Objective:
To explore the relationship between snack consumption and depressive symptoms in first year junior high school students with different left behind experiences in Yunnan Province, so as to provide a basis for improving depressive symptoms among first year junior high school students with different left behind experiences.
Methods:
From October to December 2022,a cluster random sampling method was used to select 8 500 first year junior high school students from 11 ethnic minority areas (Fugong County, Longling County, Longyang District, Luchun County, Mojiang County, Nanjian County, Qiaojia County, Shuangjiang County, Tengchong City, Yuanmou County, Zhenyuan County) in Yunnan Province for a questionnaire survey. The Chinese version of Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 was applied to assess depressive symptoms in first year junior high school students, and snack consumption was collected by employing food frequency questionnaire. The generalized linear model was used to analyze the association between first year junior high school students snack consumption and depressive symptoms, and the analysis was stratified according to left behind experience.
Results:
The detection rates of depressive symptoms among firstyear junior high school students with and without left behind experience were 36.25% and 26.91%, respectively. After controlling for confounding variables, the generalized linear model analysis showed that sweet snacks ( β=0.16, 95%CI =0.07-0.25), fast food ( β=0.14, 95%CI =0.04-0.23) and carbonated drinks ( β=0.09, 95%CI =0.01-0.17) of first year junior high school students with left behind experience (all P <0.05). Compared with those without such behavior, the risk of depressive symptoms was higher in consumption of fast food ( β=0.13, 95%CI =0.07-0.18) and carbonated drinks ( β=0.10, 95%CI =0.06-0.15)among first year junior high school students without left behind experience (both P <0.05).
Conclusion
Snack consumption among first year junior high school students in Yunnan may increase the risk of developing depressive symptoms, while first year junior high school students with left behind experience may have a greater risk of developing depressive symptoms.

BACKGROUND:Macrophages play a key role in the occurrence and progression of lung diseases, and autophagy plays an important role in maintaining environmental homeostasis and functional stability in macrophages. It has been suggested that macrophage autophagic activity has two sides in lung inflammatory diseases.OBJECTIVE:To summarize the relationship between macrophage autophagy and lung diseases, thereby providing reference for exploring the prevention and treatment strategies of lung inflammatory diseases by targeting macrophage autophagy.METHODS:Literature retrieval was performed in CNKI and PubMed for relevant literature published from database inception to September 2024.The search terms were"macrophage autophagy, efferocytosis, macrophage polarization, acute lung injury, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma"in Chinese and English, respectively. The search results were included or excluded based on the selection criteria, and 100 papers that met the criteria were finally included in the review.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The obstruction of autophagy flow will induce the polarization imbalance of macrophages and impair their efferocytosis, resulting in the increase of M1 macrophages and aggravating inflammation.(2)The judgment of autophagic activity should be based on whether the autophagy flow is smooth or not,and it is essential to evaluate the degradation ability of autophagy. Some studies failed to comprehensively detect the degradation ability of autophagy lysosomes to assess whether the autophagy flow is unobtrusive. As a result, the so-called two-sided view of pulmonary macrophage autophagy in pulmonary inflammatory diseases in such studies is actually related to the one-sided judgment of autophagy activity.(3)The pathological manifestations vary across different pulmonary diseases and even at different stages of the same disease.Activation of macrophage autophagy plays a positive role in regulating pulmonary inflammatory homeostasis in conditions such as acute lung injury, infectious pneumonia, mild chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,early-stage pulmonary fibrosis, and secondary asthma. However,in the severe fibrotic stage of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the progressive stage of pulmonary fibrosis, the activation of pulmonary macrophage autophagy aggravates pulmonary fibrosis, reflecting the dual nature of macrophage autophagy. In allergic asthma, autophagy is activated in lung-resident macrophages but suppressed in infiltrating monocyte-derived macrophages from circulation. The former is closely related to airway stenosis, and the latter aggravates pneumonia disorders. Therefore, identifying the types and progression stages of lung diseases, along with accurately assessing autophagic activity,is crucial for future investigations into the relationship between macrophage autophagy and disease pathogenesis, thereby facilitating the development of therapeutic strategies in the future.

Objective:To investigate the characteristics of serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) N-glycans in male patients with different subtypes and severity grades of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) .Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on male patients diagnosed with male-pattern hair loss (MPHL) or female-pattern hair loss (FPHL) who attended the Department of Dermatology, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University between June and December 2022. Clinical data were collected, and serum IgG N-glycans were quantitatively analyzed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) . The content of serum IgG N-glycan structures was compared between patients with different AGA subtypes and among patients with different severity grades of MPHL or FPHL, while derived traits were compared between patients with different AGA subtypes. Point-biserial correlation analysis was conducted to assess associations between serum IgG N-glycans and hair loss severity. Results:A total of 85 male patients with AGA were included, comprising 44 MPHL patients and 41 FPHL patients. No significant differences were observed between the two subgroups in terms of age, age at onset, or serum levels of testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, uric acid, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (all P > 0.05) . UPLC showed 23 serum IgG glycans and 5 derived glycan traits (afucosylation, fucosylation, bisecting GlcNAc, terminal galactosylation, and terminal sialylation) . Compared with the MPHL patients, the FPHL patients exhibited significantly increased levels of N-glycans GP5, GP11, GP17, and GP20 (all P < 0.05) , significantly elevated levels of afucosylated IgG N-glycans ( P = 0.047) , but significantly reduced core fucosylated IgG N-glycans ( P = 0.047) . No significant differences in serum IgG N-glycan composition were observed among patients with varying severity grades of MPHL (all P > 0.05) . In the FPHL patients, the levels of N-glycans GP10 ( r = 0.32, P = 0.039) and GP22 ( r = -0.32, P = 0.045) were significantly positively and negatively correlated with hair loss severity respectively; receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that both GP10 and GP22 had moderate diagnostic value for predicting hair loss severity, with the area under the curve values being 0.69 (95% CI: 0.52 - 0.86) and 0.71 (95% CI: 0.55 - 0.86) , respectively. Conclusion:Serum IgG N-glycan profiles differed among male patients with different AGA subtypes, and N-glycans GP10 and GP22 may serve as potential biomarkers for early assessment of hair loss severity in male FPHL patients.
