A meta-analysis of the effect of periodontal instrumentation in combination with triple therapy on the eradication of gastric Helicobacter pylori

Abstract:
Objective To systematically assess the clearance rates of periodontal instrumentation in combination with triple therapy and triple therapy alone for patients with gastric Helicobacter pylori(HP) infection.Methods PubMed,EMbase,Medline,CNKI,SinoMed and Wan Fang databases were searched to collect controlled clinical trials,conducted between March 1997 and March 2017,on periodontal therapy combined with triple therapy or triple therapy alone for patients with gastric HP infection.Two reviewers independently screened the literature,extracted data,and assessed the risk of bias of included studies.Then meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software.Results Eight studies involving 777 patients were included.The results of the metaanalysis showed that clearance rates of HP were 52.1％ for triple therapy alone and 81.1％ for periodontal therapy combined with triple therapy.The difference was statisticatly significant (OR =4.08,95％CI:2.94～ 5.67,P＜0.001).Conclusions Currently available evidence suggests that,compared with triple therapy alone,periodontal therapy in combination with triple therapy produces higher rates of gastric HP eradication.
