Objective:
To explore the effects of microwave radiation on cognitive function and neuroinflammation in mice with experimental periodontitis, providing experimental evidence for understanding how environmental exposure may be linked to the risk of neurodegenerative diseases by modulating chronic inflammation as a shared pathological mechanism
Methods:
This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences. C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into a control group (C group, untreated), a microwave radiation group (R group, exposed to microwave radiation only), a periodontitis group (P group, ligation-induced periodontitis only), and a periodontitis + microwave radiation group (PR group, ligation-induced periodontitis plus microwave radiation exposure). A periodontitis model was established using the silk ligation method. Eight weeks after modeling, the R and PR groups were subjected to whole-body microwave radiation at 2 800 MHz and 10 mW/cm2 for 10 h/day for 7 consecutive days. Behavioral tests were conducted: the open field test and elevated plus maze test were used to assess anxiety-like behavior, the Y-maze test to evaluate spatial memory, and the novel object recognition test to assess learning and memory abilities. Micro-CT, hematoxylin & eosin staining (HE), and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) were used to analyze periodontal tissue pathology and local inflammation. Serum and brain levels of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The composition of the oral microbiota was analyzed based on 16S rRNA sequencing.
Results:
Behavioral tests showed that anxiety-like behavior was significantly exacerbated in the R and PR groups, and spatial and recognition memory impairments in the PR and P groups were more severe compared with the R and C groups, respectively (P < 0.05). Histological and molecular biological analyses revealed that periodontal inflammation infiltration, alveolar bone resorption, and local expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6) were further exacerbated in the PR and P groups compared with the R and C groups, respectively (P < 0.05). ELISA results showed that in serum, LPS levels in group P and group PR were increased compared with group C and group R, respectively. The levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in group PR were significantly higher than those in group P and group R, with a synergistic increase in TNF-α level (P < 0.05). In brain tissue, LPS and TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 levels in group P were significantly higher than those in group C; all the above indicators in group PR were significantly higher than those in group P and group R, and LPS and IL-6 levels showed a synergistic increase (P < 0.05). Oral microbiota analysis found that microwave radiation further reduced microbial diversity on the basis of periodontitis, leading to increased relative abundances of Lactobacillus and Enterococcus, and decreased relative abundances of Staphylococcus. Correlation analysis confirmed that these differential bacterial genera were positively correlated with brain inflammation levels and negatively correlated with cognitive function indicators.
Conclusion
Microwave radiation exposure can exacerbate cognitive impairment in mice with experimental periodontitis, and its mechanism may be related to aggravated local periodontal damage, disruption of oral microbiota homeostasis, and subsequent induction of systemic and central neuroinflammatory cascades.

Objective:
To investigate the awareness of knowledge about hepatitis C prevention and control among outpatients in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, and its influencing factors, so as to provide the evidence for strengthening health education on hepatitis C prevention and control.
Methods:
Based on sentinel surveillance of hepatitis C, the outpatients aged 15 to 65 years at seven hospitals in Yinzhou District, Cixi City and Xiangshan County of Ningbo City were selected using the convenient sampling method from April to June during 2020 and 2022. Demographic information, knowledge and behaviors related to hepatitis C prevention and control were collected through questionnaire surveys. The influencing factors for knowledge about hepatitis C prevention and control were analyzed using a multivariable logistic regression model.
Results:
A total of 2 792 participants were surveyed, including 1 157 males (41.44%) and 1 635 females (58.56%). The awareness rate of knowledge about hepatitis C prevention and control was 56.23%, and was lower in knowledge about hepatitis C vaccine and treatment. The awareness rates of knowledge about hepatitis C prevention and control among outpatients from 2020 to 2022 were 47.11%, 53.22% and 70.65%, respectively, showing an upward trend (P<0.05). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that participants aged 25 to <50 years (OR=1.358, 95%CI: 1.073-1.719), with an educational level of high school or junior college (OR=1.431, 95%CI: 1.134-1.806) or above junior college (OR=3.728, 95%CI: 2.958-4.699), with household monthly income per capita of 3 000 to <5 000 yuan (OR=1.828, 95%CI: 1.344-2.486) or ≥5 000 yuan (OR=1.858, 95%CI: 1.366-2.526), without a history of invasive treatments such as pedicure in public places (OR=1.287, 95%CI: 1.024-1.618), without a history of contact with family members' blood-contaminated items (OR=2.050, 95%CI: 1.552-2.707), and always using condoms during sexual contacts (OR=1.740, 95%CI: 1.273-2.378) had higher awareness of knowledge about hepatitis C prevention and control.
Conclusions
The awareness of knowledge about hepatitis C vaccine and treatment among outpatients in Ningbo City needs to be improved. Age, educational level, household monthly income per capita, history of invasive treatments such as pedicure in public places, history of contact with family members' blood-contaminated items and frequency of condom use during sexual contacts are associated with outpatients' awareness of knowledge about hepatitis C prevention and control.

