Food-derived bioactive peptides (FBPs), particularly those with ten or fewer amino acid residues and a molecular weight below 1300 Da, have gained increasing attention for their safe, diverse structures and specific biological activities. The development of FBP-based functional foods and potential medications depends on understanding their structure‒activity relationships (SARs), stability, and bioavailability properties. In this review, we provide an in-depth overview of the roles of FBPs in treating various diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, liver diseases, and inflammatory bowel diseases, based on the literature from July 2017 to Mar. 2023. Subsequently, attention is directed toward elucidating the associations between the bioactivities and structural characteristics (e.g., molecular weight and the presence of specific amino acids within sequences and compositions) of FBPs. We also discuss in silico approaches for FBP screening and their limitations. Finally, we summarize recent advancements in formulation techniques to improve the bioavailability of FBPs in the food industry, thereby contributing to healthcare applications.

Objective:To explore the mechanism of Jianpi Qingchang Decoction in the treatment of UC by integrating network pharmacology, bioinformatics, molecular docking and experimental verification.Methods:The effective components and targets of Jianpi Qingchang Decoction were obtained from TCMSP database, and UC data sets GSE16879, GSE48958 and GSE75214 were obtained from GEO database, and differentially expressed genes were screened; intersection targets were obtained through Venn diagram, and GO function and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis was performed. An intersection target PPI network was constructed using STRING database and topology analysis was performed; hub genes were screened through lasso regression and the expression consistency of core targets in the dataset was verified through logistic regression. A UC mouse model was established and hub genes were validated.Results:A total of 213 drug targets of Jianpi Qingchang Decoction were obtained, and 499 common intersection targets of GSE16879, GSE48958 and GSE75214 were obtained by differential gene expression analysis. Thirty intersection targets of Jianpi Qingchang Decoction and UC were obtained, mainly acting on IL-17 signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, etc. PPI network topology analysis obtained 7 common intersection targets, including PTGS2, IL-1B, IL-6, MMP9, CXCL8, CCL2 and MMP2. IL-6 and MMP2 were selected as hub genes by lasso regression. Logistics regression analysis showed that IL-6 and MMP2 were risk factors for the disease. Compared with the model group, the expressions of IL-6 and MMP2 mRNA and protein in the colon tissue of the TCM group decreased ( P<0.05), and the morphology of colon tissue was improved compared with the model group. Conclusion:IL-6 and MMP2 are risk factors for UC, the therapeutic effect of Jianpi Qingchang Decoction is to mediate Il-17 signal pathway, TNF signal pathway and AGE-RAGE signal pathway in diabetic complications through the targets of IL-6, and MMP2, thereby treating UC.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy of arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction using composite autologous patch graft combined with tenodesis of the long head of the biceps tendon in the treatment of irreparable massive rotator cuff tears (IMRCT).Methods:A retrospective case series study was performed on 11 IMRCT patients who were admitted to Affiliated Fuyang Hospital of Bengbu Medical University (Fuyang People′s Hospital) from May 2020 to June 2022, including 7 males and 4 females, aged 54-74 years [(62.6±7.3)years]. All the patients were treated with arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction using composite patch graft combined with tenodesis of the long head of the biceps tendon. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Acromiohumeral Distance (AHD), Constant-Murley score and University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) score and active range of motion of the shoulder joint before, at 6 months after surgery and at the last follow-up were compared. At the last follow-up, the integrity of reconstructed superior capsule and the long head of the biceps tendon was evaluated using MRI of the shoulder joint. Postoperative complications were observed.Results:All the patients were followed up for 13-39 months [16(13, 36)months]. The VAS score, AHD, Constant-Murley score, and UCLA score were 2(2, 3)points, (9.1±1.1)mm, (56.1±5.4)points, and (19.7±2.8)points respectively at 6 months after surgery, which were all significantly improved from those before surgery [6(5, 7)points, (5.1±1.2)mm, (37.9±2.2)points, and (11.8±1.2)points] ( P<0.05). The VAS score, AHD, Constant-Murley score, and UCLA score were 0(0, 1)points, (8.4±0.9)mm, (83.6±3.8)points, and (28.2±2.3)points respectively at the last follow-up, which were all significantly improved from those before surgery ( P<0.05). At the last follow-up, the VAS score or AHD were not significantly improved from those at 6 months after surgery ( P>0.05); Constant-Murley score and UCLA score were both significantly improved from those at 6 months after surgery ( P<0.05). At 6 months after surgery, shoulder active ranges of motion in forward flexion, abduction and external rotation were (134.6±13.5)°, (124.6±18.6)° and 45(40, 50)° respectively, which were all significantly improved compared with those before surgery [(63.2±36.1)°, (65.0±23.1)°, and [30(20, 40)°] ( P<0.05). At the last follow-up, shoulder active ranges of motion in forward flexion, abduction and external rotation were (144.1±12.6)°, (139.6±15.4)° and 60(45, 65)° respectively, which were all significantly improved compared with those before surgery ( P<0.05). There were no significant differences in active range of motion of the shoulder in forward flexion, abduction and external rotation between 6 months after surgery and the last follow-up ( P>0.05). At the last follow-up, MRI revealed integrity of the reconstructed superior joint capsule and the long head of the biceps tendon in 10 patients. One patient developed resorption of the greater tuberosity and 1 showed a partial tear of the supraspinatus tendon at 1 year after surgery. Conclusion:Arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction using composite autologous patch graft combined with tenodesis of the long head of the biceps tendon can relieve shoulder pain, decrease upward displacement of the humerus head, improve the function and range of motion of the shoulder joint, and reduce complications in the treatment of IMRCT.

