Aging has emerged as a cutting edge and hotspot in global life science field, with anti-aging and geriatric disease prevention and treatment becoming critical issues urgently demanding solutions in international medical communities. In the face of the challenge of accelerating global population aging, in-depth exploration of aging mechanisms and the development of effective intervention strategies hold significant scientific and clinical value. This study supported by the national key research and development program of China, employed the essence-Qi-spirit theory of Qiluo doctrine as its guiding framework, focusing on the key scientific issue of the core traditional Chinese pathogenesis of aging, namely "depletion of kidney essence, deficiency of primordial Qi, and impairment of body and spirit". The treatment principle of "tonifying the kidney to replenish essence, harmonizing Yin and Yang, warming and invigorating primordial Qi, and nourishing the body and spirit" was established. Centered on holistic aging, systemic aging, and aging-related diseases, the research integrated multidisciplinary research approaches to construct multi-modal aging models and a multi-dimensional evaluation system, and it utilized multi-omics technologies to deeply analyze aging mechanisms. By systematically reviewing historical kidney-tonifying and anti-aging formulas and combining big data with artificial intelligence technologies, an information database of anti-aging traditional Chinese medicine substance was developed to reveal the differences and synergistic effects of various treatment methods and formulas on anti-aging. Based on this treatment method, the research integrated two millennia of kidney-tonifying medicinal experience to develop the innovative anti-aging traditional Chinese medicine, namely Bazhi Bushen capsules. It was validated that this capsule can delay holistic and systemic aging through multiple targets and mechanisms, thereby elucidating the scientific connotation of the essence-Qi-spirit theory of Qiluo doctrine in guiding anti-aging research from multiple dimensions and providing robust support for leveraging the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine to occupy the commanding heights of international anti-aging research.

Cardiac aging is a key factor in the onset and progression of cardiovascular diseases. Investigating the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) pathogenesis and therapeutic principles of cardiac aging is of great importance for curbing the common phenomenon of the heart aging faster than the body and implementing the national strategy in response to population aging. Essence (Jing), Qi, and spirit (Shen) are the origin, driving force, and manifestation of life, respectively. The Essence-Qi-spirit theory within the Qi-collateral doctrine delineates the core pathogenesis and therapeutic principles of aging. This framework identifies kidney essence deficiency as the fundamental cause of aging, with primordial Qi depletion as a key factor and the consumption of body and spirit as its manifestations. Corresponding treatment principles involve tonifying the kidney to replenish essence, warming and supporting primordial Qi, and nourishing the body and spirit. During the process of tonifying the kidney, regulating Yin and Yang remains essential. Relevant studies indicate that this theoretical system provides significant guidance for anti-aging research in TCM. Guided by the Essence-Qi-spirit theory within the Qi-collateral doctrine, this paper posits that kidney essence constitutes the material foundation for cardiac development, and primordial Qi acts as the fundamental driver of cardiac function. Physical form and spirit together provide the structural carrier and functional manifestation of the heart. We further propose the core pathogenesis and therapeutic principles for cardiac aging. The fundamental pathogenesis lies in the deficiency and decline of kidney essence, leading to malnourishment of the heart. The key pathogenesis is the deficiency of primordial Qi, resulting in obstruction of the heart collateral. The manifestation involves the accumulation in the collateral and the dysfunction of the heart spirit. The corresponding treatment principles are tonifying the kidney and replenishing essence to nourish the heart, warming and reinforcing primordial Qi to unblock the heart collateral, and fortifying the physical form to invigorate the spirit mechanism. Existing studies demonstrate that Bazi Bushen Capsules, with the effects of tonifying the kidney, replenishing essence, warming primordial Qi, and fortifying the physical form and spirit, can delay cardiac aging. Guided by the Essence-Qi-spirit theory within the Qi-collateral doctrine, these findings support the development of effective herbal formulas to intervene in cardiac aging.

