Fasting plasma glucose(FPG)has been widely used in the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus(DM)for its advantages of rapidity,economy,simplicity and acceptability.Hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)has the advantages of being simple,stable,accurate and unaffected by related factors,and has been used in the diagnosis of DM since it was standardized.However,the value of FPG and HbA1c in the early diagnosis of diabetes have been controversial.The purpose of this paper is to explore the value of the two in the early diagnosis of diabetes.

Objective To explore the correlation between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and Behcet's disease(BD)activity.Methods A total of 103 BD patients were divided into the low activity group(0-4,61 cases)and the high activity group(5-11,42 cases)according to electronic medical record-based disease activity index(EMRAI)score.The white blood cell(WBC),neutrophil(NEU),lymphocyte(LY),platelet(PLT),red blood cell(RBC),hemoglobin(Hb),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),C-reactive protein(CRP),IgG,IgA,IgM,complement C3 and C4 were detected.NLR and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)were calculated.The correlation between NLR,PLR and ESR,CRP,EMRAI were analyzed.Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of BD disease activity.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was drawn to evaluate the effectiveness of NLR in judging BD disease activity.Results WBC,NEU,PLT,ESR,CRP,NLR,PLR,complement C3 and C4 in patients were higher in the high activity group than those in the low activity group(P＜0.05),and there were no significant differences in other indexes(P＞0.05).NLR was positively correlated with ESR,CRP and EMRAI in the whole group,while PLR was positively correlated with ESR,CRP and EMRAI in the whole group(P＜0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that high NLR was a risk factor for BD disease activity(OR=1.511,95%CI:1.080-2.113,P＜0.05).ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of NLR in evaluating BD disease activity was 0.706(95%CI:0.603-0.809).Conclusion NLR is effective in judging the disease activity of BD patients,and can be used as a biological index to evaluate the disease activity of BD.

The present study aims to investigate the survival, migration and differentiation of the neural stem cells (NSCs) transplanted into the hippocampus of adult rat damaged by kainic acid. Hippocampal CA1 pyramid neurons were degenerated by stereotaxical injection of kainic acid, one week later, NSCs labeled by Hoechst33342 were transplanted into the damaged hippocampus. The rats were sacrificed at 1,2,4 and 8 weeks, and the brains were examined by immunohistochemical analysis to observe the survival, migration and differentiation of the NSCs in the lesioned hippocampus. The results showed that transplanted neural stem cells migrate in the mode of chain in pyramid layer of hippocampus and most of them express the astrocytic marker of GFAP, others express the neuronal marker of MAP2. These results suggest that transplanted neural stem cells migrate in the mode of chain in pyramid layer of hippocampus. Most of them differentiate intoastrocytes, others differentiate into neurons.

Objective:To investigate the inhibitory effect of 4'-methylether-scutellarein(4-MS),an extract from Verbena officinalis,on human choriocarcinoma JAR cell line and the possible mechanism.Methods:JAR cells were exposed to 4'-methylether-scutellarein of different concentrations for 48 h.MTT assay was used to examine the anti-proliferative effect of 4'-methylether-scutellarein.Flow cytometry was used to investigate the apoptosis and the changes of cell cycle.AO/EB double staining was applied to discriminate the apoptotic cells from dead ones.The changes of Survivin,p38-MAPK and Caspase 3 mRNA expressions were detected by RT-PCR in JAR cells treated with 4-MS.Furthermore,Western blotting assay was used to determine Survivin protein expression,phosphorylation level of p38 and Caspase 3 in JAR cells before and after 4-MS treatment.Results:4-MS inhibited the proliferation of JAR cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner(P

Objective The cytotoxic effect of bile acids on trophoblast and fetal development in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP) were studied through the observation of ultrastructure changes and expression of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) of placenta. Methods Twenty two ICP (7 with FGR and 15 without FGR) and 15 normal late pregnancies were selected. The placental ultrastructure was observed with transmission electron microscope. The expression of EGFR in placenta was determined by immunohistological method and the related quantity of EGFR mRNA was analysed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR). Results The morphological changes found in syncytiotrophoblast were the following: decrease in the number of superficial microvilli, dilatation of rough endoplasmic reticulum, tumefation or myelination of the mitochondria and abnormal distribution of chromatin. These changes of syncytiotrophoblast were more obvious in ICP with FGR. In addition, decrease in the number of capillaries and proliferation of degenerated collagenous fibrils in villi interstitium were also observed. Compared with the normal pregnancies, the expression of EGFR in placenta from ICP decreased significantly and there was no significant difference of EGFR expression in ICP with and without FGR. Conclusion Bile acids cause distinct injuries on trophoblast in a dose dependent manner and that maybe account for the decreased expression of placental EGFR in ICP.
