Yuanjian YUAN ; Guangming LUO ; Chunhua WEI ; Yaqi RAO ; Yuhong GONG

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.2016;18(7):1206-1211. doi:10.11842/wst.2016.07.021

This study aimed to optimize the ultrasonic extraction of gardenia oils from Gardenia jasminoides Ellis.by response surface analysis methodology (RSM).The duration of extraction, ratio of liquid to materials and extracting times were selected as impact factors based on single-factor experiment.RSM was adopted to learn the effects of the three factors on the extraction rate of Gardenia oil from Gardeniajasminoides Ellis. As a result,it was found that the duration of extraction was 28.7 min, while the ratio of liquid to materials was 11.62:1,and the number of extracting times were 3.36.Under this extracting condition, the average extraction rate of the oil was 13.5% according to three validation experiments, fitting the predicted value well.In conclusion,it was demonstrated that the ultrasonic extraction method effectively improved the extraction rate of gardenia oil, providing a certain basis for the development and utilization of gardenia oil.

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.2016;18(7):1199-1205. doi:10.11842/wst.2016.07.020

This study aimed to explore the mechanism of volatile oil from purslane in treating itch induced by eczema through establishing the itch model, stimulating the keratinocyte with capsaicine (CAP).SD rats were divided into the control group, the model group, the high dose group of volatile oil from purslane, and low dose group of volatile oil from purslane. After finishing the experiment, the morphology of keratinocytes was observed by immunofluorescence technique, while Ca2+ concentration was detected by flow cytometry, and the contents of leukotriene A4 methyl ester (LTA4),interleukin-31 (IL-31) and hydroxy trptamine H1 (HTH1) were quantified by ELISA assay. The expression of TRPV1 mRNA in keratinocytes was tested by RT-PCR,while the protein level of TRPV1 was quantified by western blot.Compared with the model group,it was found that the cell count of positive keratinocytes, the Ca2+ concentration, the levels of LTA4,IL-31 and HTH1,and the mRNA and protein expressions of TRPV1 in the high dose and low dose groups were significantly decreased (P < 0.05).In conclusion,it was demonstrated that the volatile oil from purslane may relieve itch through inhibiting the activation of TRPV1 and reducing secondary inflammatory reaction.

Xinying LI ; Haidong GUAN ; Wei WANG

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.2016;18(7):1188-1194. doi:10.11842/wst.2016.07.018

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs about 18-25 nucleotides in length, involved in post-transcriptional genes regulation process.Previous studies showed that miRNAs played an important regulatory role in pancreatic development, gene expression, and synthesis and secretion of insulin.A variety of miRNAs which expressed in islet β cells may affect the proliferation and differentiation of islet β cells.Since miRNAs showed tissue specificity, their expression changes were closely related to some diseases. Thus, integrative studies with miRNAs over the essence of syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine could provide new ideas for the treatment of diabetes.

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.2014;(1):112-115. doi:10.11842/wst.2014.01.021

Tibetan ancient literature is an important foundation for the development of Tibetan medicine and clinical research. The essential features and advantages of inheritance and development of Tibetan medicine play an ines-timable role. Jing-Zhu Materia Medica is by far the most important Tibetan medicine monograph. This book is rich in content, national characteristics, featured prominent plateau, which is practical in the clinical application. This ar-ticle analyzed the literature value and academic characteristics of Jing-Zhu Materia Medica from the drug classifi-cation, medicinal processing method, and comparison between Tibetan medicine and Chinese medicine. It promoted the analysis of ancient Tibetan medicine literatures to provide references for the scientific research, medical practice and application development of Tibetan medicine.

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.2016;18(7):1108-1112. doi:10.11842/wst.2016.07.004

This study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of facial color features' evaluation in the dignosis and the treatment of bronchial asthma (BA) in children, providing an objective basis and therapeutic evaluation for its clinical studies.Parameters of the fratures of facial complexions of 129 children with BA were detected using.TCM-Ⅰ Smart type of life information analysis system. Then the parameters of the features of facial complexions in the children was analyzed and explored. It was found that red faces were common in asthma children during the acute stage, while withered faces were presented in the children with BA during the remission stage, lacking bright cheeks in the children of both the two stages. The H values and the S values of the features of facial complexions in the children with BA were significantly higher than those of the healthy children (P < 0.05),while the V values of the children with BA were significantly lower than those of the healthy children (P < 0.05).Besides,the H values and the V values of the features of facial complexions in the children with BA during the acute period were significantly lower than those in the remission stage (P < 0.05).In conclusion,it was demonstrated that the characteristics of facial complexions may provide an objective basis for the prognosis of bronchial asthma in children.

Hua LIAN ; Chunjie MA ; Relebagen HU ; Chao LI ; Haiguang TIAN ; Zhibin XIAO

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.2016;18(7):1212-1218. doi:10.11842/wst.2016.07.022

The present study aimed to explore the effects of Eerdun-Wurile on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) expressions in the prefrontal cortex of MCAO / R injury rats.Sixty SD male rats of SPF grade were selected to establish the model of MCAO / R with Zea-Longa thread occlusion, and divided into five groups at random:the sham operation group, the model group, the nimodipine group and the Eerdun-Wurile group. After modeling, rats were anesthetized for preparing the brains. The pathomorphological changes of the brains were evaluated by immunohistochemical techniques, such as HE staining and SP.The protein and mRNA expressions of BDNF and NGF in the prefrontal cortex of rats were detected by ELISA and RT-PCR,respectively.As a result, compared with the model group,it was found that the number of necrotic cells in the prefrontal cortex were significantly reduced in the Eerdun-Wurile group (P < 0.05),while the mRNA and protein expressions of BDNF and NGF were significantly increased (P < 0.05).In conclusion, the BDNF and NGF expressions in the prefrontal cortex were up-regulated for stimulating the activation of astrocytes and protecting the neurons with the treatment of Eerdun-Wurile in MCAO / R injured rats, which may be the mechanism of the treatment of Eerdun-Wurile for white vein disease.

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.2016;18(7):1195-1198. doi:10.11842/wst.2016.06.019

This study aimed to elucidate the effects of different soil water contents on the yield and quality of R.glutinosa.Different soil water contents were adjusted in different periods of growth of R.glutinosa.The yield, content of water extract, catalpol, verbascoside and polysaccharide were determined and analysed by the grey pattern recognition after harvests. The impacts of soil water content from the most important to the least important were medium moisture content (M2),high moisture content (M3),low moisture content (M1) and blank (M4).In the cultivation of R.glutinosa, the soil water content should be remained in the range of 40%-50% at seedling stage, while 50%-60% at the stage of root formation and tuber enlargement, and 20%-30% during harvesting, which can significantly improve the yield and quality of R.glutinosa.
