OBJECTIVE: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of supraspinatus muscle outlet X-ray film, oblique sagittal multislice helical CT (MSCT), and oblique sagittal MRI in the diagnosis of subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the imaging data of 106 patients diagnosed with SIS between January 2023 and December 2024. The cohort consisted of 32 males and 74 females, with ages ranging from 43 to 70 years (mean, 60.19 years). All patients underwent supraspinatus muscle outlet X-ray film, MSCT, and MRI scans, with MSCT further subjected to three-dimensional reconstruction. Two experienced radiologists independently evaluated the acromion morphology in each imaging modality using the Bigliani classification system. Inter-observer reliability was assessed via Kappa statistics. The CT three-dimensional reconstructions were used as the "gold standard". The overall consistency, Kappa values, sensitivity, and specificity of the three imaging modalities were calculated. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted, and the area under the curve (AUC) was computed. RESULTS: The inter-observer reliability for supraspinatus muscle outlet X-ray film, oblique sagittal MSCT, and oblique sagittal MRI was moderate, with Kappa values of 0.62, 0.63, and 0.55, respectively. When compared to the CT three-dimensional reconstructions as the "gold standard", the overall consistency was 88.7% (94/106), 62.3% (66/106), and 58.5% (62/106), respectively. The supraspinatus muscle outlet X-ray film showed excellent consistency (Kappa=0.77), whereas the consistency of MSCT and MRI was lower (Kappa=0.34 and 0.29, respectively). In terms of diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, the supraspinatus muscle outlet X-ray film outperformed oblique sagittal MSCT and oblique sagittal MRI in distinguishing various acromion types. ROC analysis demonstrated that the AUC for the supraspinatus muscle outlet X-ray film was consistently higher than for oblique sagittal MSCT and oblique sagittal MRI, with the highest diagnostic performance observed for type Ⅲ hooked acromion (AUC=0.939). CONCLUSION Supraspinatus muscle outlet X-ray film provides the highest diagnostic accuracy for acromion classification in SIS patients, particularly in identifying type Ⅲ hooked acromion, which is strongly associated with SIS. Given its superior sensitivity and consistency, it should be considered the primary screening tool. MSCT and MRI serve as valuable supplementary modalities for complex cases and preoperative evaluation.

Chemical communication in plant-microbiome and intra-microbiome interactions weaves a complex network, critically shaping ecosystem stability and agricultural productivity. This non-contact interaction is driven by small-molecule signals that orchestrate crosstalk dynamics and beneficial association. Plants leverage these signals to distinguish between pathogens and beneficial microbes, dynamically modulate immune responses, and secrete exudates to recruit a beneficial microbiome, while microbes in turn influence plant nutrient acquisition and stress resilience. Such bidirectional chemical dialogues underpin nutrient cycling, co-evolution, microbiome assembly, and plant resistance. However, knowledge gaps persist regarding validating the key molecules involved in plant-microbe interactions. Interpreting chemical communication requires multi-omics integration to predict key information, genome editing and click chemistry to verify the function of biomolecules, and artificial intelligence (AI) models to improve resolution and accuracy. This review helps advance the understanding of chemical communication and provides theoretical support for agriculture to cope with food insecurity and climate challenges.

Objective:To investigate the association between sleep status and the risk for coronary heart disease in adults in Suzhou.Methods:Using the baseline and follow up information of 53 269 local residents aged 30-79 years in China Kadoorie Biobank conducted in Wuzhong District, Suzhou, 51 929 subjects were included in this study after excluding those reporting coronary heart disease, stroke and cancer at the baseline survey. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to analyze the association of healthy sleep score (0-3 points) and sleep factors (snoring, insomnia, long sleep duration and nap) with the risk for coronary heart disease.Results:The median follow-up time was 11.12 years, and 1 304 individuals were diagnosed with coronary heart disease during the follow-up. After adjusting for potential confounders, occasional snoring ( HR=1.20, 95% CI: 1.04-1.38), usual snoring ( HR=1.17, 95% CI: 1.02-1.33), insomnia disorder ( HR=1.41, 95% CI: 1.12-1.78), daytime dysfunction ( HR=1.56, 95% CI: 1.20-2.03) and perennial nap ( HR=1.37, 95% CI: 1.19-1.59) were associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease. Compared with those with sleep score of 0 - 1 (low sleep quality), the people with sleep score of 3 had reduced risk of coronary heart disease by 26% ( HR=0.74, 95% CI: 0.63-0.87). Stratified analysis showed that the association of healthy sleep score 3 with risk of coronary heart disease was stronger in low physically active individuals (interaction P<0.05). Conclusions:Snoring, insomnia disorders, daytime dysfunction, and perennial napping were all associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease, and keep healthy sleep mode might reduce the risk for coronary heart disease in adults.

