Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2026;32(1):117-124
ObjectiveTo explore an centralized clinical practice teaching model delivered via a summer short-term semester, and to examine its effectiveness on empathy and communication efficacy among undergraduate students majoring in rehabilitation therapy through a mixed-methods design. MethodsFrom June to July, 2025, forty second-year rehabilitation therapy undergraduates from Nanchang Medical College participated in a one-week immersive clinical practice during the summer short-term semester. An action research framework integrating a one-group pre-post experimental design and qualitative research methods were adopted. Quantitative data were collected using the Chinese-Adapted Jefferson Scale of Empathy-Medical Student Version (JSE-HP) to assess changes in empathy. Qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured focus group interviews and structured reflective journals to investigate students' experiences and transformations in empathic cognition, emotional integration and professional identity. ResultsAfter the teaching intervention, students demonstrated significant improvements in the total score of JSE-HP and all subdimensions (perspective taking, compassionate care and standing in the patient's shoes) (t < -3.69, P < 0.01). Qualitative analysis yielded three core themes: reconstruction of clinical reasoning paradigms, emotional-cognitive integration and elevation of professional identity. ConclusionSummer short-term semester clinical practice model, structured around “clinical immersion, narrative reflection, interprofessional collaboration and formative assessment”, effectively facilitates embodied cultivation of empathy. This model not only bridges the gap between theory and clinical practice, but also serves as an educational catalyst for students' transformation from technical performers to humanistic caregivers. It aligns with the core concepts of the World Health Organization rehabilitation competency framework, offering a replicable and scalable approach to advancing systematic reform in medical humanities education.

Compared to traditional suturing, lung stapling using automatic staplers offers advantages such as smaller trauma, faster wound healing, ease of operation, and lower complication rates, making it widely used in clinical practice. However, there are significant differences in bronchial tissue thickness at different anatomical locations, and the market is flooded with various types of staplers. Currently, there is a lack of recommended stapling schemes for bronchial staplers at different anatomical locations. This article reviews the development and application of automatic staplers and summarizes some types of staplers that are currently used in clinical practice, with the aim of promoting the formation of individualized stapler selection protocols for minimally invasive thoracic surgery based on the Chinese population.

This study aims to observe the mind-tranquilizing effect of Fushen Decoction on mice and investigate its effects on the 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) system and γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA) in the brain of the mouse model of 4-chloro-DL-phenylalanine(PCPA)-induced insomnia. ICR mice were administrated with coffee(1 g·kg~(-1)) for 3 days, and the effects of Fushen Decoction(10, 20, and 40 g·kg~(-1)) on the autonomic activities of normal mice and coffee-treated mice were observed. Furthermore, the effects of Fushen Decoction on the autonomic activity and sleep induced by a suprathreshold dose of pentobarbital sodium in the mouse model of PCPA(350 mg·kg~(-1) for 3 consecutive days)-induced insomnia were observed. The levels of tryptophan hydroxylase(TPH), 5-hydroxytryptophan(5-HTP), and 5-HT in the serum, as well as those of 5-HTP and 5-HT in the brain stem, hippocampus, and cortex, were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The fluorescence intensity of 5-HT in the raphe nucleus, hippocampus, and cortex was measured by the immunofluorescence method. The protein levels of tryptophan hydroxylase-2(TPH2) and 5-HT_(1A) receptor(5-HT_(1A)R) in the brain stem, hippocampus, and cortex were measured by Western blot. The levels of GABA in the hypothalamus, hippocampus, and cortex were measured by ELISA and immunohistochemistry methods. The results showed that Fushen Decoction(20, 40 g·kg~(-1)) reduced the number of autonomous activities in normal mice, coffee-treated mice, and the mouse model of PCPA-induced insomnia, and prolonged the duration of sleep induced by a suprathreshold dose of pentobarbital sodium in the mouse model. Fushen Decoction(20, 40 g·kg~(-1)) elevated the levels of TPH, 5-HTP, and 5-HT in the serum, and TPH2, 5-HTP, 5-HT, and 5-HT_(1A)R in the brain stem, hippocampus, and cortex, and up-regulated GABA expression in the hypothalamus, cortex, and hippocampus of the mouse model of PCPA-induced insomnia. In conclusion, Fushen Decoction(20, 40 g·kg~(-1)) exerted a mind-tranquilizing effect on mice by up-regulating the expression of TPH2, enhancing the 5-HT system, and elevating the GABA level in the brain.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;66(23):2401-2405
By reconstructing the integrated Chinese and western medicine diagnostic and treatment system, the "Two Reconstructions" theoretical framework establishes a standardized pathway of "classification-staging-syndrome differentiation", which improves the accuracy of disease identification and strengthens the capacity for full-course intervention; in addition, by reconstructing the modern materia medica system, it innovatively integrates the traditional properties and efficacy of Chinese herbal medicinals with modern pharmacological mechanisms, forming a "state-target co-regulation" precise medication model, and builds a dose-effect theoretical system for prescriptions and medicinals, thereby enhancing both the targeting accuracy and dosage precision of therapeutic interventions. The "Two Reconstructions" theorecitcal framework is a key strategy for enhancing clinical efficacy. It can precisely identify "states" and "targets" for directed intervention, shift the focus of prevention and treatment earlier to enable full-cycle management, establish standardized paradigms for reproducible and evaluable efficacy, and expand the scope of clinical practice to address conditions without typical syndromes and critical illnesses. As a systematic pathway for innovation in TCM, this theoretical framework provides valuable insights and references for promoting the high-quality development of integrative Chinese and western medicine.

Angle class Ⅱ malocclusion is often characterized by mandibular retraction and lip incompetence, which affects the patient's lateral appearance and may even lead to upper airway stenosis. It can be classified into dental and skeletal types. For skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion patients with mandibular retraction during the peak growth period, mandibular anterior guidance with a functional orthodontic appliance is generally considered as the optimal clinical treatment approach. At present, there remains a paucity of clinical reports on the clinical application of bracket-free clear aligners in mandibular anterior guidance, both domestically and internationally. This article presented a case of an adolescent patient with skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion accompanied with deep overbite treated with bracket-free clear aligner for mandibular anterior guidance in combination with intermaxillary class Ⅱ traction.During the treatment, vertical correction involved anterior intrusion of the anterior teeth to improve the deep overbite, while horizontal correction included maxillary and mandibular expansion to coordinate the width of the dental arches, and asymmetric anterior guidance was used to correct the midline deviation. After 35 months of treatment, the patient's convex facial profile and mandibular retrusion were significantly improved. The subspinale-nasion-supramentale angle(ANB)was decreased from 6.8° to 3.9°,the overbite and overjet were normalized, and the bilateral canine and molar reached a neutral relationship. The mentolabial sulcus depth(Si-LiPg′)and the soft tissue thickness of pogonion to pogonion(Pm-Pm′)were decreased, resulting in a shallower mentolabial sulcus and a more harmonized lateral facial soft tissue profile. The mandibular incisor to mandibular plane angle(IMPA)was decreased from 116.6° to 110.7°,indicating retraction of the lower incisors during mandibular anterior guidance. In conclusion, the orthodontic strategy of mandibular advancement with clear aligners in skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion patients can avoid excessive overcompensation of the upper and lower anterior teeth and shorten the orthodontic treatment cycle.
