Ongoing improvement of medical services for large-scale activities as guided by patient satisfaction

A satisfaction survey carried out by Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, found differences of patient satisfaction between locals and overseas patients in consulting environment, outpatient procedure, quality of service, quality of diagnosis and treatment. The patient satisfaction of overseas patients was lower than locals. Especially noteworthy is the low satisfaction of the former for the hospital coloring, privacy in the sector, registration, vocal communication, patient condition statement, nurse attitude and service quality. Real-time improvement in these aspects of medical services has harvested obvious progress. Results of the satisfaction survey provided valuable reference materials for large-scale activities, and ongoing improvement of medical services in the long run.

Creation of a special medical service mechanism for large international sport events

For medical service provision for the Olympic Games, a special medical service mechanism for important international sport events eventually took shape, based on task analysis and medical services provided in test games for two years including 2006 and 2007 Qingdao Sailing Regatta. This mechanism features the following: First, "7-Special" sport event medical practice - Medical zones, medical teams, service flows, service signs, medical papers, and drug management, all exclusively earmarked for the event; Second, medical services up to international standard; Third, special flows for medical rescue; Fourth, Special system for information reporting. Thanks to this special mechanism, the hospital provided its medical assurance for the Olympic Games successfully, and upgraded its routine medical services as a result.

Review and analysis of the medical service provision for Beijing Olympic Games by Peking Union Medical College Hospital has contributed to the following experiences: Building of a general coordination center, emphasis to key persons, key timing, and key steps, development and implementation of contingency plans, and hardware preparations in advance among others. These experiences will be highly inspirational for provision of international medical services and large medical assurance tasks.

Study on the process standardization for in-patient charge management

In-patient charge remains a bottleneck in the practice of healthcare charges for its numerous items, complex procedures, high amount, numerous persons involved, and long duration. In terms of healthcare charge information system, in-patient charge items pricing and input, and in-patient charge review, this study probes into the standardization of the information system for healtheare charges. In addition, it summarizes standardized paths for in-patient charges management, in order to provide worthy experiences for standardization management of in-patient charges.

Emergency medical service for the Beijing Olympic Games and its outcome

Emergency Medical Service (EMS) of Beijing Olympic Games needs to cover not only all the venues of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, but also emergency medical service for citizens at large and other emergency events. To this end, Beijing Emergency Medical Center made efficient preparations for the Olympic Games, namely upgraded dispatch system, first-aid stations, ambulances and equipment, and volunteer recruitment among others. Thanks to such efforts made, the EMS successfully served the Beijing Olympic Games and citizens at large. Furthermore, the Beijing Olympic Games promoted the development of the Beijing EMS system.

Building of the clinic for the Olympic Fencing Hall

Clinics in the Olympic venues make a critical component in the medical service system for Olympic venues. The clinic in the fencing hall is cited as an example in this paper, which introduced the experiences and lessons learnt from the site preparation, personnel deployment and management, rules and regulations, and drug/instrumentation readiness.

Effects of Prescription Administrative Policy on prescription quality of a tertiary hospital

Objective To discover the effects of the Prescription Administrative Policy in force on the quality of the prescriptions in a tertiary hospital in 2007. Methods The prescriptions of 400 cases were sampled systematically for evaluation, and 60 patients were interviewed. Results The average eligibility rate of the prescriptions was but 37. 2% in this hospital, which was mainly plagued by incompleteness, nonstandard and irrationality found in prescriptions. Implementation of the Policy contributed to a significant improvement of some indicators. For example, the eligibility rate increased by 12. 2% (P=0. 004) ,the percentage of the use of antimicrobial agents dropped significantly (P=0. 001),and the percentage of generic names used rose significantly (P = 0. 000). Conclusions The implementation of the Policy is highly positive for prescription quality.
