Abstract:
5 cases of superior vena caval obstruction were treated with 6 persontimes of bypass shunt or superior vena caval reconstruction operation with great saphenous vein, blood vessel prostheses and gluta-ldehyde treated newborn umbilical vein. The latter was proved to be easy to obtain, simple in preparation, with uniform diameter, valveless and easy in suturing. Great saphenous vein was the first choise when alleviation patient's suffering without-thoracotomy was the aim. Blood vessel prostheses were not suitable to replace superior vena. The surgical indication for superior vena caval obstruction were when the obstruction was located in azygos vein or above; less collateral circulation; when left and right innominate veins were patent, and those with marked cerebral and respiratory distress,but could withstand thoracotomy.
