THE USE OF CARBON FIBER FOR REPAIRING LIGAMENT INJURY AND ACHILLES TENDON RUPTURE DURING SPORTS (10 CASES REPORTED)

Abstract:
Since 1982, 10 consecutive patients, 5 males and 5 females, in the age range from 17 to 38 hadsurgical treatment for thier injuries of ligaments or tendons by the home made carbon fibre for re-pair. The causes of injury are as follows: foot ball match in 3 cases; bike match in 4 cases; highjump match in 1 case; basket ball match in 2 cases. Ligament injury of knee are as follows: Lateral collateral ligament in 2 cases, medial collateralligament in 4 cases, anterior crucial ligament associated with medial collateral ligament in 1 case andanterior crucial ligament associated with lateral collateral ligament in 1 case and Achilles tendon rup-ture in 2 cases. Severity of injury: According to clinical examination (abduction stress test and drawer test), X-ray film, operation finding and arthroscopy. Partial rupture in 1 case and complete rupture in 9 ca-ses. Duration between injury and operation: shortest, 28 days; longest, 6 months. Results: One of the ten cases had foreign body reaction and function of knee joint was 90?offlexion and 180?of extension 6 months after operation. Function of the other 9 cases was approxi-matly normal 3 to 6 months after operation. The rate of excellent and good results were 90% andpoor was 10%.
