2.CHAO Enxiang's Experience in Treating Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis by Staging:from the Perspective of Heat,Phlegm,Stasis and Deficiency
Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;66(13):1317-1321
To summarise the clinical experience of Professor CHAO Enxiang in treating idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) by staging from heat, phlegm, stasis and deficiency. It is believed that IPH has blood-heat and phlegm-stasis, and deficiency of qi and yin as the core pathomechanisms, in which the pathomechanism of acute pulmonary haemorrhage is based on intense blood heat, and modified Shihui Powder (十灰散) is used to clear heat and regulate ying qi (nutrient qi), and reduce fire to settle the collaterals. The pathomechanism of pulmonary haemorrhage in the static stage is based on phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs, and modified Qingfei Dingke Decoction (清肺定咳汤) is used to clear the lungs and dissolve phlegm, harmonize the collaterals to stop haemorrhage. The pathomechanism of acute exacerbation at chronic stage is based on deficiency of qi and yin, and also blood-heat and phlegm-stasis, modified Shengmai Powder (生脉散), Shihui Powder plus Qingfei Dingke Decoction should be used to benefit qi and nourish yin, clear heat, resolve phlegm and eliminate blood stasis. In the chronic prolongation period, the pathogenesis of the disease is based on the deficiency of qi and yin, modified Shengmai Powder may be used to benefit qi and nourish yin, moisten the lungs and rest blood.
3.Correlation between beverage dependence and sleep quality among college students
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(8):1125-1129
Objective:
To explore the relationship between beverage dependence and sleep quality among college students, providing empirical evidence for improving their sleep quality.
Methods:
From December 2024 to January 2025, a convenience sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey among 3 974 college students from four universities in Anhui Province. The Beverage Addiction Scale for College Students (BASCS) was used to assess beverage dependence, and the Self rating Scale of Sleep(SRSS) was used to evaluate sleep quality. A multivariate Logistic regression model was employed to analyze the relationship between beverage dependence and sleep quality, and a restricted cubic spline model was used to examine the dose response relationship between the two.
Results:
The positive rate of beverage dependence symptoms among college students was 7.6%, with positive rates of 9.6%, 13.8%, and 7.4% for the withdrawal symptoms, health effects, and dependence symptoms dimensions, respectively. The detection rate of sleep disorders was 23.6%. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for covariates such as grade, gender, and body mass index, compared with the no beverage dependence group, students with positive beverage dependence symptoms had a higher risk of sleep disorders( OR =3.71, 95% CI =2.87-4.80, P <0.01). The OR (95% CI ) for sleep disorders among students with positive symptoms in the withdrawal symptoms, health effects, and dependence symptoms dimensions were 2.80(2.22-3.53), 2.38(1.95-2.91), and 2.45(1.89-3.18)(all P <0.01). Further analysis using a restricted cubic spline model revealed that the overall beverage dependence score and its three dimensional scores were approximately linearly related to the risk of sleep disorders among college students (all nonlinear P >0.05).
Conclusions
Beverage dependence is associated with sleep quality among college students. Schools should take multiple approaches, such as health education on beverage awareness, to improve students sleep quality.

Objective To screen and verify the genes that play key role in the occurrence and development of esophageal cancer by u-sing bioinformatics and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR(qRT-PCR)methods to find new markers for diagnosis of esophageal cancer(ESCA).Methods Using the TCGA database and Wayne plot analysis, the cross genes between the differentially expressed genes of ESCA and the genes which have the most significant impacts on disease-free survival(DFS)rate in esophageal cancer patients were preliminarily identified.Following conducting protein-protein interaction(PPI)network analysis on the overlapping genes,GO and KEGG functional analysis was performed to screen the potential key genes as the diagnostic markers of esophageal cancer.qRT-PCR was used to quantitatively analyze the expression of mRNA of the key gene in peripheral blood.Statistical analysis was con-ducted based on the clinico-pathological characteristics of the patients to determine its potential value as a new diagnostic marker for e-sophageal cancer. Results After overlapping of differentially expressed genes of ESCA and disease-free survival genes in the TCGA database,39 upregulated genes and 20 downregulated genes were found to be differentially expressed, all of which affected disease-free survival rate. After conducting PPI network analysis,15 upregulated genes with core interactions were identified, and the downregulat-ed genes did not form any interaction network.Further enrichment analysis of these 15 core interacting genes through GO and KEGG,revealed that fibronectin 1(FN1)may be a potential biomarker for ESCA diagnosis. The qRT-PCR results showed that compared with the healthy control group, the mRNA expression level of FN1 in the peripheral blood of esophageal cancer patients was significantly ele-vated.After analyzing the clinical characteristics of patients,it was found that the patients with poor differentiation and high clinico-pathological staging had significantly increased peripheral blood FN1 mRNA levels. The model with FN1 mRNA expression levels can distinguish esophageal cancer patients from healthy individuals. Conclusion FN1 mRNA may be a potential non-invasive diagnostic biomarker for esophageal cancer.

