To investigate atrial septum and right atrial appendage pacing for prevention of new-on atrial fibrillation

Shenghao LIU ; Jian XU ; Ji YAN

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(8):1197-1199.

66 patients with sick sinus syndrome were enrolled in this study. All patients meeting the indications for dual chamber pacing were randomly divided into two groups: right atrial appendage(RAA) pacing group was made up of 36 patients and low atrial septal(LAS) pacing group was made up of 30 patients. Follow-up was 12 months. The incidence of atrial fibrillation(AF) was lower in LAS group(3. 3% ) compared with the RAA group(19. 4% );P wave dispersion in RAA group was significantly higher than that in the LAS group (P < 0. 01). After 3 months of the operation, left atrial volume index(LAVI) in RAA group was significantly larger than that in the LAS group. In LAS group compared with the RAA group P wave dispersion and LAVI were significantly lower after operation in sick sinus syndrome. LAS pacing was superior to RAA pacing in preventing new atrial fibrillation.

Yong WU ; Yi LIU

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(8):1124-1127.

Objective To investigate the expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in colorectal carcinoma and the rela-tionship between ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and the occurrence, the metastasis of colorectal carcinoma, and to analyze the significance. Methods Immunohistochemistry staining(S-P method) was used to detect the expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 on consecutive section in 78 cases of colorectal carcinoma and normal mucosa and 42 cases of colorec-tal adenomas. Plasma was obtained from 78 patients with colorectal carcinoma and 40 healthy volunteers prior sur-gery, by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results There was significant difference between the high expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in colorectal carcinoma and the low expression in normal mucosa and ade-noma(P < 0. 01). Serum ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 were significantly higher in patients with colorectal carcinoma than those in normal control group(P < 0. 01). The ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 levels were not related to sex, age, tumor lo-cation and histological grades(P > 0. 05),but had significantly statistical difference between lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage(P < 0. 01). Conclusion The increase expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in colorectal cancer suggests that the ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 may play an important role in evaluation of malignant degree and judging the progress as well as the mechanism of colorectal cancer.

Rutin inhibits hydrogen peroxide-induced apoptosis through PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in human lens epithelial cells

Bin GUO ; Yanfeng ZHOU

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(8):1107-1110.

Objective To explore whether PI3K/ AKT signaling pathway participates in the inhibiting effect of Ru-tin on H2 O2-induced apoptosis in human lens epithelial cells( HLEC). Methods HLEC were divided into four groups: control group,H2 O2 group, rutin group,LY294002 group. Cell survival rates were determined by a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay; cell apoptosis rates were monitored by flow cytometry with Annexin V-FITC and propidiun iodide(PI) staining. Western blot was used to measure the expres-sion levels of AKT and p-AKT. Results H2 O2 induced HLEC apoptosis. Compared with H2 O2 group, rutin group not only increased the expression lever of p-AKT,but also reduced cell apoptosis rate(P < 0. 01). In LY294002 group, LY294002, an inhibitor of PI3K/ AKT signaling pathway, could significantly block the change of these inde-xes produced by rutin group(P < 0. 01), but no significant change compared with H2 O2 group. Conclusion Rutin inhibits H2 O2-induced cell apoptosis and may be associated with PI3K/ AKT signaling pathway.

Quanxia CAO ; Chandong DING

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(7):1024-1028.

Objective To investigate the protective effects of alpha-lipoic (α-LA) on H9c2 cardiomyocytes under-going hypoxia or hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R) injury and explore its possible mechanisms. Methods H9c2 car-diomyocytes in hypoxia or H/R injury researches were respectively divided into normal control group, hypoxia or H/R group, hypoxia or H/R + α-LA group (LA group), hypoxia or H/R+α-LA + Daidzin group (Daidzin group) and hypoxia or H/R+α-LA +DMSO group ( DMSO group) . The myocardial cell survival was detected by MTT,the activity of LDH and ALDH2 were respectively analyzed by microtitration and ELISA,the MDA level was measured by TBA. Results Compared to the normal control group, the cell survival rates of hypoxia and H/R group were decreased ( P<0. 01 ) , the levels of MDA and LDH were significantly increased ( P<0. 01 ) . Compared to the hypoxia or H/R group, the cell survival rates and ALDH2 activities of LA group were improved (P<0. 05), the levels of MDA and LDH were decreased (P<0. 01). Compared to the LA group and DMSO group, the cell survival rates and ALDH2 activities of Daidzin group were decreased ( P<0. 05 ) , the levels of MDA and LDH were increased ( P<0. 05 ) , and no significant differences of all the above measures were found between LA group and DMSO group ( P>0. 05 ) . Conclusion α-LA can protect H9 c2 cardiomyocytes from hypoxia or H/R injury by means of upregulating activities of ALDH2 and decreasing hypoxia or H/R induced lipid peroxidation.