OBJECTIVE: A prospective study was conducted to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of three-dimensional printed in vitro guide plates assisted hip arthroscopy in the treatment of Cam-type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). METHODS: The clinical data of 25 patients with Cam-type FAI who met the selection criteria between December 2016 and September 2022 were collected. There were 13 males and 12 females with an average age of 42 years (range, 19-66 years). The disease duration ranged from 3 to 120 months, with an average of 22.2 months. The preoperative range of internal rotation-external rotation was (28.70±4.50)°, α angle was (69.04±0.99)°, visual analogue scale (VAS) score was 6.5±0.2, and modified Harris hip score (HHS) was 50.5±0.7. All patients were treated with hip arthroscopy assisted by three-dimensional printed in vitro guide plate. The occurrence of complications was observed postoperatively, α angle of the affected hip joint was measured on Dunn X-ray film, and the glenoid labrum injury was observed by MRI. The percentage of overlap between the Cam plasty area and the preoperative simulated grinding area was calculated by three-dimensional CT+reconstruction. The effectiveness was evaluated by VAS score and modified HHS score. RESULTS: Postoperative dorsalis pedis numbness occurred in 1 case, and the symptoms disappeared after 1 month of conventional drug treatment such as neurotrophy. Two cases of perineal skin injury occurred, and healed after symptomatic treatment. There was no male erectile dysfunction, deep incision infection, pulmonary embolism, or other serious complications occurred. The percentage of overlap between the Cam plasty area and the preoperative simulated grinding area was 81.6%-95.3%, with an average of 89.8%. All 25 patients were followed up 6-12 months, with an average of 8 months. At last follow-up, the range of internal rotation-external rotation was (40.10±2.98)°, α angle was (43.72±0.84)°, VAS score was 1.8±0.2, and the modified HHS score was 72.1±1.3, which significantly improved when compared with preoperative ones ( P<0.05). CONCLUSION The treatment of Cam-type FAI with three-dimensional printed in vitro guide plates assisted hip arthroscopy is safe and feasible, and can achieve good effectiveness.

