1.Risk factors for new adjacent vertebral fracture after percutaneous kyphoplasty in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture and their predictive efficacy

Objective:To investigate the risk factors for new adjacent vertebral fracture after percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) and their predictive efficacy.Methods:A retrospective cohort study was conducted to analyze the clinical data of 476 OVCF patients admitted to The Affiliated Wuxi People′s Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2018 to December 2024, including 74 males and 402 females, aged 49-91 years [71(65, 79)years]. Among them, 397 patients underwent single-level PKP, while 79 received multi-level PKP. Surgical segments involved T 6 in 9 patients, T 7 in 9, T 8 in 14, T 9 in 12, T 10 in 9, T 11 in 50, T 12 in 110, L 1 in 173, L 2 in 77, L 3 in 46, L 4 in 31, and L 5 in 13. The patients were divided into adjacent vertebral fracture group ( n=55) and non-adjacent vertebral fracture group ( n=421) according to whether adjacent vertebral fracture was observed during the follow-up. The following data were collected in both groups: gender, age, body mass index (BMI), bone mineral density T-value, underlying diseases (hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease), prior cerebral infarction, history of OVCF, long-term glucocorticoid use, thoracolumbar fracture, number of operated vertebrae, cement injection approach (unilateral or bilateral), mean cement dose, postoperative vertebral height restoration rate, postoperative Cobb angle correction, postoperative thoracolumbar kyphosis angle correction, and cement distribution score. Univariate and multivariate Logistic stepwise regression analysis were performed to assess and identify independent risk factors for adjacent vertebral fracture in OVCF patients after PKP. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the risk factors′ predictive performance for adjacent vertebral fracture in OVCF patients after PKP. Results:Univariate analysis revealed significant differences in age, bone mineral density T-value, history of OVCF, long-term glucocorticoid use, number of operated vertebrae, and cement distribution score between the two groups ( P<0.05). The multivariate Logistic stepwise regression analysis showed that the bone mineral density T-value ( OR=0.68, 95% CI 0.48, 0.95, P<0.05) and cement distribution score ( OR=0.61, 95% CI 0.49, 0.76, P<0.01) were significantly correlated with new adjacent vertebral fractures after PKP. The ROC curve analysis showed that bone cement distribution score showed better predictive performance (AUC=0.72, 95% CI 0.64, 0.79), compared with bone mineral density T-value (AUC=0.62, 95% CI 0.54, 0.70), while the combined predictive performance of the two factors was the best (AUC=0.75, 95% CI 0.68, 0.81). Conclusions:Bone mineral density T-value and cement distribution score are independent risk factors for new adjacent vertebral fracture in OVCF patients after PKP. The predictive performance of cement distribution score is proved to be good and can be better in combination with bone mineral density T-value.
2.Adverse reaction surveillance analysis of domestic human papillomavirus vaccines with different production processes

This study aims to compare the vaccination rates and incidence of adverse reaction rates following administration of two domestically produced human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines in individuals aged 9-30 years,investigate the impact of distinct manufacturing processes and vaccination schedules on adverse reaction rates. From November 2023 to June 2024, the Immunization Planning Department of Liuzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a single-center, randomized, open-label, parallel-group trial using community-based recruitment of eligible participants aged 9 to 30 years. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either of two domestically produced HPV vaccines (Walrinvax or Cecolin). As specified in the vaccine package inserts, subjects were stratified into a two-dose regimen group (aged 9-14 years) and a three-dose regimen group (aged 15-30 years). Vaccination rates were recorded, and adverse reactions within 0-30 days post-vaccination were monitored. The results showed that a total of 400 participants were enrolled. Both the full vaccination rate and the timely completion rate were significantly higher in the two-dose regimen group compared to the three-dose regimen group (Fisher′s exact test, P<0.01; χ2=7.06, P<0.01). A total of 985 doses were administered. The overall adverse reaction rate was 18.78% (185/985), with local and systemic reactions occurring at 8.02% (79/985) and 10.76% (106/985), respectively. The most frequent adverse reactions were injection site pain (4.97%, 49/985) and fever (4.47%, 44/985). No grade 4 or special-interest adverse events were reported.The incidence of adverse reactions for the two domestic HPV vaccines with different production processes (at 0/6 months) was 13.96% (55/394) and 17.46% (69/395) respectively, with no statistically significant difference (χ2=1.83, P>0.05).The adverse reaction rate was significantly lower in the 9-14 years group (9.77%) compared the 15-30 years group (24.91%)(χ 2=35.67, P<0.01). In conclusion, both domestic HPV vaccines demonstrated a favorable safety profile in the 9-30 years age group, with mostly mild adverse reactions. Compared to the three-dose schedule (15-30 years group), the two-dose HPV vaccination schedule (9-14 years group) significantly reduced the incidence of adverse reactions and improved vaccination compliance.
3.Cross-cultural adaptation, reliability, and validity of the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised

