AIM: To evaluate the repeatability and accuracy of iCare IC100 tonometer in measuring intraocular pressure(IOP)by comparing the correlation and difference with Goldmann applanation tonometry(GAT)and non-contact tonometer(NCT), and to compare the correlation of the three types of IOP measurement with the central corneal thickness(CCT).METHODS: Prospective study. A total of 90 outpatients(90 eyes)in Liaoning Aier Eye Hospital from March 2019 to May 2019 were randomly selected as study subjects. All patients were measured IOP using iCare IC100, NCT, and GAT. The interclass correlation coefficient(ICC)was used to evaluate the repeatability of IOP measured 3 times consecutively using an intraocular tonometer. The correlation and consistency of iCare IC100, GAT and NCT were compared by one-way ANOVA, Pearson linear correlation analysis and Bland-Altman analysis. The linear regression analysis was used to analyze the correlation of the three tonometers with CCT.RESULTS: The mean IOP measured with iCare IC100, GAT and NCT was 19.74±6.90, 19.88±7.07 and 18.47±6.31 mmHg, respectively(F=1.180, P=0.309). The measurements of iCare IC100 with GAT, iCare IC100 with NCT and GAT with NCT were all positively correlated(r=0.930, 0.946, 0.918, all P<0.05), the Bland-Altman analysis showed that the mean differences between iCare IC100 and GAT, iCare IC100 and NCT, GAT and NCT were -0.142±2.61, 1.27±2.24, and 1.41±2.81 mmHg, respectively, with 97%(87/90), 96%(86/90), and 97%(87/90)IOP differences distributed within their 95% confidence intervals. The IOP measured with iCare IC100 and CCT, GAT and CCT and NCT and CCT were all positively correlated(r=0.426, 0.353, 0.451, all P<0.01). The linear regression equations between iCare IC100, GAT and NCT measurement and CCT were iCare IC100 IOP=-19.62+0.074×CCT; GAT IOP=-13.54+0.063×CCT; NCT IOP=-19.65+0.072×CCT; that is, for every 10 μm increase in CCT, iCare IC100 measurement increased by 0.74 mmHg, GAT measurement increased by 0.63 mmHg, and NCT measurement increased by 0.72 mmHg.CONCLUSION: The iCare IC100 tonometer has good repeatability and accuracy in measuring IOP, and the CCT has a greater impact on the measurement of iCare IC100 than the GAT and NCT.

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) are common congenital craniofacial developmental disorders with a high incidence rate among newborns. Due to the influence of the cleft, an increased frequency of anomalies occurs in cleft-adjacent teeth. This review summarizes the abnormality of tooth development and malposition characteristics of the central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines adjacent to the alveolar cleft in CLP patients and treatment progress in order to provide information for related clinical treatment and research. The literature reveals that central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines adjacent to the alveolar cleft exhibit various types and degrees of abnormalities. The alveolar cleft-adjacent central incisors show significantly smaller mesiodistal diameters, root lengths, and root volumes compared to the non-alveolar cleft side, while the crown-to-root ratio is larger. Further, they are inclined distally and lingually compared to the non-alveolar cleft side. The alveolar cleft-adjacent lateral incisor is the most common missing or impacted tooth and is often affected by microdontia. The total length and root length of the alveolar cleft-adjacent canines are significantly smaller, while the crown-to-root ratio is larger on the alveolar cleft side. In addition, they are inclined mesially and buccally compared to the non-alveolar cleft side. Further, they are higher positioned and located closer to the midline. For developmental anomalies, impacted central incisors can be addressed by orthodontic space preparation to facilitate eruption or surgical crown exposure and orthodontic traction. Treatment of missing lateral incisors can involve orthodontic closure of the gap or preservation of the space for subsequent prosthetic restoration. When lateral incisors present with developmental defects, such as microdontia, peg-shaped teeth, or invaginated teeth, a comprehensive decision is necessary to determine whether to retain and restore or extract the malformed lateral incisors. Treatment of impacted canines after bone grafting involves either extraction or traction to facilitate the eruption of the impacted tooth. For malposition, presurgical orthodontic treatment can correct teeth with excessive inclination or rotation on the cleft side to improve the effectiveness of bone grafting surgery. Postsurgical orthodontic treatment can enhance the stability of bone grafting surgery. Although numerous studies have explored the dental characteristics of patients with CLP, the lack of applicability and specificity still need to be elucidated, thus indicating the need for further research.