OBJECTIVES:
Calcium silicate (CSO) is modified to give it photothermal antibacterial properties. Its application potential in tooth mineralization and oral antibacterial is evaluated.
METHODS:
Based on defect-engineering modification strategy, a series of CSO-T samples (CSO-300, CSO-400, CSO-500, CSO-600) was obtained by introducing oxygen vacancy into CSO through thermal reduction using sodium borohydride. The samples were tested using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ultraviolet near-infrared absorption spectroscopy, and infrared thermography. The powder samples with the best photothermal performance and the most suitable material concentration (CSO-500, 500 μg/mL) were selected for subsequent experiments. High resolution transmission electron microscopy was used to analyze the microstructure and morphology of the sample, and MTT assay and Calcein AM/PI live/dead cell staining were used to evaluate the toxicity and compatibility of the sample to human oral keratinocytes. Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were selected for photothermal antibacterial experiments to evaluate their in vitro antibacterial performance. SEM, energy dispersive spectrometer, and micro Vickers hardness tester were used to evaluate the ability of materials to induce in vitro remineralization of detached teeth.
RESULTS:
Oxygen vacancies changed the crystal type and lattice spacing of CaSiO3, broadened the light-absorption range, and gave it a good photothermal conversion ability in response to near infrared. Invitro experiments showed that the modified CaSiO3 could promote the formation of hydroxyapatite on the tooth surface, thereby promoting the remineralization of teeth and improving the teeth hardness. Moreover, it had photothermal antibacterial properties and no cytotoxicity.
CONCLUSIONS
Defect-modified black calcium silicate has multiple functions, such as promoting tooth remineralization and photothermal bacteriostatic. When combined with the infrared luminescent toothbrush, it can simply and effectively treat tooth enamel erosion and oral bacteriostatic diseases caused by the excessive consumption of carbonated beverages and other daily bad living habits. This combination is expected to achieve the synergic treatment effect of tooth remineralization and oral bacteriostatic through daily cleaning is expected.

The theoretical basis of premature aging originates from The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic. The etiology of premature aging is complex, and the disease mechanism is based on deficiency. The treatment for premature aging is based on tonicity. The essence-Qi-spirit theory of Qiluo doctrine summarizes that "essence is the origin of life, Qi is the driving force of life, and spirit is the embodiment of life", which is the law of life. The theory puts forward the core disease mechanism of aging, which states that "deficiency of kidney essence is the root of aging, deficiency of primordial Qi is the key to aging, impairment of soma and spirit is the manifestation of aging". The theory also proposes the treatment of "tonifying kidney and supplementing essence, harmonizing Yin and Yang, warming and supporting primordial Qi, and nourishing soma and spirit" and the representative anti-aging drugs. The article unfolds from the perspective of the concepts of natural life span, premature senility before fifty, decline, and aging and also explains the origins and connotations of premature aging. The article explains the disease mechanism of premature aging under the guidance of the essence-Qi-spirit theory of Qiluo doctrine, which is "early deprivation of kidney essence, deficiency of primordial Qi, accumulation of deficiencies into impairment, and decline and impairment of soma and spirit", summarizes the progress of modern medical research on the treatment of premature aging and representative drugs, and finds that Bazi Bushen capsules have a precise therapeutic effect on the overall premature aging, systematic functional decline, and related diseases. The study provides theoretical basis and new ideas to solve the problems of premature aging and geriatric diseases.

Journal of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;48(2):174-180
By analyzing the meridian related diseases of the heart in the Lingshu · Meridians chapter, this study summarizes the characteristics of heart diseases caused by the Heart Channel of Hand-Shaoyin, Pericardium Channel of Hand-Jueyin, and other meridians from the perspectives of pathogenic meridians, lesion sites, and disease nature. The pathogenesis and connotation of these diseases are analyzed, providing new ideas for the prevention and treatment of heart related diseases. Among the twelve meridians, besides the Heart Channel of Hand-Shaoyin and Pericardium Channel of Hand-Jueyin, there are five meridians that cause heart diseases, namely the Lung Channel of Hand-Taiyin, Stomach Channel of Foot-Yangming, Spleen Channel of Foot-Taiyin, Kidney Channel of Foot-Shaoyin, and Gallbladder Channel of Foot-Shaoyang. Diseases are more common in the yin meridian, with pain and heat as the main symptoms. They are related to the fact that the heart is a yang zang-organ, and evil qi is easily converted from yang to heat, causing diseases through the transmission of heart fire. There are three mechanisms by which other meridians can affect the Heart Channel of Hand-Shaoyin and Pericardium Channel of Hand-Jueyin, leading to symptoms such as heart pain and palpitations. Firstly, pathogenic factors can be transmitted along the meridians, causing discomfort and heartache to the heart; secondly, due to the abnormal pathogenic behavior of the Five Elements, where the gallbladder wood do not generate heart fire, and the heart yang is weak and painful; kidney water does not control heart fire, and the heat disturbs the mind and causes palpitations; thirdly, qi function is abnormal, which leads to abnormal opening and closing of the Yangming and Shaoyang channels, causing palpitations due to insufficient yin qi in the pericardium meridian or pain due to yang deficiency in the heart channel. External pathogens enter the lung through the channels, causing obstacles in the generation and distribution of pectoral qi, affecting the qi function of the heart channel and causing distress. The three mechanisms can exist independently or simultaneously as diseases.
