BACKGROUND
A valve leaflet is composed of collagen, elastin. and glycos>glycans. I hese are the main components for the three principal layersof the the fibrosa or arteriosa. the spongiosa, and the ventricularis.
The ventricular side of each aortic valve cusp contaastin-rich fibers aligned in a radial direction, perpendicular to the leaflet tirgin. Elastin is mechanically coupled to collagen.