BACKGROUND: Previous evidence showed that ambient air pollution and cardiovascular mortality are related. However, there is a lack of evidence towards the modification effect of long-term lifestyle on the association between short-term ambient air pollution and death from cardiovascular events. METHOD: A total of 14,609 death from major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) were identified among the China Kadoorie Biobank participants from 2013 to 2018. Ambient air pollution exposure including particulate matter 2.5 (PM_2.5), SO₂, NO₂, CO, and O₃ from the same period were obtained from space-time model reconstructions based on remote sensing data. Case-crossover design and conditional logistic regression was applied to estimate the effect of short-term exposure to air pollutants on MACE mortality. RESULTS: We found MACE mortality was significantly associated with PM_2.5 (relative percent increase 2.91% per 10 µg/m³ increase, 95% CI 1.32-4.53), NO₂ (5.37% per 10 µg/m³ increase, 95% CI 1.56-9.33), SO₂ (6.82% per 10 µg/m³ increase, 95% CI 2.99-10.80), and CO (2.24% per 0.1 mg/m³ increase, 95% CI 1.02-3.48). Stratified analyses indicated that drinking was associated with elevated risk of MACE mortality with NO₂ and SO₂ exposure; physical inactivity was associated with higher risk of death from MACE when exposed to PM_2.5; and people who had balanced diet had lower risk of MACE mortality when exposed to CO and NO₂. CONCLUSIONS The study results showed that short-term exposure to ambient PM_2.5, NO₂, SO₂, and CO would aggravate the risk of cardiovascular mortality, yet healthy lifestyle conduct might mitigate such negative impact to some extent.

OBJECTIVE To establish a rapid analytical method to identify the chemical components in Xitong preparations for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled triple time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Triple-TOF-MS/MS). METHODS The analysis was performed on an ACQUITY UPLC HSS T3 (2.1 mm×150 mm, 1.8 μm) column with the mobile phase consisting of water containing 0.1% formic acid(A) and acetonitrile containing 0.1% formic acid(B) in gradient mode at a flow rate of 0.3 mL·min−1. Data acquisition was carried out under positive and negative ion modes. The processed data was analyzed by Peakview software and compound database. The chemical components were determined by comparison with standard products, combining with the characteristic fragments in secondary MS, and those in the related literatures. RESULTS Seventy-eight compounds were identified including 20 phenylpropanoids, 33 terpenes, 19 flavonoids, 6 oxylipins, two of which might be new compounds. CONCLUSION The method can be used for rapid identification of chemical compositions in Xitong preparations, which provides basis for quality control and elucidation of phamarcodynamic material basis of Xitong pills and capsules .

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of a modified sericin hydrogel scaffold loaded with dexamethasone(SMH-CD/DEX)scaffold for promoting bone defect healing by stimulating anti-inflammatory macrophage polarization.Methods The light-curable SMH-CD/DEX scaffold was prepared using dexamethasone-loaded NH2-β-cyclodextrin(NH2-β-CD)and sericin hydrogel and characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),biocompatibility assessment and drug release test.THP-1 macrophages incubated with the scaffold were examined for protein expressions of iNOS and Arg-1,mRNA expressions of IL-6,Il-10,Arg-1 and iNOS,and surface markers CD86 and CD206 using Western blotting,RT-qPCR,and flow cytometry.In a co-culture system of human periodontal ligament stem cells(HPDLSCs)and THP-1 macrophages,the osteogenic ability of the stem cells incubated with the scaffold was evaluated by detecting protein expressions of COL1A1 and Runx2 and expressions of ALP,Runx2,OCN and BMP2 mRNA,ALP staining,and alizarin red staining.In a rat model of mandibular bone defect,the osteogenic effect of the scaffold was assessed by observing bone regeneration using micro-CT and histopathological staining.Results In THP-1 macrophages,incubation with SMH-CD/DEX scaffold significantly enhanced protein expressions of Arg-1 and mRNA expressions of IL-10 and Arg-1 and lowered iNOS protein expression and IL-6 and iNOS mRNA expressions.In the co-culture system,SMH-CD/DEX effectively increased the protein expressions of COL1A1 and Runx2 and mRNA expressions of ALP and BMP2 in HPDLSCs and promoted their osteogenic differentiation.In the rat models,implantation of SMH-CD/DEX scaffold significantly promoted bone repair and bone regeneration in the bone defect.Conclusion The SMH-CD/DEX scaffold capable of sustained dexamethasone release promotes osteogenic differentiation of stem cells and bone defect repair in rats by regulating M2 polarization.

