1.A Study on the Pharmacognosy Materials of Ancient Traditional Medicine Prescriptions Used to Treat Bubonic Plague

Background
Ancient Mongolian doctors and scholar-monks identified diseases that are
not found in Indian Ayurveda or Tibetan medicine but were prevalent among Mongolians,
in accordance with the theory of wind, bile, and phlegm, leading to a revision of disease
classification. A notable example is the entirely new systematization of the classification,
nomenclature, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. Consequently, it is essential
to examine the texts of Mongolian doctors and maarambas who have made significant
contributions in this field and have worked to revitalize and advance knowledge in this
area. Objective: The research objective is to identify medicinal raw materials used in
prescriptions for the bubonic plague that occurred in Mongolia, which were not included in
the classification of infectious diseases in the ”Ashtanga hridaya samhita,” one of the three
major Ayurvedic works, and the ”Four Medical Tantras”, the principal text for training Tibetan
and Mongolian doctors. Methods: This study utilized source analysis of ancient texts and
the checklist method as research methods. Conclusion: The renowned Mongolian medical
scholar Ishbaljir authored his book “Rashaani tsagan sevder” in 1753, in which he claimed
to be the first Mongolian physician to write about marmot poisoning or bubonic plague.
Historically, Mongolian ancestors and nomadic communities have long employed various
methods to prevent and treat infectious diseases. Over time, these practices were adapted
and enriched to suit regional characteristics, extreme climates, unique living conditions, and
the physiological traits of the population. Some approaches were newly discovered, while
others evolved through generations of experience. Through this process, these methods contributed to the development of a unique and comprehensive body of medical knowledge,
shaped by the cognitive and scientific advancements of ancient doctors and maarambas.
2.PML NBs switch from liquid-like to gel-like structures upon ATO

Introduction:
This research work was carried out as a joint project between the People’s Republic of China and
Mongolia. Mongolian contract number is CHN-2022/278, Chinese contract number is YS2021YFE010725. The title of the project is “The underlying mechanism of the synergistic effect of Arsenic Trioxide and Interferon Alpha on the treatment of Arsenic Resistant Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia”. The main executing organisation of Mongolia is the Mongolian Academy of Medical Sciences, and the project implementing organisation of the Chinese is Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and the People’s Hospital of Hangzhou Medical College, China.
PML nuclear bodies (NB) are disrupted in PML-RARα–driven acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). Arsenic trioxide (ATO) cures 70% of patients with APL, driving PML-RARα degradation and NB reformation. In non-APL cells, arsenic binding to PML also amplifies NB formation. Yet, the actual molecular mechanism(s) involved remain elusive.
Methods:
PML and PML-RARα condensate dynamics were examined using live-cell time-lapse imaging, confocal
and STED super-resolution microscopy, and FRAP analysis in GFP-tagged PmlKO MEFs before and after arsenic trioxide (ATO) treatment.
Here, we establish that PML NBs display some features of liquid–liquid phase separation and that ATO induces a gel like transition. PML fusion to RARα altered its distribution in the nucleus, as GFP-PML-RAR α localised into many tiny dots with diam diameter below 100 nm in PmlKO MEFs. The basal dynamics of GFP-PML-RARα at these microdots were increased compared with PML at NBs, with a t1/2 of 1.37 minutes and, importantly, no immobile fraction. Here again, ATO treatment drastically decreased PML RARα exchange rates, closer to the dynamics of PML. Thus, ATO therapy drives the gel-like transition of both PML- or PML-RARα–driven condensates.
Conclusion
These findings show that arsenic trioxide (ATO) converts both PML and PML-RARα condensates
from a liquid-like, highly dynamic state into a gel-like, immobilized structure, revealing a key biophysical mechanism underlying ATO’s therapeutic action in APL.
3.Clarifying for use of the arsenic from the scriptures and books of traditional medicine

Introduction:
In Mongolia, ancient lama doctors and maarambas called it rdo dug in Tibetan. The direct translation
of arsenic in Mongolian is stone poison, and the common word is arsenic. Natural arsenic is extracted from stone poison and gold sulphur. It was used as a distinction between red poison and white stone poison. However, there is no specific study of stone arsenic based on ancient medical scriptures and books. Therefore, we have chosen this topic to collect, analyse, and summarise information about arsenic from ancient medical texts written in Tibetan and Mongolian. The purpose of the research work is to collect information and facts from ancient traditional medical scriptures and books written in Tibetan and Mongolian, and to clarify their uses and some terms.
Methods:
Source study method: The source-study method includes research activities of books, literary works,
sources, and papers. We made a historical study on the date and the authors and their literary works in order of the written period, starting from the earliest, thus comparing special, innovative, and creative ideas in terms of content and mentality with other original literary works by using research materials per the research goal and objectives.
Comparative method:
Comparison is a fundamental tool of analysis. It sharpens our powers of description and plays a central role in concept formation by bringing suggestive similarities and contrasts among sources into focus.
Conclusion
The study found that there are many references to arsenic in ancient traditional medical scriptures and
books written in Tibetan and Mongolian. The Tibetan name for arsenic is rdo dug, the Mongolian name is khuntsel, and the Latin name is arsenic. It was revealed that it is included in several formulas and is also the main ingredient in some traditional formulas.
4.Analysis of syndrome differiantation of insomnia based on ancient sutra “Gjes bsdus snying nor”

