Abstract:
[Objective]To investigate the methods of prevention and surgical treatment of delayed infection after posterior lumbar spinal instrumentation.[Method]Five cases of delayed infection after posterior lumbar spinal instrumentation were analysed retrospectively. The clinical results and the methods of debridement were studied.Postoperative periodical follow-up was performed to observe the evidence of recurrence of infection. The effects of lumbar spinal fusion was evaluated by X-ray plate.[Result]No wound healing problem and nerve injury were found. All patients were periodically followed-up for an average 35 months(6~52 months),the evidence of recurrence of infection was not found. The effects of lumbar spinal fusion was not impaired.[Conclusion]The infection after posterior lumbar spinal instrumentation is one of the most severe postoperative complications. The risk factors of infection should be carefully evaluated before operation and the methods of infection preventing should be implemented strictly.Early diagnosis and active debridement could lead to good results.
