The evaluation of three methods for the diagnosis of initial posterior approximal caries

Yun LI ; Yujing LI ; Lihua GE

Journal of Practical Stomatology.1996;0(02):-.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the bitewing radiograph(BWR),clinic examination(CE) and laser fluorescence examination (LF) for detection of initial posterior approximal caries . Methods:A total of 162 approximal surfaces from 81 extracted posterior teeth were examined by BWR, CE and LF. The histological diagnosis of sectioned teeth was used as the validating criterion (gold standard) to assess the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and reproducibility. Results: The sensitivity and accuracy of BWR was higher than those of CE or LF at the level of enamel caries. Conclusions: BWR is an accurate diagnostic method for initial posterior approximal caries in present clinic practice. The inferior efficacy of LF is mainly due to its poor reproducibility of approximal surfaces.

Random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis of candida isolates from oral carriage

Jufen ZHOU ; Yanying XU ; Ruoyu LI

Journal of Practical Stomatology.1996;0(02):-.

Objective: To compare the biotype and genetic similarity between groups of commensal and pathogenic strains of candida species. Methods:Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) was used to analyse the type of Candida albicans. Results: 12 pathogenic isolates of Candida albicans, 3 commensal isolates of Candida abicans and 3 isolates of pathogenic non-albicans were obtained. The similarity coefficient of albicans with non-albicans was 51.7% by RAPD. Intra-candida similarity coefficient was more than 70%. Both the commensal and pathogenic isolates showed the genetically similar to C. albicans. Intro-isolate DNA polymorphism was observed by RAPD. Conclusion: Both the commensal and pathogenic groups contain a major cluster of genetically similar C. albicans isolates.

Disinfection effect of root canal with non-filling medication in root canal therapy

Peng GUO ; Buling WU ; Yinghua BI

Journal of Practical Stomatology.1996;0(02):-.

Objective: To observe the clinical disinfection effect of root canal with non-filling medication. Methods: 36 patients who required root canal therapy(RCT) for apical periodontitis (acute or chronic) or pulp necrosis were involved in the study.RCT was completed after two visits in both groups. Non-filling medication was used as disinfection in 18 teeth of 18 patients (experimental group) while FC in another 18 teeth of 18 patients (control group) randomly at first visit. One week later, root canal was regularly filled to complete RCT.From each case, bacteria specimens were collected and identified before sealing and filling. Results: Bacteria were detected in every specimen in both groups before sealing, which were mixture of aerobes and anaerobes. One week later, only one strain was detected in one specimen of each group. Conclusion: Non-filling medication can be used as an effective disinfection to sterilize root canal.

The clinical evaluation of Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity

Hongqing WANG ; Weijian ZHONG ; Xiaofu QU

Journal of Practical Stomatology.1996;0(02):-.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity. Methods:270 teeth in 153 patients were equally divided into two groups at random. The teeth in the experimental group were treated with Nd:YAG laser at 265.5 J/cm 2 (0.75 W and 10 Hz for 2 min) for 3 times with the interval of 1 week, those in the control group were treated with Gluma desensitizer for 3 times with the interval of 2 d. Results:The effective rate of the experimental and control groups was 92.59% and 49.62% respectively (P

Reliability of 3 dimentional laser surface scanner for nasal anthropometry

Xiaofang LIU ; Yimin ZHAO ; Guofeng WU

Journal of Practical Stomatology.1996;0(02):-.

Objective: To test the reliability of 3 dimentional (3D) laser surface scanner for nasal anthropometry.Methods:11 plaster nasal models were measured by 3D laser surface scanner and manual measurement. The data were statistically analyzed. Results:In 9 out of the 10 parameters of nasal anthropometry, the correlation coefficient of the distances and angels measured by the 2 means was 0.856-1.000(P

Risk factors of endodontic interappointment emergencies and the intervention analysis of microwave endodontic sterilization

Peihao XIE ; Shaokai NI ; Qing LAN

Journal of Practical Stomatology.1996;0(02):-.

Objective: To analyze the correlated risk factors of endodontic interappointment emergencies(EIAE) and the intervention effect of microwave endodontic sterilization. Methods: 163 patients with chronic periodontitis, pulpitis or dental pulp necrosis (without acute inflammation) were involved in the study. All the patients were distributed into microwave group (n=80) and control group (n=83) randomly. Unitarily finished endodontic therapy was conduced in microwave group after the microwave endodontic sterilization. Same endodontic therapy was applied in control group but without microwave endodontic sterilization. Risk factors of EIAE were investigated by releasing questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Incidences of EIAE were related to age, gender, the position of the tooth, with or without fistula, filling condition and with or without microwave endodontic sterilization. The risk factors of EIAE of ultra-filling, posterior inferior tooth, the age older than 45 years and the female was 3.32,3.49, 5.87 and 3.71 respectively (P

A study on the regularity of center of rotation in the orthodontic treatment of embedded and inverted impact upper central incisor

Qinbo WANG ; Ling WANG ; Younan LIU

Journal of Practical Stomatology.1996;0(02):-.

Objective: To study the influence of different inhibition conditions for center of rotation (CR) and regularity variations of CR before and after orthodontic treatment of embedded and inverted impact upper central incisor. Methods:Based on clinical findings a computer model of rolling movement was established, then computer finite element Super DrawnⅡwas applied to establish an analytic analogue computing model for calculation. Results:The deeper the crown embedded by hard tissue, the more the edgewise displacement of CR;while the crown was normally exposed, the moving locus tended toward front and upward. Conclusions: Perpendicular orthodontic force to the long axis of tooth forced point that close to the incisal margin and the partly embedded crown by the alveolar bone, especially the bone of lingual aspect are the main factors for the upward moving and erectness of the root apex. Possible subsidence of CR may be avoided by suitable early stage orthodontic treatment.