Introduction:
Problems related to sleep affect approximately 23-56% of the world’s population. In Mongolia, the
prevalence of non-organic sleep disorders is estimated at 27.9%, among which 42.2% of the population have poor sleep quality. Long-term insomnia can have a negative impact on an individual’s normal work and life, increasing the risk of various health problems. Severe insomnia can reduce work efficiency and concentration, thereby causing serious harm. Traditional medicine has a long history of treating insomnia. However, there are currently no systematic studies on insomnia based on ancient traditional medical books.
Methods & Materials:
“Gjes bsdus snying nor”. We adopted the checklist method to list the relevant information of
insomnia from the literature, providing a prerequisite for further analysis and the issue of syndrome differentiation of insomnia was analyzed by using comparison and theoretical analysis methods.
The research materials we selected did not describe insomnia as a dedicated chapter, but mentioned the content related to insomnia in the form of disease symptoms, such as terms like “sleeplessness”, “reduced sleep” and “light sleep”. We explore the underlying diseases of insomnia based on the above symptoms related to insomnia and analyze the syndrome differentiation of insomnia. Exploring the primary disease of insomnia:
1. Sleeplessness is mentioned among the common symptoms of wind disease, wind palpitation and bone marrow wind, heart wind and lung wind diseases also respectively present with symptoms of reduced sleep.
2. Heat Tri-pa and heart Tri-pa disease can lead to reduced sleep.
3. Mugpo spreads to the heart, it can cause sleeplessness.
4. Deficiency heat, Invisible heat and epidemic heat etc. can present with symptoms such as reduced sleep and light sleep.
5. Wind induced diabetes can also cause reduced sleep.
6. Palpitations and rheumatic heart disease can cause symptoms of reduced sleep.
7. Trichomoniasis can also lead to symptoms of reduced sleep.
These underlying diseases have both similar symptoms and differences, and they need to be differentiated.
Conclusion
According to our research, the syndrome types of insomnia include wind, Tri-pa, mugpo and
microorganisms. Treatment should be based on syndrome differentiation, combining the treatment of the underlying disease with hypnotherapy.
5.Utilization of the Veronica L. Genus plant species in traditional medicine grow in Mongolia

Abstract
The genus Veronica L. of the family Plantaginaceae Juss. comprises approximately 500 species distributed worldwide, particularly across the Northern Hemisphere – Europe, America, Asia, as well as in parts of Africa and Australia. Plants of the genus Veronica and their extracts, infusions, and decoctions are widely used in traditional medicine to treat cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory conditions, coughs, influenza, bronchitis, hoarseness, gout, rheumatoid pain, kidney and gallbladder disorders, and metabolic impairments. The fresh herb is applied in the treatment of wounds, skin eruptions, eczema, ulcers, burns, snakebites, and carbuncles.
Water- or oil-based extracts are also used to treat bacterial- or fungal-induced skin diseases.
Currently, more than 1,100 medicinal plants are registered in the Mongolian flora. The chemical composition and certain biological and pharmacological activities of over 10 percent of these species have been scientifically investigated. In Mongolia, 27 species of the genus Veronica are officially recorded. However, research results remain insufficient. Generally, Veronica species, considered grassland plants in Mongolia, are tolerant of harsh climates and adaptable to dry conditions. Therefore, studying their chemical composition and specific characteristics, identifying biologically active components, and evaluating their biological and pharmacological activities is crucial. Such research
not only validates their traditional uses but also supports the development of scientifically based new products for the prevention and treatment of ailments in living organisms.
6.Identifying the drug action for ulcers and injuries from ancient medical manuscript

Introduction:
The National Library of Mongolia was established in 1921 based largely on the 8th Khalkha Jebtsundamba Library. In studying the tradition of collecting and preserving books in Mongolia, the subject can be divided into three categories:
1. Family collection
2. Palace/ Royal collections
3. Monastery collections.
From the collection mentioned above, we selected a work belonging to the royal collections, specifically
one transferred from the VIII Khalkha Jebtsundamba’s Library to the National Library. This book, “The
drug actions that are useful for any kind of ulcer, swelling, and injuries,” is a rare and valuable item
of medical cultural heritage, existing in a single known copy. Therefore, this work was selected for
incorporation into the research cycle.
To identify the formulas, forms of medicines, methods of use, actions, and to abstain from diet methods
in the book “The drug actions that are useful for any kind of ulcer, swelling, and injuries.”
Methods:
We employed methods such as the study of original texts and sources, analytic- synthetic
method.
Conclusion
The book includes methods for using 27 various medicines to treat 26 types of diseases
related to the lesions. Some medicines can be used externally in addition to oral administration, and
90% of all medicines are in the form of powders and granules for external application.
7.A study on the essence and meaning of the nasal immunization method of the white ash medicine in an ancient text