To investigate the correlation between vitamin D nutritional status and insulin resistance in pubertal adolescents. This cross-sectional observational study employed convenience sampling to recruit 2021-grade(8th grade) students from Jining No.7 Middle School in Shandong Province on June 5, 2023. Data collection included questionnaires, physical examinations, and imaging assessments to obtain general information, secondary sexual characteristics development, and bone age. Venous blood samples were collected to measure fasting blood glucose(FBG), fasting insulin(FINS), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D[25(OH)D] levels. Spearman correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression models were used to examine the associations between serum vitamin D levels and FBG, FINS, and HOMA-IR. The study included 168 pubertal adolescents[69 females(41.1%), 99 males(58.9%); mean age(13.27±0.46) years]. All participants had entered puberty based on sexual development assessment. Vitamin D deficiency was observed in 41 participants(24.4%), insufficiency in 109(64.9%), and sufficiency in 18(10.7%). The median HOMA-IR was 3.49(2.57, 5.14).Significant differences were found across vitamin D status groups for HOMA-IR [4.45(2.54, 6.62) Vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency is prevalent among pubertal adolescents, and serum vitamin D levels show a significant inverse association with insulin resistance. These findings suggest the potential importance of vitamin D status in metabolic health during puberty.

Objective:To evaluate the intervention effectiveness of scenario simulation teaching based on the Eilks model on the social context integration ability, critical thinking, and humanistic care of resident physicians in the department of stomatology. Methods:A total of 94 resident physicians in the department of stomatology were included in the study, with 53 in the experimental group and 41 in the control group. The control group received traditional teaching, while the experimental group received scenario simulation teaching based on the Eilks model. Through the five-link design of "text analysis, scientific background, social context, viewpoint debate, and meta reflection", the integration of social science issues (such as ethical conflicts and economic costs) and clinical decision-making was strengthened. Trainees were evaluated for clinical decision-making ability, clinical reflection ability, and doctor-patient communication ability. The data were subjected to t-test and chi-square test using SPSS 24.0. Results:In terms of clinical decision-making ability, the experimental group outperformed the control group in ethical cost balance [(7.85±1.08) vs. (6.12±1.73), t=5.68, P<0.001], multidisciplinary collaboration [(8.25±0.73) vs. (5.83±0.82), t=6.01, P<0.001)], and complication planning [(7.98±1.02) vs. (5.34±1.42), t=6.79, P<0.001]. In terms of clinical reflection ability, the experimental group scored higher in depth of cost-benefit analysis, intensity of evidence-based reflection, and cognitive upgrading (all P<0.001). In terms of doctor-patient communication skills, the experimental group demonstrated superior performance compared to the control group in information collection [(10.25±1.28) vs. (7.53±1.33)] and emotional support [(10.97±1.18) vs. (6.53±1.23)]. Conclusions:Based on the Eilks model, scenario simulation teaching effectively enhances the ability of residents in the department of stomatology to integrate social factors, optimize ethical decision-making, and perform empathetic communication through social conflict simulation (such as three-way role debate) and dual path critical thinking training. In the future, further optimization is needed in terms of personalized expression and the timeliness of basic training.

To perform the phylogenetic characterization of an isolated porcine rotavirus(PoRV)and investigate its pathogenicity in suckling mice and piglets.A G4P[23]genotype PoRV strain JSJR2023 was successfully isolated from the diarrheic piglet feces through propagation in MA104 cells. The viral proliferation kinetics were analyzed using TCID50 assays, followed by complete genome sequencing through Sanger sequencing platforms.Comprehensive genotyping and phylogenetic reconstruction were conducted using MEGA7.0 with maximum likelihood algorithms.Pathogenicity was assessed in the following animal models:5-day-old C57BL/6 mice and 3-day-old piglets.Multidimensional evaluation included clinical monitoring(diarrhea scoring, growth parameters),virological detection, and histopathological analysis of intestinal tissues. The virus strain JSJR2023 could replicate efficiently in MA104 cells, achieving peak titers of 107.5 TCID50/mL.Whole genome genotype analysis showed that the strain belonged to G4-P[23]-I5-R1-C1-M1-A8-N1-T1-E1-H1.Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the VP3 and NSP4 genes of JSJR2023 strain were most closedrelated to human species rotaviruses, suggesting genetic reassortment between human and porcine RV strains. The animal experiments in suckling mice showed that the JSJR2023 strain infection caused diarrhea symptoms, intestinal edema and congestion, and shedding of intestinal villus epithelial cells. The pathogenicity experiments in piglets showed that compared with the control group, the challenged group of pig-lets had severe diarrhea symptoms, accompanied by reduced appetite and listlessness.Post-mortem examination revealed that the intes-tines were significantly thinner, congested, and filled with yellow watery contents. The challenged piglets showed typical pathological changes such as thinning of the intestinal wall and shortening and shedding of intestinal villi. In conclusion, this study successfully iso-lated a human-porcine recombinant G4P[23]PoRV strain and established the infection models in suckling mice and piglets, providing important tools for investigating the pathogenic mechanism of PoRV,evaluating vaccines and developing antiviral drug.

