Analysis of blood pressure measurements from the brachial and radial arteries in children

Chunxiang WANG ; Junfu ZHOU ; Fang YE

Chinese Journal of Nursing.2001;36(3):171-172.

Objective:To determine the relationship between brachia l artery blood pressure and radial artery blood pressure in children and whether blood pressure measured from the radial artery can replace blood pr essure measured from the brachial artery. Methods:Brachial and rad ial artery pressures in 105 children were measured using an electronic sphygmomanometer. Results:There was no significant difference between the average values of blood pressures of the brachial and radial arteries in the 105 children studied (P>0.05). Linear regression and correlation analyses showed that there was a positive linear correlation between the systolic pressure of the b rach ial artery and the radial artery in the 105 children, as well as a posit ive linear correlation between the diastolic pressures of the brachial and the radial arteries. Conclusion:Blood pressure values from the radial artery can completely replace blood pressure values from the brachial artery.

Societal-Psychological factors affecting anorexia an children

Maoying LIN ; Xinru HONG

Chinese Journal of Nursing.2001;36(3):168-170.

Objective:To investigate the environmental factors a nd individual personalities of anorectic children in order to improve their nu rsing care.Methods:Forty-six children with anorexia caused by emotional disorders and 50 healthy children were tested by a societa l-psychological factor questionnaire and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (Junior) to observe their external environmental factors and individual persona lities, respectively. Results:Encidence of pressures from school work, forced eatin g by parents and family discord emerged more frequently in the anorectic group than in the co ntrol group.Scores in the anorectic group were significantly lower in the scale E level and markedly higher in the scale N level than those of the control group (P<0.01).There was no significant difference between the two groups in the P and L scales .Conclusion:The three factors mentioned above were most closely related to onset of disease, among the factors we observed. Both an intro verted personality and unstable emotions are key, characteristics that can induc e anorexia when affected by these factors.Comprehensive nursing care, mainly cons isting of psychiatric-behavioral correction,is proposed to obviate the inducing factors and rectify emotional disorders to promote recovery from anorexia.

Xiaofang QIAN ; Jianlian XIAO ; Yuying XU

Chinese Journal of Nursing.2001;36(1):15-16.

Objective:To explore the best bathing posture in neo nates. Methods:Normal mature neonates 664 total were randomly seperated into two groups .The bathing posture was the traditional upwards from face to back in the control group, but upwards from back to face in the experimental group .The noise and comfort levels of the neonates were observed. Results:Uncomfortableness in the experimental gr oup was markedly lowerthan in the control group(χ2=45.78,P<0.0001).Bathing style,i.e.in basin or in shower, did not have an effect on the postures (P> 0.05).Conc lusion:The bathing posture of upwards from back to face is better than upwards from face to back.In this position, the neonates feel safer and more comfortable, and can be stroked while being bathed by the neonates' parents.

Chunhua YANG ; Yuxia SUN ; Pingjing LU

Chinese Journal of Nursing.2001;36(1):16-18.

Objective:To provide the basis for postoperative nutritional support, exp lore the appropriate support methods and its influnce on rehabilitation in postoperative patients with laryngea l carcinoma.Methods:285 patients with laryngeal carcinoma were randomly divided into therapy group and control group. The therapy group (161 patients)was given homogenate diet and the control group(124 patients) was given mixed mi lk by nasal feeding 5-6 times per day.The nutritional index and occurr ence of pharyrgeal fistula were monitored at preoperation,7th and 14th days postopera tion r espectively. The duration of hospitalization of each patient was recorded at the same time. Results:The decreasing of the nutritional index w as significantly lower in the therapy group than in the control group(P<0.0 5).The duration of hospitalization was shortented to about 12 days, and the incidence of pharyngeal fistul a was reduced to 11%.Conclusion:The appropriate nutrition may decrease the incidence of pharyngeal fistula, shorten the mean duration in hospital and reduce the economic burden of postoperative patients with laryngeal carcinoma.

Lanshu ZHOU ; Shuzhen LI ; Anli JIANG

Chinese Journal of Nursing.2001;36(1):13-15.

Objective:To study the epidemiology of inpatients with fractures and discuss its effect on health education. Methods:Therer were 6290 inpatie nts with fracture investigated retrospectively.FoxPro and SPSS were used for statistical analysis. Results:The mean age of the patients was 41.03±20.05 years. The fraction male to female patients was 2.39:1.The mean hospitalized days were 24.11±22.73 days (±s).A majority(63.5%) of the patients were admitted to the hospital by emerg ency.Fractures in 15 parts accounted for 70% of total fractures in 6 hospital, 7 of which accounted for more than 50% of total fractures in each hospital.Discussion:Health education should be carried out according to risk factors as well as age and gender. The devel opment of the model, which combines prevention,first-aid and rehabilitation,is t he trend of health education for fractures. The basic knowledge of fractures in these 15 parts should be learned by orthopedic nurses.Patient education should be carried out individually. The hospital's situation should also be considered.

Yanxia HU ; Yanjun LIU ; Ting WANG ; Xiaomei LIN ; Guihua ZHOU ; Hui XIAO

Chinese Journal of Nursing.2010;45(1):45-46. doi:10.3761/j.issn.0254-1769.2010.01.018

Objective To summarize the experience of intraoperative care for the patients undergoing microsurgery via retrosigmoid keyhole approach, so as to improve the treatment effect and minimize complications. Method The clinical records on the intraoperative care of 100 patients undergoing microsurgery via retrosigmoid keyhole approach were retrospectively analyzed. Result Using the keyhole technique and small incision, the cerebellopontine angle lesions were exposed clearly. Moreover, the proper intraoperational cooperation shortened the duration of operation, reduced bleeding and minimized postoperative complications such as cerebrospinal fluid otorrhea, intracranial infection, intracranial hemorrhage, and subcutaneous hydrops. Conclusion Proper operational postures and intraoperative cooperation can make full use of the limited space of the microsurgery via retrosigmoid keyhole approach and ensure the success of the operation.
