Abstract:
Oxygen therapy is the most common first aid technique in the management of critically ill children. Factors that influence the appropriate choice of oxygen delivery include clinical characteristics of the patient,the dose of oxygen required and how well the patient tolerates the device.This article reviews the indications and procedure for the use of oxygen therapy and its modes of delivery.Oxygen should be humidified and heated whenever possible.The effec-tiveness of oxygen delivery should be monitored with pulse oximetry to avoid high or low blood oxygen levels and prevent complications.
