Abstract:
It is suggested that the variation of decrease of HR during the recovery period of step-test can be illustrated by its functional equation y=1-e~(t/?) and the cardiacvascular function can be evaluated by ? value [y: recovery rate of HR; t: time (minute); ?: constant of time (minute)]. Since ? is the dynamic description but not the average HR, this method of evaluation may be more scientific than the traditional method (Physical Efficiency Index). The lower the ? value, the quicker the HR recovered, which means a better cardiac-vascular function. In view of this fact that the differences of body weight and height from person to person would make their load different in the test, the ? value should be modified by W-H revision index in order to avoid this deviation. The W-H revision index has been illustrated in a diagram which is easy to refer to.In order to make this step-test more adaptable to adolescents, 242 subjects (age 12-15 yr) have been tested. Two heights were used in the test: 35 cm for 12 yr and 40 cm for 13-15 yr, the step rate was 30 times per minute and the exercise continued for 3 minutes. This exercise was well performed in all subjects under a given load.