In this study,we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the postoperative nursing care for patients undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation in conjunction with minimally invasive left ventricular assist device implantation.The main nursing considerations include the following aspects.Regular assessment of the pulsation of bilateral lower limb arteries was conducted in order to maintain vigilance against the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis;the goal-oriented fluid management strategies were executed;it was crucial to focus on gastrointestinal responses and take steps to prevent gastrointestinal bleeding;the monitoring of chest indicators and respiratory function was enhanced to facilitate early detection of pneumothorax;the optimization of pain management was maximized.Following meticulous care and medical attention,the patient was transferred to the general ward on the 8th day post-surgery.On the 21st day after the procedure,the patient achieved full recovery and was subsequently discharged.

Objective:To evaluate the application of the pain visual analogue scale (VAS) in Chinese clinical researchers by analyzing the literature related to the VAS for pain in the Chinese Medical Journal Database in the past three years.Methods:The literature was searched from the Chinese Medical Journal Full Text Database from 2021 to 2023 using four Chinese vocabulary words that might be translated into " visual analog scale". The text, figures and tables in the " Materials and Methods" and " Results" sections of the literature that reflected authors′ application of VAS were analyzed after screening. Any errors or inadequacies in the definition of VAS, the target population, methods of pain intensity labeling and numerical acquisition, numerical units, and the cut-off points of VAS when converted to the verbal rating scale were identified and analyzed.Results:A total of 2 377 articles were retrieved, and 2 108 articles were finally included. Among the 2 108 articles, there were very few papers with completely correct description and expression of VAS, while 99.86% had errors or inappropriate aspects. The majority of the literature (77.00% to 95.11%) did not address the other key analysis points in this study, except for the challenging aspects of study subjects and VAS numerical units. In 2.51% of the literature, VAS was considered unsuitable for the study subject. About 14.56% of the literature contained incorrect descriptions of VAS definition. Only 7.21% and 3.98% of the literature accurately described the methods of pain intensity labeling and numerical acquisition for VAS. In 92.13% of the literature, VAS values were measured in " points". The VAS was confused with the numerical rating scale in up to 17.55% of the literature when converting into the verbal rating scale.Conclusions:Chinese clinical researchers lack sufficient knowledge about the VAS, and there are numerous errors or inappropriate aspects in their paper writing, which should be given sufficient attention.

Purpose: The effect of soy products on prostate cancer (PCA) remains a topic of debate. This study aimed to investigate the association between soy products consumption and the incidence of PCA. Materials and Methods: A search was conducted in the PubMed, EBSCO, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases up to December 2023. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to assess the association. Results: A total of 22 articles, comprising 1,409,213 participants, were included for this meta-analysis. The results indicate that soy products reduce the risk of PCA (OR=0.94, 95% CI=0.91–0.97, p<0.001), especially in cases of localized or low-grade PCA (OR=0.94, 95% CI=0.90–0.97, p<0.001), but exhibit no effect on non-localized or high-grade PCA (OR=0.96, 95% CI=0.91–1.01, p=0.085).Furthermore, increased consumption frequency was negatively associated with PCA risk. Specifically, soy products can reduce the risk of PCA in African Americans (OR=0.89, p=0.006) and Latinos (OR=0.93, p=0.036), but have no impact on Japanese (OR=0.99, p=0.655), Chinese (OR=0.90, p=0.155), and Whites (OR=0.96, p=0.133). Non-fermented soy products were associated with a reduction in the incidence rate of PCA (OR=0.93, 95% CI=0.90–0.96, p<0.001), while fermented soy products had no effect on the incidence rate of PCA (OR=1.10, 95% CI=0.98–1.22, p=0.096). Conclusions The consumption of soy products can reduce the overall risk of PCA among men. Various factors, including soy products-related factors (e.g., consumption, frequency), population-related factors (e.g., race), and PCA-related factors (e.g., PCA stage) collectively influence the effect of soy products on PCA.
