Abstract: Perinatal depression can cause adverse effects not only on maternal physical and mental health, but also abnormalities or damage to the brain structure and function of the offspring, resulting in short- or long-term effects on neurobehavioral development. This review summarizes the progress in this field and elaborates the mechanism from a neuroendocrinology and epigenetics point of view.