Objective:To translate the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R) into Chinese and assesses the psychometric properties of this tool.Methods:Following the Beaton cross-cultural adaptation guidelines, the Chinese version of BSS-R was formed through forward translation, back translation, expert consultation, and pre-testing. The present study was conducted in a sample of 347 women took part between 6-8 weeks postpartum, from the postpartum clinics of two tertiary hospitals in Sichuan province.Results:Totally 340 questionnaires were effectively collected with a majority of respondents aged 30-39 accounting for 64.7% of the total. The Chinese version of BSS-R comprises 10 items, which were classified into three domains as stress experienced during labour, women′s personal attributes, and quality of care provision. The Cronbach α coefficient was 0.745 for the total scale and ranged from 0.523 to 0.738 for sub-scales. The split-half reliability was 0.746 for the total scale, and ranged from 0.523 to 0.733 for sub-scales. Exploratory factor analysis revealed the presence of three components with eigen values greater than 1, explaining a total variance of 58.868%. The fit indices showed that the original correlated three factor model of Chinese version of BSS-R was adequate.Conclusions:The Chinese version of BSS-R can be considered a clear, easily understandable and convenient tool for assessing the women′s birth satisfaction in Chinese cultural context.

7.The role of plant WRKY transcription factors against salt stress: a review.

High salt content in soils severely hampers plant growth and crop yields. Many transcription factors in plants play important roles in responding to various stresses, but their molecular mechanisms remain unclear. WRKY transcription factors are one of the largest families of transcription factors in higher plants that are involved in and influence many aspects of plant growth and development. They play important roles in responding to salt stress. The regulation of gene expression by WRKY proteins is mainly achieved by binding to the DNA's specific cis-regulatory elements, the W-box elements (TTGACC). In recent years, there have been many studies revealing the roles and mechanisms of WRKY family members, from model plant Arabidopsis to agricultural crops. This paper reviews the latest research progress on WRKY transcription factors in response to salt stress and discusses the current challenges and future perspectives of WRKY transcription factor research.

8.Advances in the plant multicellular network analysis.

Multicellular network analysis is a method for topological properties analysis of cells. The functions of organs are determined by their inner cells. The arrangement of cells within organs endows higher-order functionality through a structure-function relationship, though the organizational properties of these multicellular configurations remain poorly understood. Multicellular network analysis with multicellular models established by 3D scanning of plants, will further discover the plant development mechanism, and provide clues for synthesizing plant multicellular systems. In this paper, we review the development of multicellular models, summarize the process of multicellular network analysis, and describe the development and application of multicellular network analysis in plants. In addition, this review also provides perspective on future development of plant multicellular network analysis.

9.Digital orthopedic technology in the positioning of volar plate in distal radius fracture

BACKGROUND:Volar locking plate is the dominant treatment of distal radial fractures, but it is difficult to judge the distance between the plate position and the carpal articular surface, thus leading to screw penetration of the articular surface. Arthroscopy or operative perspective has their pros and cons, there is no simple and effective method of positioning the plate.
OBJECTIVE:To find the optimal position of Volar LCP in distal radius fractures and explore the role of computer simulation in this treatment.
METHODS:The CT data of the wrists in 20 adult patients were col ected to calculate 3D models of the radius by MIMICS software. 3D model of the LCP was calculated by UG in working station. The distance between the plate and the distal radius joint was measured by computer simulation, and the mean value was calculated. A total of 33 Patients with distal radial fractures were divided into two groups:conventional treatment group (regular X-ray and CT) and computer simulation group (preoperative plan based on the computer-measured data).
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The safe distance between the screw center and the articular facet was 11.13 mm in males and 10.97 in females. The number of radiation and operating time were shortened significantly in computer simulation group (P<0.05). Experimental findings indicate that, computer simulation is a powerful tool to find the optimal position of volar LCP in the distal radius fractures. The time of the operation and X-ray fluoroscopy are also shortened significantly.
10.Analysis of low-density lipoprotein receptor gene mutations in a Chinese patient with clinically homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

OBJECTIVETo screen the point mutation of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) gene in Chinese familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) patients, characterize the relationship between the genotype and the phenotype and discuss the molecular pathological mechanism of FH.
METHODSA patient with clinical phenotype of homozygous FH and her parents were investigated for mutations in the promoter and all eighteen exons of the LDL-R gene. Screening was carried out using Touch-down PCR and direct DNA sequencing; multiple alignment analysis by DNASIS 2.5 was used to find base alteration, and the LDL-R gene mutation database was searched to identify the alteration. In addition, the apolipoprotein B gene (apo B) was screened for known mutations (R3500Q) that cause familial defective apo B100 (FDB) by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP).
RESULTSTwo new heterozygous mutations in exons 4 and 9 of the LDL-R gene were identified in the proband (C122Y and T383I) as well as her parents. Both of the mutations have not been published in the LDL-R gene mutation database. No mutation of apo B100 (R3500Q) was observed.
CONCLUSIONTwo new mutations (C112Y and T383I) were found in the LDL-R gene, which may result in FH and may be particularly pathogenetic genotypes in Chinese people.