For the detection and identification of abnormal nodular tissues on the body surface, a microwave sensor structure loaded with a spiral resonator is proposed in this paper, a sensor simulation model is established using HFSS software, the structural parameters are optimized, and the actual sensor is fabricated. The S21 parameters of the tissue were obtained when nodules appeared by simulation, and the characteristic relationship between the difference of S21 parameters with position was analyzed and tested experimentally. The results showed that when nodules were present in normal tissues, the curve of S21 parameter difference with position change had obvious inverted bimodal characteristics, and the extreme value of S21 parameter difference appeared when the sensor was directly above the nodules, which was easy to identify the position of nodules. It provides an objective detection tool for the identification of abnormal nodular tissues on the body surface.

Objective:To analyze the effect of different lithotomy positions on hemodynamics in patients undergoing laparoscopic total hysterectomy.Methods:A total of 50 patients who underwent laparoscopic total hysterectomy at Zhoushan Women and Children's Hospital between January 2020 and June 2021 were included in this study. The patients were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group using a random number table method, with 25 patients in each group. The control group underwent conventional lithotomy position total laparoscopic hysterectomy, while the observation group underwent high and low lithotomy position total laparoscopic hysterectomy. The general surgical indicators, respiratory function indicators, blood gas analysis indicators, hemodynamic levels, incidence of complications, and clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups.Results:The general surgical indicators and airway peak pressure indicators in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (both P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in partial pressure of end-tidal carbon dioxide (PCO 2) and arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure (PaCO 2) between the two groups (both P < 0.05). At 15 minutes after pneumoperitoneum, the PaCO 2 level increased in each group, and the PaCO 2 level in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (all P < 0.05). At the same time, the HCO 3- level decreased in each group, and the HCO 3- level in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (all P < 0.05). At 5 minutes before recovery of body position, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure in the control group were (76.52 ± 8.61) beats/minute, (113.52 ± 5.36) mmHg (1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa), and (86.91 ± 4.21) mmHg, respectively. At 5 minutes after recovery of body position, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure in the control group were (89.52 ± 8.61) beats/minute, (106.85 ± 5.63) mmHg, and (80.96 ± 3.65) mmHg, respectively. At 5 minutes before recovery of body position, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure in the observation group were (76.36 ± 8.61) beats/minute, (112.79 ± 5.28) mmHg, and (86.89 ± 4.54) mmHg. At 5 minutes after recovery of body position, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure in the observation group were (75.63 ± 6.86) beats/minute, (111.99 ± 5.51) mmHg, and (85.06 ± 3.21) mmHg, respectively. At 5 minutes after recovery of body position, heart rate in the control group was increased and that in the observation group was decreased compared with heart rate measured at 5 minutes before recovery of body position. At 5 minutes after recovery of body position, heart rate in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group. Diastolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure decreased in each group, and the amplitudes of reductions in diastolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group. ( t = 6.04, 3.26, 4.22, all P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups ( P > 0.05). The overall response rate in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group ( P < 0.05). Conclusion:Compared with conventional lithotomy position total laparoscopic hysteretsotomy, high and low lithotomy position total laparoscopic hysterectomy takes a shorter duration for total laparoscopic hysterectomy, leads to a shorter length of hospital stay, results in less blood loss, causes fewer postoperative infections, and results in more stable hemodynamics and a lower incidence of complications.

Proline-rich transmembrane protein 2 (PRRT2) is the leading cause of paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia (PKD), benign familial infantile epilepsy (BFIE), and infantile convulsions with choreoathetosis (ICCA). Reduced penetrance of PRRT2 has been observed in previous studies, whereas the exact penetrance has not been evaluated well. The objective of this study was to estimate the penetrance of PRRT2 and determine its influencing factors. We screened 222 PKD index patients and their available relatives, identified 39 families with pathogenic or likely pathogenic (P/LP) PRRT2 variants via Sanger sequencing, and obtained 184 PKD/BFIE/ICCA families with P/LP PRRT2 variants from the literature. Penetrance was estimated as the proportion of affected variant carriers. PRRT2 penetrance estimate was 77.6% (95% confidence interval (CI) 74.5%-80.7%) in relatives and 74.5% (95% CI 70.2%-78.8%) in obligate carriers. In addition, we first observed that penetrance was higher in truncated than in non-truncated variants (75.8% versus 50.0%, P = 0.01), higher in Asian than in Caucasian carriers (81.5% versus 68.5%, P = 0.004), and exhibited no difference in gender or parental transmission. Our results are meaningful for genetic counseling, implying that approximately three-quarters of PRRT2 variant carriers will develop PRRT2-related disorders, with patients from Asia or carrying truncated variants at a higher risk.