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is one of the common complications of liver cirrhosis and is associated with the poor prognosis of liver disease. Rivaroxaban, a novel direct oral anticoagulant, exerts an antithrombotic effect by directly acting on the active center of factor Xa to inhibit the generation of thrombin, and it is a new choice for long-term anticoagulant treatment of PVT in liver cirrhosis with the advantages of direct oral administration and no need for international normalized ratio (INR) monitoring. In recent years, more and more clinical studies have shown that rivaroxaban is relatively safe and effective in the treatment of PVT in liver cirrhosis; however, there is still little experience in the application of rivaroxaban in the treatment of PVT in liver cirrhosis in the current clinical practice, and individualized medication regimen remains to be clarified. This article reviews the research advances in rivaroxaban in the treatment of PVT in liver cirrhosis, in order to provide new ideas for the clinical treatment of PVT in liver cirrhosis.

Objective: To understand the situation of ticks carrying pathogens in border areas of Heilongjiang province. Methods: From 2009 to 2018, tick specimens were collected in Yichun, Daxing′anling area and Jiamusi in Heilongjiang province. A total of 2 530 ticks were studied, including 800 Ixodes persulcatus and 1 730 Dermacentor silvarum. Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV), omsk hemorrhagic fever virus (OHFV), langat virus (LGTV), powassan virus (POWV) were detected by real-time RT-PCR. Spotted fever group rickettsia (SFGR) and Borrelia burgdorferi sensulato (B.b.s.l) were detected by PCR in ticks collected from Jiamusi area. Results: All tick speciments collected were negative for TBEV, SFTSV, OHFV, LGTV and POWV. Tick specimens from Jiamusi carried SFGR and B. b.s.l.with positive rates of 59.5% and 8.9%. Conclusions The ticks in border areas of Heilongjiang province carry spotted fever group rickettsia and Borrelia burgdorferi, and the carrying rate of spotted fever group rickettsia is high. The monitoring and control of ticks and tick-borne diseases should be strengthened.

Objective To observe the changes of serum complements and proinflammatory cytokines in rats with sepsis, and to explore the possible mechanism.Methods 120 healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal control group (n = 15), sham operation group (n = 15) and sepsis group [cecum ligation and puncture (CLP) operation,n = 90]. The sepsis rats were sacrificed on 24, 48 and 72 hours after modeling. The level of serum complements (C5, C5a) and cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL-1, IL-6), high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results Compared with normal control group and sham operation group, the levels of serum complements C5, C5a and IL-1β were significantly increased at 24 hours after CLP in sepsis group [C5 (ng/L): 1.60±0.19 vs. 1.04±0.20, 1.09±0.09; C5a (ng/L): 0.20±0.02 vs. 0.18±0.01, 0.18±0.02; IL-1β (ng/L): 700.20±111.41 vs. 475.87±108.96, 592.29±121.57; allP < 0.05]; then the levels of C5, C5a and IL-1β declined, the level of serum C5 were also higher than normal control group at 48 hours and 72 hours after CLP (ng/L: 1.17±0.24, 1.27±0.24 vs. 1.04±0.20, bothP < 0.05). In sepsis group the level of serum TNF-α (ng/L: 51.33±1.96, 51.06±1.64) was lower than that in normal control group (59.53±3.06) and sham operation group (57.91±2.72) at 48 hours and 72 hours (allP < 0.05). There was a time dependent rise of serum HMGB1 in sepsis group, which level was much higher than that in normal control group and sham operation group at 72 hours after CLP (ng/L: 472.21±20.94 vs. 406.00±43.16, 404.41±35.39, bothP < 0.05). There were no significant differences of MIF, and IL-6 level between groups at each time points.Conclusions Complement system led to uncontrolled inflammatory response and immune dysfunction through the release of proinflammatory cytokines and inflammatory mediators, which maybe one of the important mechanism of the pathology of sepsis.

