Abstract:
Objective: To revise the Chinese version of Attitudes toward Life and Death Scale for College Students. Methods: The Chinese version of attitudes toward life and death was formed by the cultural adaptation of the scale assessed by college students (N= 127). Then reliability, validity and results of assessment were obtained by questionnaires (N=400) and individual interviews (N= 13 ). Results: With 50 items included in the Chinese version, the internal consistency among sub-scales was 0.43 to 0.88; the correlation of total scores in sub-scales with that in questionnaires was 0.39 to 0.81; and the correlation of results in questionnaires with that in interviews was 0.70 to 0.86, all of which were statistically significant. Chinese college students scored higher significantly in the factor of natural law and in the sub-scales of perceptivity and death experiencing; female students scored higher than male students in optimistic attitudes to death, metempsychosis and negative worldviews. Conclusion: The Chinese version of attitudes toward life and death for college students has sound psychometric properties for Chinese college students.
