegiate athletes will be randomly assigned to undergo both neuromuscular and metabolic training sessions with a one-week wash-out period in between. HRV data will be recorded using the Polar H10 chest strap during each session.
DATA ANALYSISDescriptive statistics will summarize salient participant characteristics and HRV measurements. Inferential analysis will use paired t-tests or Wilcoxon signed-rank tests based on normality, assessed via the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. All statistical analyses will be conducted using the IBM SPSS (ver.25) with a confidence interval set. at 95% and a critical α equal to 0.05.
EXPECTED RESULTSNeuromuscular training is expected to elicit higher low-frequency (LF) power and an increased LF/HF ratio, reflecting greater sympathetic activation, while metabolic training is expected to show lower LF power and a decreased LF/HF ratio, indicating a more balanced autonomic response. These findings will offer insights into the differential autonomic impacts of these training modalities.

BACKGROUND
Recovery is essential for high-intensity intermittent sports athletes to achieve optimal performance. Heart rate variability (HRV) serves as a marker of the autonomic nervous system, which also measures the parasympathetic regulation that facilitates recovery. Neurofeedback (NBF) intervention, combined with deep breathing and mental imagery, presented positive results in facilitating parasympathetic reactivation. However, limited studies exist in investigating the influence of the NBF intervention on HRV parameters and recovery, specifically in high-intensity intermittent sports athletes.
OBJECTIVEThis pilot study aims to investigate the effects and influence of neurobiofeedback intervention on recovery via the use of HRV of UAAP Collegiate Basketball and Football Athletes.
STUDY DESIGNThe research will be done with a Quasi-experimental onegroup pretest-posttest study design.
METHODOLOGYParticipants will undergo a neurobiofeedback intervention following neuromuscular and metabolic training. Data is collected with a Polar H10 HRM Chest Strap connected to an Elite HRV monitoring application and will be analyzed by Kubios HRV software.
STATISTICAL ANALYSISDescriptive statistics will be computed for participant characteristics. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (p >0.05) will assess normality. Two-way repeated-measures ANOVAs will examine NBF effects across exercise types, with Bonferroni-corrected pairwise comparisons and trend analysis for the main effects and non-significant but clinically relevant patterns. All analyses will be done using SPSS v25.
EXPECTED RESULTSIt is expected that the neurobiofeedback intervention will have an effect and influence by eliciting a lower LF/HF ratio and SD1/SD2, suggesting a facilitated reactivation of the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting recovery after undergoing neuromuscular or metabolic training.

of Artificial Intelligence (AI) among the
manuscripts that we review. The default answer
is general prohibition. In fact, previously, PJAHS
made a stand forbidding AI (i.e., ChatGPT) as an
author of the articles we handle and publish.1
Since then, other Generative AI (Gen-AI) has
been proliferated, further challenging the status
quo on the use of Gen-AI in research and how
publishing science approaches this issue.

Objective:
Our study aims to establish interrater reliability in performing the step-by-step procedure of selected pain provocation tests for hamstrings and special tests for lower extremity musculoskeletal injuries.
Study Design:
An interrater reliability study
Setting:
University of Santo Tomas - Sports Science Laboratory
Participants:
Ten healthy adults (five females, five males; age = 22.2 ± 0.42) from the university community.
Main outcome measures:
Interrater reliability of performing step-by-step procedures for selected pain provocation tests for hamstrings (painful resisted knee flexion 90°, painful resisted knee flexion 30°, active slump test, Puranen-Orava Test, bent knee stretch) and special tests for lower extremity musculoskeletal injuries (Lachman’s test, McMurray’s test, posterior drawer test, valgus, and varus stress test).
Results:
Fleiss kappa showed perfect agreement (κ = 1.00) for all test procedures except for Lachman’s test procedure 1 (κ= -0.11 [95% CI, -0.36 to 0.14]), active slump test procedure 4 (κ= -0.03 [95% CI, -0.28 to 0.23]), active slump test procedure 5 (κ= -0.11 [95% CI, -0.28 to 0.23]), and active slump test procedure 6 (κ= -0.05 [95% CI, -0.31 to 0.20]), which resulted in negative agreements.
Conclusions
The researcher developed protocols for each special and provocative test were consistent in measuring the intended procedures, and the raters were generally consistent with their ability to measure these tests.
8.Psychometric properties of instruments to measure the well-being of young children: A systematic review protocol

Background:
Child well-being is an important outcome and has received attention from researchers for decades. Until recently, there has been
difficulty in drawing conclusions from these studies because of the wide variety of measures used.
Objective:
This systematic review aims to summarize and assess the measurement properties of existing child well-being instruments presented in the literature.
Methods:
This systematic
review will focus on studies that evaluated the psychometric properties of instruments to measure the well-being of children ages two to seven.
The search strategy will aim to locate studies in the English language completed from 2000 to 2023. The databases to be searched include MEDLINE
via PubMed, CINAHL Plus, and Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection via EBSCOhost. Proquest Dissertations and Theses, Google Scholar, and
Research Gate will be used to search unpublished studies. Following the search, all identified citations will be collated in Mendeley. The full text of
selected citations will be uploaded to JBI-SUMARI, assessed in detail against the inclusion criteria, and critically appraised using the COSMIN Risk
of Bias checklist by two independent reviewers. Data will be extracted using JBI-SUMARI by one reviewer and verified by another. Findings will be
reported using a narrative synthesis and tables. If possible, a meta-analysis will be performed. The evidence for each measurement property for
each instrument will be compared against acknowledged standards for appropriate measurement characteristics using the COSMIN-proposed
"criteria for good measurement properties."
Expected Results:
This systematic review will provide further evidence regarding the measurement
properties of instruments used to measure the well-being of children, specifically in the early years. The findings of this study will be disseminated
through a conference presentation and publication in a peer-reviewed journal

9.Occupational therapy dysphagia management in selected Philippine hospitals during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the nature of dysphagia management, the continuation of its delivery by occupational therapists (OTs) during the COVID-19 pandemic is
challenging. The high risk of infection and transmission associated with dysphagia management calls for innovative, safe, and effective strategies.
The purpose of this report is to describe the current practices in dysphagia management by OTs in selected Philippine hospitals. Current practices
include integrated infection control, telehealth, indirect service delivery, use of acrylic barriers, and exercise videos. The effects of the COVID-19
pandemic are shaping the practice of occupational therapy in dysphagia management in the current time and beyond.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a profound effect on the health and well-being of individuals worldwide. In the Philippines, the withstanding quarantine protocols have affected the occupational therapy practice, which has adopted a telehealth strategy. Filipino occupational therapists (OTs) working with children have to infuse concepts of standard precautions of infection control to prevent infection and transmission in their virtual sessions. This innovative practice has been delivered through telehealth services. This case report highlights the importance of family collaboration, activity analysis, evidence utilization, and infusing standard precautions in children’s daily occupations. OTs should consider these “new approaches” in the “new normal” and beyond.