Chinese Journal of Radiation Oncology 2022;31(7):643-648
Objective:To analyze the association between the expression of ubiquinone oxidoreductase complex assembly factor 4 (NDUFAF4) and clinical prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), evaluate the effect of NDUFAF4 on the radiosensitivity of human HCC cell lines, and unravel the underlying mechanism. Methods:The online database and HCC tissue samples were used to investigate the expression of NDUFAF4, and the correlation between NDUFAF4 expression level and clinical prognosis. The si-NDUFAF4 plasmid which down-regulated the expression level of NDUFAF4 was transferred into HepG2 and Huh7 cells. The radiosensitivity of HCC cell lines was detected by clone formation experiment. Nude mice were prepared for tumor-bearing experiment. The β-catenin level was detected by immunofluorescent staining. The expression levels of E-cadherin and N-cadherin proteins were determined by Western blot. Results:Bioinformatics results confirmed that NDUFAF4 was significantly up-regulated in HCC tissues, and the higher the expression level, the worse the patients' clinical prognosis ( P<0.05). The expression level of NDUFAF4 in HCC tissues was significantly higher than that in the adjacent tissues. Clone formation experiment confirmed that knockdown of NDUFAF4 significantly decreased the survival rate of HCC cells ( P<0.01). In vivo experiment showed that knockdown of NDUFAF4 could prevent the proliferation of HCC cells and down-regualte the expression levels of β-catenin and Ki-67. Knockdown of NDUFAF4 significantly down-regulated the expression level of β-catenin protein in the nucleus of HCC cell lines, suggesting that NDUFAF4 could activate the WNT/β-catenin signaling pathway. Knockdown of NDUFAF4 significantly up-regulated the expression level of E-cadherin and down-regulated that of N-cadherin. Conclusions:Knockdown of NDUFAF4 can significantly enhance the radiosensitivity of HCC cell lines by inhibiting the WNT/β-catenin signaling pathway. The expression level of NDUFAF4 is intimately correlated with clinical prognosis. NDUFAF4 can be considered as a new target for lowering the radiation resistance of HCC.

Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine 2022;15(4):153-160
Objective: To describe the current reporting of pneumonia of unknown etiology (PUE) and factors that affect reporting by clinicians in China using the PUE surveillance system in order to provide a reference for improving PUE reporting rates in the future. Methods: Clinicians were recruited via the Sojump platform and requested to complete an anonymous self-administered questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess factors influencing clinicians' reporting activities. Results: This study showed a low PUE case reporting rate and a poor understanding of PUE reporting among the investigated clinicians. Of the 136 clinicians who had diagnosed PUE cases, multivariate logistic regression analysis results showed that clinicians who had attended in-hospital training were more likely to report PUE than those who had not (OR 4.48, 95% CI 1.49-13.46). Clinicians with an expert panel on PUE in their hospital were more likely to report PUE cases than those without (OR 5.46, 95% CI 1.85-16.11). Conclusions: There is a need to promote and reinforce PUE surveillance system training among medical staff. In addition, PUE testing technologies in hospital laboratories should be upgraded, especially in primary and unclassified hospitals, to increase surveillance efficiency and improve PUE reporting rates.
