Background:
Anthracycline-based chemotherapy agents are widely used and are highly effective, particularly for breast cancer treatment. Although the cardiotoxic effects of anthracyclines on left ventricular (LV) function are well established, their impact on right ventricular (RV) function has not been sufficiently investigated. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of anthracycline therapy on RV function and to compare them with LV function to determine the potential cardiotoxic effects on both ventricles.
Methods:
This single-center retrospective cohort study included 38 female patients with breast cancer who were treated with anthracyclines between January 2021 and June 2023. Echocardiographic parameters and cardiac biomarkers were evaluated at baseline and at 6-month follow-up visit. LV ejection fraction (LVEF) was calculated using the Teichholz method due to the retrospective design. RV function was assessed by tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP), and the TAPSE/sPAP ratio. Cancer therapy–related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD) was defined according to current European Society of Cardiology criteria. Serum troponin I and pro–brain natriuretic peptide levels were recorded. Paired comparisons were performed using the paired-samples t-test.
Results:
Following anthracycline therapy, LV end-systolic diameter increased (2.76 ± 0.24 cm vs. 3.03 ± 0.29 cm, P < 0.001), and LVEF decreased (67.3% ± 3.6% vs. 62.2% ± 4.5%, P < 0.001). No patient fulfilled the guideline-defined criteria for CTRCD. Early diastolic transmitral flow velocity (E wave) and mitral annular early diastolic velocity (e′) were reduced (E: 0.63 ± 0.16 m/sec vs. 0.52 ± 0.12 m/sec, P < 0.001; e′: 0.09 ± 0.03 m/sec vs. 0.07 ± 0.02 m/sec, P = 0.001).TAPSE decreased (2.28 ± 0.36 cm vs. 2.16 ± 0.27 cm, P = 0.047), and systolic pulmonary artery pressure showed a nonsignificant upward trend after treatment (P = 0.052). The TAPSE/sPAP ratio declined (1.11 ± 0.47 vs. 0.86 ± 0.20, P < 0.001), and pulmonary artery diameter increased (19.9 ± 2.0 mm vs. 21.3 ± 2.6 mm, P = 0.008). Serum troponin I levels increased significantly (4.84 ± 1.25 ng/L vs. 11.93 ± 4.91 ng/L, P < 0.001).
Conclusions
Anthracycline therapy may be associated with modest changes in both LV and RV parameters. Reductions in TAPSE and the TAPSE/sPAP ratio, together with a nonsignificant upward trend in systolic pulmonary artery pressure, may reflect subtle alterations in RV–pulmonary arterial interactions rather than overt RV dysfunction. Routine evaluation of RV function, alongside LV assessment, may provide additional insights during cardiotoxicity monitoring in anthracycline-treated patients. These findings should be interpreted cautiously and confirmed in larger prospective studies.

Background:
Currently, clinical T staging in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is based on the largest radiological diameter observed on computed tomography (CT). Under this system, tumors with varying shapes—such as spherical, amorphous, or spiculated tumors—can be assigned the same T stage even with different volumes. We aimed to propose a 3-dimensional (3D) volumetric staging system for NSCLC as an alternative to diameter-based T staging and to conduct comparative survival analyses between these methods.
Methods:
We retrospectively analyzed data from patients who underwent surgery for pT1-4N0M0 primary NSCLC between January 2018 and May 2022. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine data from patient CT scans were uploaded to 3D Slicer software for volumetric tumor measurement. Using the paired samples t-test or the Wilcoxon test, we compared the expected tumor volumes, calculated by tumor diameter, with the actual volumes measured by 3D Slicer. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was employed to determine the cut-off value for tumor volume. Kaplan-Meier analysis was utilized to assess overall survival, while the log-rank method was applied to compare survival differences between groups. The significance of changes in T stage was evaluated using the marginal homogeneity test.
Results:
The study included 136 patients. Significant differences were observed between expected and actual tumor volumes (p=0.01), and associated changes in T stage were also significant (p=0.04). The survival analysis performed using tumor volume (p=0.009) yielded superior results compared to that based on diameter (p=0.04) in paients with early tumor stage.
Conclusion
T-factor staging based on tumor volume could represent an alternative staging method for NSCLC.

The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics 2020;12(3):114-123
PURPOSE:
. The aim of this study was to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the specimens produced by five different commercial metal laser sintering (MLS) systems with their recommended Co-Cr alloy powders.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
. The MLS machines and the alloy powders used were, ProX 100-ST2724G (St-Pro), Mysint 100-EOS SP2 (SP2-Mys), EOSINT 270-EOS SP2 (SP2-EOS), SLM 100-Starbond CoS (SB-SLM), and MLab Cusing-Remanium® Star (RS-MLab), respectively. Eight specimens from each group were prepared. Open circuit potential (Eocp) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements of polished surfaces of the specimens were conducted in a three-electrode cell using a potentiostat-galvanostat in Fusayama-Meyer artificial saliva (AS). Specimens from each group were immersed in AS and de-ionized water for seven days. Eocp, charge transfer resistance (Rct) values, and released ions (μg/cm2 × 7d) in different solutions were determined. The specimen surfaces were observed with SEM/EDS. Results were analyzed statistically.
RESULTS:
. Eocp values have shifted to potentials that are more positive over time. Steady-state Eocp values were from high to low as follows, SB-SLM, SP2-Mys, SP2-EOS, RS-MLab, and ST-Pro, respectively. After 60 mins, RS-MLab specimens had the highest Rct value, followed by SP2-Mys, SB-SLM, SP2-EOS, and ST-Pro. In all groups, ion release was higher in AS than that in de-ionized water.
CONCLUSION
. There were small differences among the corrosion resistances of the Co-Cr alloy specimens produced with MLS systems; meanwhile, the corrosion resistances were quite high for all specimens.

Pseudotumor cerebri is a condition of increased intracranial pressure in the absence of clinical, laboratory or radiological pathology. Spinal intradural hematoma formation after lumboperitoneal shunt (LPS) implantation is very rare, but it can cause sudden and serious deterioration. In this report, we present a patient who developed an intradural hematoma following LPS operation. A 27-year-old male patient suffering from headaches and progressive vision loss was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri. He underwent LPS operation in January 2009. Four hours after the operation, he developed urinary and fecal incontinence with paraparesis (1/5). Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging identified an intradural hematoma at the level of L2-L3, and he was reoperated. The intradural hematoma was removed. Physical therapy was started because of paraparesis. Two months later, the patient's muscle strength had increased to 3/5. Surgeons must remember that, LPS implantation can cause a spinal intradural hematoma in a small percentage of patients, with catastrophic results.