Pei ZHANG ; Yonggui WU ; Min LU

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(7):991-995.

Objective To discuss the expression of tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis ( TWEAK) in serum, urine and renal tissue in lupus nephritis( LN) . Methods The serum and urine levels of TWEAK were assessed by ELISA in LN patients and normal controls. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expressions of TWEAK in the kidney of patients and healthy controls. Results The serum and urine concentrations of TWEAK and MCP-1 were significantly higher in LN patients than those in healthy controls(P<0. 01). In addition, the level of serum TWEAK showed positive correlation with SLEDAI and negative correlation with serum C3 level ( P <0. 01),the expression of urine TWEAK showed positive correlation with SLEDAI (P<0. 05). In healthy renal tis-sues TWEAK was distributed mainly in renal tubules and rarely seen in glomerular while the expressions of TWEAK increased in renal tubular and glomeruli stainings were found in LN paitients. TWEAK could induce increased mac-rophage migration, may be involved in the pathological progression of lupus nephritis. Conclusion TWEAK may play key roles in the pathogenesis of LN. Meanwhile, TWEAK in serum and urine may be useful as markers of dis-ease activity. The change of TWEAK maybe associated with the pathology category of LN.

Kai LI ; Zhengxiang WU ; Feng YANG

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(7):954-957.

Objective To observe the role of cannabinoid receptor-2 (CB2) in acute experimental colitis in mice, and to explore its effect on the endoplasmic reticulum stress ( ERS ) in the intestinal mucosa . Methods 32 SPF mice were randomly divided into normal group, model group,CB2 agonist group and CB2 antagonist group. Disease activity index( DAI) and colon histopathological score( HS) were evaluatd. The levels of TNF-α and IL-10 in colon tissue were detected by ELISA. The expression of CB2 and ERS markers GRP78, CHOP in colon tissues were de-tected by immunohistochemical. The mRNA levels of GRP78 and CHOP were detected by RT-PCR. Results Com-pared with the normal group, the level of TNF-αwas significantly higher and the level of IL-10 was significantly low-er(P<0. 05) in the model group, the expressions of GRP78, CHOP and its mRNA were significantly higher(P<0. 05). Compared with the model group, the expression of CB2 in the CB2 agonist group was significantly higher(P<0. 05),the level of TNF-α dropped and the level of IL-10 increased(P<0. 05),and the expressions of GRP78, CHOP and its mRNA were significantly reduced(P<0. 05). The level of IL-10,TNF-α and ERS markers had no significant difference bewteen CB2 antagonist group and the model group ( P>0. 05 ) . Conclusion Severe endo-plasmic reticulum stress exists in intestinal mucosa of experimental colitis mice. The CB2 agonist activates CB2 ex-pression,reducing colitis in mice. Its mechanism may be related to inhibiting ERS in intestinal mucosa.

Analysis of infection and drug resistance of bacteria in respiratory tract of senile patients with AECOPD

Xuebo YAN

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(8):1161-1164.

