Correlation between serum vitamin D level and dyslipidaemias in medical staff

Abstract:
Objective To explore the relationship between low serum vitamin D levels and dyslipidaemias in medical staff. Methods A total of 754 medical staff that get physical examination in our hospital were enrolled in this study. Venous blood samples were obtained, then serum 25 (OH) D and lipids level were measured. Then the blood biochemical indexes of medical staff with different levels of vitamin D were compared and the correlation between 25 (OH) D and blood lipid related biochemical indexes were analyzed. Results The average serum 25 (OH) D in the 754 subjects was (15.94±7.41) ng/mL. Patients in severe vitamin D deficient group were 156 (20.69％), and in vitamin D deficient group were 418 (57.89％), as well as in vitamin D inadequate group were 147 (19.50％) and in vitamin D adequate group were 33 (4.38％) . After adjustment of age and gender, a significantly negative correlation was found between 25 (OH) D and BMI (r=-0.090, P=0.013), TC (r=-0.309, P<0.001), TG (r=-0.079, P=0.030) and LDL-C (r=-0.143, P<0.001) . Further multivariate linear regression analysis showed that TC was negatively correlated with vitamin D (β'=-0.298, P <0.001) . Conclusion Vitamin D deficiency is very common among medical staff and we should pay attention to this condition. Vitamin D deficiency is related to the increasing of serum TC.