Body donation is the main source of human specimens preparation in medical universities and colleges. The low donation rate in China restricts the improvement of basic medical research and clinical treatment seriously. In the investigation, deep-rooted traditional concepts, unsound legal system, and inadequate government propaganda have become the major factors influencing body donation. Combined with the practice of body donation in the localities, this study puts forward some measures to promote the body donation, such as giving targeted publicity, promoting the concept of civilized funeral and burial, strengthening legislation, and simplifying the body donation process, which would lay the foundation for the development of medical education and research.

To detemine the expression pattern of mTOR complex subunits Raptor and Rictor in the hair follicles of mice at different hair follicle stages, and to explore its significance. 
 Methods: Immunostaining of Ki-67, a proliferative marker, was used to determine the precise hair follicle stages of mouse dorsal skin at different postnatal time points. Real-time PCR was used to detect the mRNA expression of Raptor and Rictor in mouse dorsal skin at 43 days after birth (P43, early telogen), 56 days after birth (P56, mid-telogen), 69 days after birth (P69, late telogen) and 74 days after birth (P74, early anagen). The expression intensity and localization of Raptor and Rictor at different stages of hair cycle were tested by co-immumostaining.
 Results: Ki-67 immunostaining showed that the time points (P43, P56, P69, P74) and hair follicle stages (early telogen, mid-telogen, late telogen, early anagen) of the dorsal skin were consistent with each other. The results of real-time PCR and immunostaining were consistent, showing that the expression of Raptor and Rictor did not changed in the early-, mid-, late telogen, and early anagen. However, Raptor was specifically expressed in the bulge where hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) are residing in, and Rictor was mainly detected in inner root sheath (IRS) cells. 
 Conclusion: The expression of Raptor and Rictor does not altered in the hair follicles at different hair follicle stages, but Raptor and Rictor are specifically expressed in the HFSCs and IRS cells, respectively, indicating that Raptor might be a molecular marker for HFSCs, and Rictor might be involved in the maintenance of IRS and formation of hair shaft.

Objective: To identify the time window during which the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) signaling pathway plays a key role in telogen-to-anagen transition of hair follicles, and to explore whether the pathway specifically promotes the proliferation of hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) . Methods: Totally, 36 newborn ICR mice were randomly and equally divided into 3 groups: RAPA-P19 group intraperitoneally injected with 5 mg·kg^-1·d^-1 sirolimus on days 19-24 after birth, RAPA-P21 group intraperitoneally injected with 5 mg·kg^-1·d^-1 sirolimus on days 21-24 after birth, and control group intraperitoneally injected with the same volume of solvent on days 19-24 after birth. Four mice were sacrificed in each group on days 22, 23 and 24 separately. Skin tissues were resected from the back, and hematoxylin-eosin staining of the skin tissues were performed followed by observation of hair follicle morphology to evaluate whether murine hair follicles progressed into the anagen phase on day 24. Immunofluorescence costaining was conducted to determine the expression and localization of mTORC1 downstream molecular marker pS6 and cell proliferation marker Ki67 on days 22 and 23. Results: On day 24, hematoxylin-eosin staining showed anagen hair follicles in the control group and RAPA-P21 group, but telogen hair follicles in the RAPA-P19 group. On days 22 and 23, immunofluorescence costaining revealed positive staining for both pS6 and Ki67 in HFSCs in the control group, negative staining for both pS6 and Ki67 in the RAPA-P19 group, negative staining for pS6 and positive staining for Ki67 in the RAPA-P21 group. On day 23, epidermal cells and sebaceous gland cells in the upper hair follicle bulge were stained positively for Ki67 in all the 3 groups. Conclusion mTORC1 signaling specifically promotes the proliferation of HFSCs during telogen-to-anagen transition, but not affects proliferation of other cells in hair follicles.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of lymphoplasma exchange (LPE) for the treatment of severe refractory immune-related skin diseases.Methods From May 2013 to October 2015,8 patients with toxic epidermal necrolysis,drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DIHS),pemphigus vulgaris,pemphigoid or paraneoplastic pemphigus were enrolled from Department of Dermatology,Xiangya Hospital,Central South University,who showed no response to conventional therapy or presented with multiple organ dysfunction.After the treatment with LPE,the efficacy was evaluated,and adverse reactions were observed.Results After one session of LPE therapy,6 patients received marked improvement,and were cured at last.In 1 patient with pemphigus vulgaris who was resistant to the treatment with high doses of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive agents,the rashes regressed during the treatment with LPE,but recurred after the end of treatment.One patient with bullous pemphigoid presented with eruptive blisters on the next day after the treatment with LPE,which were considered as allergic reactions to allogeneic plasma.There were no obvious differences in white blood cell count,lymphocyte count,neutrophil count and blood platelet count in the peripheral blood of 8 patients before and after the treatment with LPE.During the follow-up of 3-5 years,all of the patients were recovered without recurrence,except 1 patient with bullous pemphigoid who died of disseminated tuberculosis after 1 year.Conclusion LPE is effective for the treatment of severe immune-related skin diseases,but attention should be paid to potential transfusion reaction and allergic reactions.
