OBJECTIVES:
To assess the effectiveness of the comparison between pit and fissure sealants and fluoride varnishes, as well as various types of sealants, in preventing caries on the occlusal surface of children's first permanent molars (FPM).
METHODS:
Conduct a comprehensive search of literature published between January 1, 1988, and May 30, 2024, in the following databases: China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, China Science Periodical Database and China Biology Medicine database. Meta-analysis and subgroup analyses were performed on the literature that met the inclusion criteria.
RESULTS:
A total of 5 618 pieces of literature were retrieved, resulting in the inclusion of 14 in the study. Meta-analysis showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the efficacy between varies pit and fissure sealants compared to fluoride varnishes, and between varies types of sealants in preventing caries on the occlusal surface of children's first permanent molars within 24 months post-surgery (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
Within 24 months, there was no significant difference in the effectiveness of using resin-based or glass iomomer pit and fissure sealants compared with fluoride varnishes in preventing occlusal caries in FPM in children; within 24 months, there was no significant difference in the effectiveness of using resin-based sealants compared with ART sealants in preventing occlusal caries in FPM in children. ART sealants are recommended over resin-based sealers for children who have no conditions for chair-side manipulation or who are poorly co-operative.

Objective To investigate the association between butyrate metabolism-related genes(BMRGs)and the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD),construct a prognostic model, and evaluate its predictive value. Methods Differentially expressed BMRGs(BMR-DEGs)were screened from the TCGA-LUAD dataset.Cox and LASSO regression analyses were employed to establish a risk scoring model, stratifying patients into low-and high-risk groups. The model's performance was assessed using Kaplan-Meier(K-M)and receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves, with external validation conducted using the GSE68465 dataset. In vitro experiments included RT-PCR and Western blotting to measure insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1(IGFBP1)expression.IGFBP1 was knocked down using siRNA,and its effects on cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were evaluated via CCK-8,colony formation,Transwell, and wound healing assays.Gene Set Enrichment Analysis(GSEA)was performed to explore IGFBP1-related regulatory mechanisms. Results We identified a total of 51 BMR-DEGs,primarily involved in biological processes such as cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and associated with the PI3K-Akt and MAPK signaling pathways. The constructed 5-gene risk scoring model demonstrated that high-risk patients had significantly worse overall survival(OS)than low-risk patients(P<0.05).IGFBP1 was highly expressed in LUAD tissues and correlated with poor prognosis.Knockdown of IGFBP1 significantly suppressed cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion(P<0.05).GSEA revealed that IGFBP1 was linked to lipid metabolism-related pathways. Conclusion BMRGs are associated with LUAD prognosis, and the established risk scoring model exhibits strong predictive performance.High IGFBP1 expression correlates with unfavorable outcomes, and its knockdown inhibits cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.

Objective:To investigate the effects of area of the posterior malleolus fracture and injury to the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis on functional recovery of the ankle joint in Bartoní?ek type 2 ankle fractures. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted of the clinical data of 47 patients with Bartoní?ek type 2 ankle fracture who had been treated at Department of Orthopedics, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University from January 2016 to January 2022. There were 22 males and 25 females with an age of (46.0±15.6) years. All patients were treated by open reduction and closed reduction. Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to investigate the relationships respectively between the American Association of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot scores at the last follow-up and the preoperative proportion of posterior ankle fracture area, and the anterior and posterior tibiofibular distances. Results:All patients were followed up for (17.2±0.6) months after surgery. The Pearson correlation analysis showed that the proportion of posterior ankle fracture area ( P=0.160) and the posterior tibiofibular distance ( P=0.078) were significantly correlated with the AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score at the last follow-up. There was no significant correlation between the anterior tibiofibular distance and the AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score at the last follow-up ( P=0.689). The multiple regression analysis showed that the proportion of posterior ankle fracture area ( P=0.043) and the posterior tibiofibular distance ( P=0.022) had significant negative effects on the AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score at the last follow-up. Conclusions:In Bartoní?ek type 2 ankle fractures, the proportion of posterior ankle fracture area and the posterior tibiofibular distance are important predictors for postoperative functional recovery of the ankle. Therefore, in Bartoní?ek type 2 ankle fractures, surgical indications for the posterior malleolar fracture depend not only on the size of the fracture, but also on whether the fracture involves the lower tibiofibular syndesmosis.

Objective:Adverse cardiovascular events are the leading cause of death in peritoneal dialysis patients.Identifying indicators that can predict adverse cardiovascular events in these patients is crucial for prognosis. This study aims to assess the value of dual-specificity phosphatase 6(DUSP6)in peripheral blood mononuclear cells as a predictor of adverse cardiovascular events after peritoneal dialysis in diabetic nephropathy patients. Methods:A total of 124 diabetic nephropathy patients underwent peritoneal dialysis treatment at the Department of Nephrology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University from June to September 2022 were selected as study subjects. The levels of DUSP6 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were determined using Western blotting.Patients were categorized into high-level and low-level DUSP6 groups based on the median DUSP6 level.Differences in body mass index, serum albumin,high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and dialysis duration were compared between the 2 groups.Pearson,Spearman, and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to examine factors related to DUSP6.Patients were followed up to monitor the occurrence of adverse cardiovascular events, and risk factors for adverse cardiovascular events after peritoneal dialysis were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression. Results:By the end of the follow-up,33(26.61%)patients had experienced at least one adverse cardiovascular event. The high-level DUSP6 group had higher body mass index, longer dialysis duration, and higher high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, but lower serum albumin levels compared to the low-level DUSP6 group(all P<0.05).DUSP6 was negatively correlated with serum albumin levels(r=-0.271,P=0.002)and positively correlated with dialysis duration(rs=0.406,P<0.001)and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(rs=0.367,P<0.001).Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that dialysis duration and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein were independently correlated with DUSP6 levels(both P<0.05).The cumulative incidence of adverse cardiovascular events was higher in the high-level DUSP6 group than in the low-level DUSP6 group(46.67%vs 7.81%,P<0.001).Cox regression analysis indicated that low serum albumin levels(HR=0.836,95%CI 0.778 to 0.899),high high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(HR=1.409,95%CI 1.208 to 1.644),and high DUSP6(HR=6.631,95%CI 2.352 to 18.693)were independent risk factors for adverse cardiovascular events in peritoneal dialysis patients. Conclusion:Dialysis duration and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein are independently associated with DUSP6 levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of diabetic nephropathy patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis.High DUSP6 levels indicate a higher risk of adverse cardiovascular events.