Objective To understand infection and drug resistance of bacteria in respiratory tract of senile inpa-tients with multiple acute exacerbation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD). Methods An analysis of the common culture of sputum specimens and drug sensitive experiment in 399 senile inpatients with acute exacer-bation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) who were hospitalized more than or equal to two times. Results 172 strains of bacteria were isolated, and gram negative bacilli accounted for 86. 05% and the top three were A. baumanii, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae. Drug sensitive experiment showed that extensively drug-resist-ant (XDR) rate of A. baumanii decreased and XDR rate of P. aeruginosa and K. pneumoniae increased in 2014 compared with that in 2013, but no significant difference was detected. A. baumanii was all resistant to ampicillin, cefazolin and cefotaxime. P. aeruginosa was seriously resistant to more than one drug, and the resistance to mero-pene increased significantly in 2014. The sensitivity of K. pneumoniae to more than one drug decreased markedly in 2014. Conclusion Gram negative bacilli are the main bacteria in respiratory tract of senile patients with AECO-PD, hospitalized more than or equal to two times, and antibiotic resistance is serious. Understanding the distribu-tion and drug resistance of common bacteria may be helpful to guide the rational use of antibiotics before the drug sensitivity test.

Bin LI ; Jin CAI ; Yi SHEN

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(8):1146-1149.

Objective To investigate the common etiologies, sports and learning situation of children in Nantong with short stature, and discuss the relationship between the two. Methods Did a retrospective analysis of 108 cases of children with short stature in Nantong University′s affiliated hospital since January 2012. Through detailed past illnesses, physical examination, laboratory tests, diagnose short stature and clarify the cause. Did a questionnaire to these children with short stature about sports and learning situation. Use statistical methods like multivariate Logis-tic regression analysis and link analysis to analyze sports and learning situation of children in Nantong with short sta-ture and find the relation with the etiology. According to the principle of group matching, the control group elected representative of 108 children. Results In 108 cases, 61 cases were because of growth hormone deficiency (GHD), accounting for 56. 5% ; 47 cases were because of non-growth hormone deficiency (NGHD), accounting for 43. 5% . Logistic regression analysis showed that participation in physical exercise was a protective factor. Rest-less anxiety and inattention were as risk factors, and these make a lot(P < 0. 001, OR = 7. 483, 95% CI = 2. 620 ~21. 374). There was no significant relation between common cause and sports, learning situation ( P > 0. 05). Conclusion Various types of sports (basketball, badminton, running, cycling) are protective factors for children of short stature. Restless anxiety and inattention are risk factors for children with short stature. Whether there is growth hormone deficiency or not, children with short stature should increase the right exercise as much as possible and avoid or reduce exposure to these risk factors.

Animal studies of melatonin suppression alcoholic fatty liver development

Qizhen HU ; Rutao HONG ; Xuemei GAO

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui.2015;(8):1115-1118.

Objective To investigate the protective effects of melatonin and possible mechanisms on rats with alco-holic fatty liver (AFL). Methods All rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal group (n = 10), model group (n = 12) and melatonin groups (10 mg / kg, 20 mg / kg; n = 10, respectively). The model of rats’ alcoholic fatty liver was induced by intragastric influsion of ethanol for 8 weeks. The melatonin groups’ rats received melato-nin by intraperitoneal injection after intragastric infusion of ethanol. Histopathological changes were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin staining. The expressions of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were detected by immunohistochemical methods. The detection of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels and alanine transarninase (ALT) levels and the total bilirubin ( TBIL) levels in serum were provided by routine laboratory methods using an autoanalyzer. The levels of malondialdehyde ( MDA) and activities of glutathione peroxidase ( GPx) were measured by spectrophotometry. Results Compared with the normal group, the liver cells of the mod-el group showed obvious steatosis and significant swelling. However, less degree and less extensive of steatosis and swelling were observed in the melatonin groups. Compared with the normal group, the levels of ALT, AST and TBIL in serum and the levels of MDA in liver homogenates were significantly increased in the model group (P <0. 01), and the activities of GPx were distinctly decreased in the model group(P < 0. 01). But in the melatonin groups, the levels of ALT, AST and TBIL in serum and the levels of MDA in liver homogenates were decreased (P< 0. 01), and the activities of GPx were increased (P < 0. 01). Additionally, melatonin lessened the expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in liver obviously (P < 0. 01). Conclusion Melatonin may inhibit the development of alcoholic fatty liver and its possible mechanism is the ability to resist oxidative stress and lessen the expression of TNF-α and IL-6 and other relevant factors in liver.