Objective To observe the clinical effect of the quadruple therapy of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine for treatment of patients with paralytic ileus.Methods A prospective randomized control trial was conducted.Ninty-five patients with paralytic ileus diagnosed by Tianjin First Central Hospital from January 2015 to February 2016 were randomly divided into a control group (47 cases) and a research group (48 cases).Routine western medical treatment was given to the patients in control group;on the basis of western medical routine treatment,quadruple therapy was applied to the patients in the research group,including alprostadil injection 10 μg,intravenous drip,once a day;Xuebijing injection 40 mL,intravenous drip,twice a day;liangge powder with modification (ingredients or their dosages being added and/or subtracted) composed of rhubarb 10 g,mirabilite 10 g,gardenia 15 g,weeping forsythia 20 g,scutellaria 15 g,glycyrrhiza 6 g,mint 6 g,bamboo leaves 10 g,honey 10 g.administered by gastric tube;point selection principle:zusanli (ST36),sanyinjiao (SP6),tianshu (S25),hegu (LI4),yanglingquan (GB34),zhongwan (CV12),xiawan (CV10),dachangshu (C07)etc.No.30 filiform needle was used to be perpendicularly inserted by moderate and equi-librious acupuncture technique,needle retaining being 30 minutes,once a day for 72 hours.The numbers of the patients with abdominal pain,abdominal distension,nausea and vomiting,absence of exhausting and defecation,gurgling sound attenuation or disappearance,abdominal X-ray abnormality,and the first defecation time,gurgling reappearance time,disappearance time of main symptoms were observed.The clinical effects of these two groups were statistically analyzed.Results After treatment in the two groups,the numbers of patients with abdominal pain,abdominal distension,nausea and vomiting,absence of exhausting and defecation,gurgling sound attenuation or disappearance,abdominal X-ray abnormality were all significantly reduced compared with those before treatment,except the nausea and vomiting symptom,the degrees of descent of other indexes were more remarkable in the research group (abdominal pain:7 cases vs.44 cases,abdominal distension:6 cases vs.45 cases,absence of exhausting and defecation:3 cases vs.48 cases,gurgling sound attenuation or disappearance:11 cases vs.43 cases,abdominal X-ray abnormality:12 cases vs.48 cases),the time of first defecation in research group (hours:22.65 ± 6.72 vs.34.35 ± 5.38),gurgling reappearance time (hours:40.36 ± 6.99 vs.51.33 ± 5.80),symptom disappearance time (hours:51.44 ± 9.41 vs.60.10 ± 5.48) in research group were all shorter significantly than those in control group (all P ＜ 0.05).The total effective rate in the research group was obviously higher than that of the control group [93.75％ (45/48) vs.87.37％ (37/47),P ＜ 0.05].Conclusions The therapeutic effects of the quadruple therapy of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine are remarkable for treatment of paralytic ileus.

Objective To study the effects of forsythia extract on the liver gene expression levels of rats with sepsis model.Methods The 90 Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups:sham operation group (n=30),sepsis model group (n=30) and forsythia group (n=30).The survival rates at 48 b and 72 h were observed for all groups.The sepsis model and forsythia group rats were prepared by "CLP" method.72 h later the rats were sacrificed by removed the vertebra.Under sterile conditions,cut the size of about 10 mm×10 mm×3mm rat liver tissue and placed in liquid nitrogen for use.The same with the sham operation group.The gene expression levels of livers in all groups were detected by the Applications Rat Genome 230 2.0 microarray,and the relative strength of both the fluorescence signal ratio＞2 or ＜-2 screening significantly different genes,by the US National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database query gene function and classify.Results Forsythia group 48 h,72 h rat mortality rates were 30％ and 50％,the sepsis model group 48 h,72 h rat mortality rates were 46.7％ and 70％,two groups 48 h,72 h mortality rates were compared,the differences were statistically significant (P＜0.05).72 hours after CLP,the genes with up-regulation in sepsis model group/sham operation group and with down-regulation in Forsythia group/sepsis model group were 14.The genes with downregulation in sepsis model group/sham operation group and with up-regulation in Forsythia group/sepsis model group were 11.The genes involves immune-related genes 8,metabolism genes 5,material transport two related genes,cell adhesion two related genes,cell proliferation,differentiation and apoptosis related genes 4,transcriptional regulation genes 2and other related gene.Conclusion Forsythia can reduce the 48,72 h mortality of rats with sepsis and can regulate abnormal sepsis liver genes which associated with tissue immunity,inflammation,metabolism occur regression expression.
