A Case of Mondor's Disease.

Geun Soo LEE ; Hyung Geun MIN ; Kyu Joong AHN ; Chong Ju LEE

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):64-67. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.64

We report a case of Mondor's disease, or superficial thrombophlebitis of the chest wall, which occured in a 35-year-old female after a mild blunt trauma of the right chest wall. She had 0.3 × 25 cm, firm, tender, bifurcated cord-like lesions on the right chest and upper abdomen for two weeks. The histopathologic findings corresponded to the “thrombus organization” stage of Mondor's disease, characterized by numerous small areas of recanalization with marked surrounding fibrosis. The patient was treated with non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs and warm compresses. Within 7 weeks, the cord-like lesions virtually disappeared.

A Case of Neurilemmomatosis.

Seung Chul LEE ; Inn Ki CHUN ; Young Pio KIM

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):58-63. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.58

Neurilemmomatosis is a clinical entity consisting of multiple cutaneous neurilemmomas, central nervous system tumors, and neurologic disorders. Since Shishiba et al first described the disorder in 1984, several cases have been reported. We report a Korean case of neurilemmomatosis showing multiple neurilemmomas of the skin and spinal cord, with associated motor and sonsory nerve disturbance. Histologic, immunohistopathologic and electron microscopic studies confirmed the diagnosis.

Sweet's Syndrome with Myelodysplastic Syndrome Progressing to Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.

Seung Ho CHANG ; Jai Il YOUN ; Yoo Shin LEE

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):54-57. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.54

Sweet's syndrome is an important cutaneous sign of underlying myeloproliferative disorder. The majority of cases have occurred with acute leukemia, primarily of the myelogenous type. We described a case of Sweet's syndrome in a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome that preceded acute myelogenous leukemia by 9 months.

Porokeratotic Eccrine Ostial and Dermal Duct Nevus.

Woo Chul SHIM ; Yoo Deuk LEE ; Seung Hun LEE

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):49-53. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.49

A 6-year-old boy with porokeratotic eccrine ostial and dermal duct nevus on the left sole is reported. The patient was born with keratotic plugs, each measuring 1-2 mm in diameter, on the left sole. Light-microscopic examination revealed epidermal invagination and cornoid lamella, which was found to be connected with hyperplastic intraepidermal and dermal eccrine duct. The present case can be histologically differentiated from nevus comedonicus and punctate porokeratotis.

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):45-48. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.45

A 17-year-old male was presented withfpruritic grouped erythematous papules on the face, chest, upper back, both axillae, and genital area. The histologic picture of a benign papilloma and spongiosis around the acrosyringium were prominent findings. The term acrosyringeal epidermal nevus is proposed for this histological picture, and some explanations for its pathogenesis are suggested.

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):40-44. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.40

We report a case of porokeratotic eccrine ostial and dermal duct nevus in a 28-year old man. The skin lesions, present since birth, were multiple keratotic papules and punctate pits on the palms, soles and heels bilaterally. Histopathologically, the lesion was characterized by dilatation and hyperplasia of the eccrine sweat ducts with parakeratotic plugs related to sweat gland pores. This entity should be considered the differential diagnosis of other types of porokeratosis and comedo-like keratosis on palms and soles.

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):37-39. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.37

Fifteen cases of genital warts were examined for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) using polymerise chain reaction (PCR). HPV6/11 DNA were found in all cases of genital warts. The PCR based methods described here provide a sensitive, accurate means of detecting genital HPVs.

Observation of Follicular Morphology of Alopecia Areata by the Duration of the Lesion.

Kwnag Suk KANG ; Chull Wan IHM

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):23-31. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.23

Students of alopecia areata (AA) face confusion in the understanding of the follicular status of the lesion. This confusion partly is related to varing histopathological descriptions given by different authors. In an attempt to clarify these varing descriptions, we made our own observations on 45 scalp biopsies from the patients with AA. The lesions were devided into four groups by the duration of the alopecia. The results were as in the following. Initial stage (within 2 weeks after the onset, 5 cases) showed mostly the catagen stage of terminal hair follicles and pigmentary incontinence in all cases. Only 2 cases (40%) showed significant cellular infiltrate. Progressive stage (between 2 weeks and several months after onset, 11 cases) showed catagen follicles of terminal hair with the development of miniature follicles among them. Pigmentary incontinence and inflammatory cell infiltrate were seen in 9 cases (82%) and 8 cases (73%) respectively. In established stage (26 cases), miniature follicles were predominant with pigmentary incontinence (73%: 19 cases) and cellular infiltrate (69%: 18 cases). In recovery stage, there were normal anagen follicles with absent or decreased inflammatory cells and pigmentary incontinence. A proposal that hair follicles better be designated not only with their stages but also with their types is presented.

Studies on the Effects of Various Topical Phototoxic Drugs and UVA on Melanocytes of C57 BL Mice.

Yoon Kee PARK ; You Chan KIM ; Seung Kyung HANN ; Moo Yon CHO ; Sang Wahn KOO

Annals of Dermatology.1991;3(1):15-22. doi:10.5021/ad.1991.3.1.15

One hundred sixteen C57 BL mice were painted with either 8-MOP, 5-MOP or TMP solution in concentrations of 0.02%, 0.1%, and 0.5% each and UVA irradiated. Skin biopsies were performed at 1, 3, 5 and 7 weeks after LJVA irradiation. The results measuring the number, area, and perimeter of the melanocytes after topical PLJVA were higher in the TMP-painted group than in the 8-MOP or 5-MOP painted groups. In all groups, the weekly changes showed an increasing value through five weeks. In comparing the drug concentrations used, 0.1% of chemicals produced the same or higher values than 0.5%. There have been few studies on the effects of 5-MOP in photochemotherapy. In tho study 5-MOP produced a pigment-producing effect similar to 8-MOP. Therefore, if topical PIJVA with 5-MOP is used in clinical practice, we could expect a significant therapeutic effect in vitiligo.
