Abstract:
Most of active ingredients from medicinal plants are secondary metabolites including alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, phenols, glycosides, and so on. The biosynthesis of secondary metabolites is not only determined by the plant internal factors but also influenced by the environmental factors, leading to the variation of synthetic quantity and the metabolite monomer composition. At present, transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulations have been found in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. More advances were achieved in transcriptional regulation. The paper reviews the progress obtained in the researches on transcription factors regulation of the biosynthesis of flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and other active ingredients from medicinal plants, which will be useful for further studies on the biosynthetic regulation of the active ingredients in medicinal plants.
