Clinical significance of expert consensus documents on clinical application of plasma exchange in pediatrics

Abstract:
Blood purification in children has developed in recent 20 years and been used in pediatric nephrolo-gy,neurology,hemotology,toxic and rheumatic disease. However,the lack of practice guideline leads to over uasage or inadequate application. There is no proper pratice guideline for children in China or over the world. Blood Purification Specialist Committee of Pediatric Association in Chinese Medical Doctor Association called experts together to make it out. With 2 years' efforts,they finally got the goal. Through paper review,mutiple center researches and numberless dis-cussion,experts finally establish plasma exchange(PE)guideline of 9 different diseases for children including autoi-mmune hemolytic anemia,anti - neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)associated vasculitis,liver failure,hemolytic uremic syndrome,hemophagocytic syndrome,severe systemic lupus erythematosus,Gillain - Barre syndrome,acute di-sseminated encephalomyelitis and myasthenia gravis. This guideline provides the basement to establish a better one. What's important is that PE is not the first treatment for certain disease,we should take the indication into consideration seriously.
