Background:
The feces of the bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) have a long history of use in traditional medicine. Owing to the bird’s unique biological characteristics, its feces have been employed as a medicinal raw material in various traditional medical systems. Traditionally, processed bearded vulture feces have been used primarily to treat digestive disorders, tumors, wounds, and certain mental illnesses. However, academic research on their medicinal use remains limited. The purpose of this study is to analyze selected historical sources documenting the use of bearded vulture feces in traditional medicine and to clarify their therapeutic significance and reported effects.
Aim:
The objective of this study is to compile and review selected sources, commentaries, and texts that record the therapeutic use of bearded vulture feces in traditional medicine.
Materials and Methods:
This study employs historical and textual research methods, analytical–synthetic approaches, systematic analysis, and comparative historical methods. Relevant traditional medical literature was examined to identify and synthesize sources documenting the use of bearded vulture feces in the treatment of human diseases, with particular emphasis on gastrointestinal disorders and gastric cancer.
Result:
The results indicate that bearded vulture feces constituted an important therapeutic component in Tibetan, Mongolian, and Chinese traditional medical systems. Historically, they were primarily used in the treatment of bone-related diseases, digestive system disorders, and inflammatory conditions. The therapeutic significance of bearded vulture feces in traditional medicine can be summarized as follows:
1. Processing and Medicinal Properties: In traditional medical practice, bearded vulture feces are typically roasted or subjected to controlled processing before being incorporated into medicinal prescriptions. They are described as bitter in taste and warming in nature, with effects including resolving masses, eliminating “Badgan,” restoring vital heat, promoting digestion, stimulating appetite, and dispersing tumors.
2. Bone Strengthening Effects: Due to their content of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, bearded vulture feces were believed to enhance bone strength and support bone regeneration.
3. Digestive Function Enhancement: The organic and biological components of the feces were traditionally thought to support digestive function and improve intestinal activity.
4. Antibacterial and Anti-inflammatory Effects: Certain chemical components of the feces were considered effective in combating inflammation and infection.
Conclusion
The feces of the bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) have been used in traditional medicine over a long period, primarily for the treatment of bone diseases, digestive disorders, and inflammatory conditions. They are believed to contain minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, which may contribute to bone strengthening, improved digestion, and anti-inflammatory effects. Nevertheless, due to the limited scope of modern medical research, further studies are required to evaluate their efficacy and safety. Future research should focus on elucidating the biological activities and therapeutic applications of bearded vulture feces through interdisciplinary investigation.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the current usage status of OTC drug among residents in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and to provide evidence for the science popularization of rational drug use. METHODS By approximate random sampling, the questionnaire survey was conducted with the mini-apps Questionnaire Star among the residents aged 19 and above from 7 league or cities of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, in order to investigate the current situation of OTC drug use in the region. RESULTS A total of 611 people filled in the questionnaire, and 571 people filled in the questionnaire effectively, with an effective filling rate of 93.45%. According to the results, 18.7% of residents said they did not understand the concept of OTC drugs, 36.1% of residents said they did not know the OTC drug label, and 65.3% of residents did not know the difference between class A and B OTC drugs in terms of OTC drug awareness. And there were statistically significant differences in the scores of OTC drug awareness among different genders, education levels, monthly income and places of residence (P<0.05). When choosing OTC drugs, 23.5% of residents still believed in advertisements or friends’ recommendations; 14.5% of the residents did not read the drug instructions carefully before taking drugs. In terms of drug risk, 5.1% of residents had long-term use of OTC drugs; 8.6% of residents reported taking three or more OTC drugs; 2.1% of residents often added other drugs with the same effect or increased the dosage by themselves. They took traditional Chinese medicine, Mongolian medicine and other preparations while taking OTC drugs, accounting for 19.6%, 22.6% and 13.0% respectively. CONCLUSIONS Residents in Inner Mongolia have low awareness of OTC drugs, and their habits of drug use need to be improved. Repeated drug use and overdose drug use are serious, it is necessary to strengthen the publicity and popularization of rational use of OTC drugs.

Objective To measure the specificactivity of natural and synthetic radionuclides in the environmental soil of Panjin, China and determine the content of radionuclides in the surface soil, and to conduct a scientific assessment of the radiation health risks of residents in this area. Methods Thirty-one surface soil samples were collected within the jurisdiction of Panjin, and a high-purity germanium detector was used for γ spectrum analysis to obtain the content of radionuclides and the current environmental radioactivity level. The two independent samples mean t-test was used to compare the specific activity data of radionuclides in soil samples between Panjin and Liaoning Province or China. Results The meanspecific activities of natural radionuclides 238U, 226Ra, 232Th, 40K, and synthetic radionuclide 137Cs in the surface soil samples of Panjin were 18.7 Bq/kg, 19.6 Bq/kg, 23.5 Bq/kg, 604.6 Bq/kg, and 0.9 Bq/kg, respectively. Conclusion The specific activities of natural and synthetic radionuclides in the surface soil samples of Panjin Area at the background level, causing a very low health risk to the people in this area.