Introduction:
The text “Secret Medicine Recipes of Important Matters” represents a unique
heritage that embodies the theories and concepts of traditional Mongolian medicine, particularly as
a documentary source of medicinal composition. Through this work, it is important to examine the
terminology, theoretical and methodological concepts, and characteristics of medical works written in
Mongolian script within the field of traditional Mongolian medicine.
To conduct a study of the final words of the second volume of the “Secret Medicine Recipes for
Important Matters” and to compare and analyze the original text, including some outdated terms and
content.
Methods:
The second volume of the book “Secret Medicine Recipes for Important Matters” is a
Mongolian manuscript. The book measures 22.7x22.3 cm and contains 111 pages. It is covered with
yellow silk featuring a floral pattern and is bound with four holes using twisted brownish-yellow thread.
The text is written on coarse paper with red lines. Methods of textual analysis for ancient books and
translated methods were used in the study.
Conclusion
The second volume of the “Secret Medicine Recipes for Important Matters” contains a
description of the nasal immunization method of the white ash medicine used for disease prevention.
The method involves administering the substance through the nose to regulate sputum, and from
a modern perspective, it can be interpreted as a live vaccination. The most optimal version of this
method was created by Tsakhar Geshe Luvsanchultem and written in his work, and later used as an
injection for the three Gobi Gurvan Saikhan’s Sharav maaramba.
8.Clarifying the drug action for stroke diseases from ancient Mongolian medicinal manuscripts

Introduction:
A study sample of 78 manuscripts was selected from the 1,223 transferred from the
8th Khalkha Jebtsundamba’s Library to the National Library of Mongolia. This sample consists of single, representative volumes from unique, multi-volume texts. Of the 78 manuscripts analyzed by Tungalag Batmunkh, eight (approx. 10%) are categorized as medical treatises. However, a systematic study conducted by Academician Bold Sharav identified a total of nine distinct volumes, thereby establishing a precise corpus of the works. One of these is the book “The book summarizes a number of conventional formulas from Tong Ren Tang Pharmaceutical Company”, which is one of the sources that has not yet been researched. This study was undertaken to determine the origin of the book, terminology, number, and category of medicines, and to clarify the drug action of some formulas.
To determine the origin, terminology, number, and classification of the ancient medical book “The book
summarizes a number of conventional formulas from Tong Ren Tang Pharmaceutical Company,” and
to clarify the characteristics of the medicines included in the chapter “Drugs for stroke diseases.”
Methods:
We employed methods such as the study of original texts and sources, and the checklist
method.
Conclusion
The medications used in this book for stroke have the following benefits: thrombolytic,
bone strengthening, tendon pain relief, support free breathing, relieve fever, antiplatelet, cure wind,
regeneration bone marrow, improve testicle semen, and provide physical radiance, strength, and
virility.
9.Integration of modern medical technology into traditional medicine hot compress therapy

Introduction:
This study aimed to explore the feasibility of integrating modern technology into traditional
medicine hot compress therapy. In Mongolian traditional medicine, hot compress therapy is a widely used
method for effectively treating cold-related disorders and for improving blood circulation and metabolism. A variety of traditional materials are commonly employed, including salt, river stones, wall-growing moss, soil from rodent burrows, pigeon droppings, and oil residues.
Methods:
Using descriptive and literature-based research methods, these materials were systematically
reviewed and summarized, with particular attention to the characteristics of traditional heating techniques.
In parallel, the applicability of modern heating technologies such as electric heating wires, plug-in heating
devices, silver-coated thermal insulation materials, and soft containment pouches—was experimentally
evaluated for use in hot compress therapy.
Conclusion
The results demonstrated that combining traditional hot compress materials with modern
heating devices can enhance safety, ease of use, and thermal stability. In conclusion, integrating
traditional hot compress therapy with modern technology has significant potential to improve therapeutic
efficacy, facilitate the development of standardized treatment protocols, and promote broader clinical
application in practice.
10.Clinical effects of traditional “mchin tang” decoction on the alcohol-induced hepatotoxicity: a randomized controlled clinical trial

Introduction:
This study aims to elucidate the mechanism of action and therapeutic efficacy of Mchin
tang, a decoction from Chapter 59 of the “Man Ngag Lhanthab,” for treating alcohol-induced liver toxicity
in patients.
Methods:
Conducted as a rigorous single-center randomized controlled trial in 2024 and 2025 at Sindura-med Hospital and Borjigon Otoch Hospital, involving 38 carefully selected alcohol-dependent patients who
provided informed consent.
Conclusion
The findings demonstrate that the Mchin tang drug group showed notable improvement in
treating liver toxicity symptoms, which may encourage healthcare professionals to consider traditional
medicine as a viable option. Compared with the Silymarin treatment group, the physical and neurological
symptoms associated with the alcohol liver disease were significantly reduced in the Mchin tang traditional
medicine treatment group, and the headache, hypertension, and numbness were also significantly reduced in the Mchin tang traditional medicine treatment group. A questionnaire clarified the differential diagnosis of headache and hypertension.
The findings suggest that traditional Mchin tang medicine can effectively reduce liver heat disease symptoms and related neurological issues, encouraging further exploration and application in clinical practice.