Objective:To explore the latent-classes of HIV high risk behaviors among college students, and the association between experiences of intimate partner violence (IPV) and HIV high risk behaviors, to provide evidence for reducing the HIV high risk behaviors among them. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted from October to December 2019 among university students from six higher education institutions in Zhuhai City, using a multi-stage cluster sampling method, with an estimated sample size of 1 318. The study included participants who self-reported being in a romantic relationship and having sexual experience within the past year. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, IPV experiences, and HIV high risk behaviors were collected. Latent-class analysis was performed on HIV high risk behaviors, and chi-squared tests and multivariable logistic regression were used to analyze the associations between IPV experiences and different latent classes of HIV high risk behaviors. Results:The effective response rate for the survey was 95.4% (12 235/12 821). 1 382 college students from Zhuhai were included as participants in the study, with 19.4% (268/1 382) self-reporting having experienced IPV. Latent-class analysis of HIV high risk behaviors classified the participants into three latent groups: low-risk group (78.1%, 1 079/1 382), multiple sexual partners/alcohol use before sex group (15.8%, 219/1 382), and high-risk group (6.1%, 84/1 382). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that students who had experienced psychological violence were more likely to be in the group that had multiple sexual partners/alcohol use before sex (a OR=2.51, 95% CI:1.48-4.27). Those who had experienced IPV (a OR=5.74, 95% CI:3.45-9.55), physical violence (a OR=9.26, 95% CI: 5.24-16.35), sexual violence (a OR=8.46, 95% CI:4.93-14.52), or psychological violence (a OR=15.99, 95% CI:8.64-29.57) were more likely to be in the high-risk group. Students who experienced two (a OR=9.37, 95% CI:3.55-24.71) or three types of IPV (a OR=50.09, 95% CI: 21.06-119.14) were more likely to be in the high-risk group compared to those with no IPV experiences. Conclusions:HIV high risk behaviors among college students in Zhuhai exhibited heterogeneity across different latent groups, and these groups have different associations with IPV experiences. Universities should tailor targeted HIV/AIDS education and prevention strategies based on the characteristics of each latent group to reduce HIV high risk behaviors among college students.

Objectives:To describe the use of antihypertensive, antidiabetic and lipid-lowering drugs, and evaluate the effects on blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipids controls required by Chinese Guideline on the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases (the guideline) in a community-based cohort of individuals at high risk for cardiovascular disease. To analyze the association of the uses of antihypertensive, antidiabetic and lipid-lowering drugs, and the comprehensive control of blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipids with cardiovascular disease. Methods:From the CHinese Electronic health Records Research in Yinzhou (CHERRY), those who were at high risk for cardiovascular disease and aged 40-75 years as of January 1, 2013 in in Yinzhou District of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province were selected as study subjects. The information about their antihypertensive, antidiabetic, and lipid-lowering drug uses between 2013 and 2015 was collected, and blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood lipid measurements were conducted during the follow-up. The study constructed two kinds of comprehensive scores: the comprehensive medication score based on the guideline requirement for the treatment of hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia, dividing the study participants into the compliancy group and non-compliancy group; and the comprehensive control score based on the guideline requirement for blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood lipids control, dividing the study participants into better control group, moderate control group, and poor control group. Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to analyze the association of the comprehensive medication score and comprehensive control score with cardiovascular disease. The incidence data of cardiovascular disease were collected from January 1, 2015 (baseline time) to August 31, 2020 (follow up end time). Results:A total of 79 734 participants at high risk for cardiovascular disease were included in the study, in whom 68.4%, 27.4%, and 4.2% had 1, 2, or 3 cardiometabolic conditions (hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia), respectively. In the participants with hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia from 2013 to 2015, the proportions of those who had two years of medication compliancy records were 66.0%, 67.4%, and 13.9%, respectively. In the hypertension patients, 59.2% had better blood pressure control, in the diabetes patients, 28.7% had better blood glucose control, and in the patients with hyperlipidemia, 27.4% had better blood lipid control. After a median follow-up of 5.66 years, 4 088 cardiovascular disease cases or deaths occurred. After multivariate adjustment, compared with the non-compliancy group, the compliancy group had lower risk for cardiovascular disease ( HR=0.91, 95% CI: 0.85-0.96). Compared with the better control group, the poor control group had an increased risk for cardiovascular disease ( HR=1.67, 95% CI: 1.53-1.81). In the moderate control group, the risk increased significantly in the diabetes patients ( HR=1.29, 95% CI: 1.07-1.56), while no additional risk for cardiovascular disease was observed in non-diabetes patients ( HR=1.06, 95% CI: 0.97-1.16). Conclusions:Compliancy to the medication required by the guideline is associated with lower risk for cardiovascular disease. However, it is still necessary to improve the medication compliancy in people at high risk in primary prevention, especially in the patients with hyperlipidemia, due to their low taking rate of lipid-lowering drugs. Additionally, as the requirement of the guideline becomes more stringent, the management of disease has met more challenges. Notably, diabetes patients who have not met the guideline requirement are at high risk for cardiovascular disease, to whom the disease management should be strengthened.

