Therapeutic effect of atorvastatin combined aspirin on patients with carotid artery stenosis

Abstract:
Objective:To explore therapeutic effect of atorvastatin combined aspirin on patients with carotid artery stenosis(CAS).Methods:A total of 100 CAS patients treated in our hospital were selected.They were randomly and equally divided into aspirin group and combined treatment group(received aspirin combined atorvastatin),a therapeutic course was three month for both groups.Middle cerebral artery(MCA)blood flow velocity of ipsilateral brain,blood flow resistance index(RI),carotid intima-media thickness(IMT),blood lipid levels and percentage of liver function injury after intervention were compared between two groups.Results:Compared with aspirin group after three months,there were significant rise in peak systolic velocity[(196.5 ± 11.9)cm/s vs.(301.2 ± 21.9) cm/s]and end-diastolic peak velocity[(79.9 ± 7.0)cm/s vs.(142.1 ± 12.8)cm/s]of MCA,and significant reduc-tions in RI[(2.4 ± 0.3)vs.(1.8 ± 0.2)],left common carotid artery(CCA)IMT[(1.81 ± 0.32)mm vs.(1.20 ± 0.09)mm],left internal carotid artery[(2.02 ± 0.42)mm vs.(1.30 ± 0.20)mm],right CCA IMT[(1.92 ±0.30)mm vs.(1.23 ± 0.12)mm]and right internal carotid artery IMT[(1.85 ± 0.40)mm vs.(1.35 ± 0.13) mm]in combined treatment group,P=0.001 all;compared with before intervention,there were significant reduc-tions in levels of total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)in both groups after intervention,and those of combined treatment group were significantly lower than those of aspirin group,P=0.001 all.There was no significant difference in percentage of liver function injury between two groups, P>0.05. Conclusion:Atorvastatin combined aspirin can significantly improve cerebrovascular blood flow,reduce IMT of important carotid vessels and blood lipid levels without increasing percentage of liver function injury during treatment in CAS patients.
