Abstract:
Two hundred and thirty-two normal subjects who ranged in age from 11 to 88 years and 121 patients were measured the serum immunoreactive parathyroid hormone (iPTH) by a radioimmunoassay. Results indicate the serum iPTH changes with age and sex in normal subjects. Because of menopause, there were significant increase in women than in men from age of 40 to 50 years. There was an important value in diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism, especially in localization of ectopic parathyroidism. Serum iPTH level was an objective standard to evaluate chronic renal insuficiency, and was also a reference to evaluate pathogenesis of osteoporosis.