Chinese Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma 2025;27(2):156-162
Objective:To explore advantages of CT and MRI imaging in clinical assessment of specific indicators (trochlear dysplasia and tibial tubercle lateralization) of acute patellar dislocation in adolescents by comparing CT versus MRI imaging. Methods:A retrospective study was conducted to analyze the CT and MRI imaging data of 73 patients with acute patellar dislocation who had been admitted to Department of Orthopedics, The Second Hospital of Tangshan from January 2014 to September 2024. There were 37 males (21 left knees and 16 right knees) and 36 females (19 left knees and 17 right knees), with a mean age of 15 (13, 16) years. On MRI images, the distance between the patellar tendon-trochlear groove (PT-TG) was measured. On CT images, the distance between the tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove (TT-TG) was measured. Additionally, the distance from the tibial tubercle-Roman arch (TT-RA), the sulcus angle (SA), the trochlear depth (TD), the lateral trochlear inclination (LTI), and the trochlear facet asymmetry (TFA) were measured on both MRI and CT images. Results:The TT-TG measured on CT [(20.47±4.42) mm] was significantly greater than that on MRI [(17.89±4.23) mm] ( t = -4.047, P < 0.001). The TT-RA [(24.28±4.27) mm], TD [2.95 (2.36, 4.08) mm], LTI (15.4°±3.85°), and TFA [0.42 (0.38, 0.49)] measured on CT were all significantly greater than those on MRI [(21.34±3.99) mm, 2.52 (1.64, 2.98) mm, 14.11°±3.58°, 0.38 (0.34, 0.44)] ( P < 0.001). The SA measured on CT (151.30°±6.74°) was significantly less than that measured on MRI (159.06°±5.40°) ( P < 0.001). The intra-observer ICC values for all indicators were greater than 0.9, and the inter-observer ICC values greater than 0.85. Conclusions:There are differences between CT and MRI in each indicator in evaluation of acute patellar dislocation in adolescents. The PT-TG measured on MRI and the TT-RA measured on CT can better evaluate the tibial tubercle lateralization; the indicators for trochlear dysplasia measured on MRI respond better to the severity of trochlea dysplasia than those on CT.

The self-administered basic data questionnaire and SF-36 Scale were applied to investigate the basic conditions, daily behaviors and survival quality of the research objects. And the microwave exposure doses of each post were measured. The differences in basic conditions, daily behaviors and survival quality of the microwave exposure group and the administrative control group were analyzed. And logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of survival quality in the microwave exposure group. Results:There were significant differences in gender, age, marital status, smoking status and sleep status between the microwave exposure group and the administrative control group ( P<0.05) . The microwave exposure group had lower scores than the administrative control group in the six dimensions of role physical, body pain, general health, vitality, social function, mental health and SF-36 average total score, and had higher score in reported health transition ( P<0.05) . The logistic regression analysis showed that the probability of low total SF-36 score in microwave exposure group with bachelor's degree or above was 0.46 times that of junior college degree (95% CI: 0.24-0.90, P=0.023) . The probability of low total SF-36 score in microwave exposure group with exercised 4 or more times per week was 4.27 times that of those who never or occasionally exercised (95% CI: 1.41-13.00, P=0.010) . The probabilities of low total SF-36 score in microwave exposure group with sleep light and dream, wake up in the middle night and hard to fall asleep were 11.04 and 7.38 times higher than those without sleep disturbance (95% CI: 3.35-36.32, P<0.001; 95% CI: 1.42-38.50, P=0.018) . The probability of low total SF-36 score in microwave exposure group with daily dose of 1.74 μW·h/cm 2 was 1.75 times that of the daily dose of 1.02 μW·h/cm 2 (95% CI: 1.08-3.82, P=0.008) . Conclusion:The education level, physical exercise, sleep status and microwave exposure dose are important factors affecting the survival quality of microwave exposed personnel. Occupational health education and behavioral life intervention should be strengthened to improve their survival quality.
